Abstract

This study aims to formulate strategies for improving the quality of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) through the application of analog rice processing technology from tubers as a step towards food diversification and local economic development. Villages possess abundant natural resources, especially various types of tubers such as cassava and porang, but their utilization remains limited. The lack of knowledge and skills in processing local food resources has been a barrier to increasing the added value of these products. Analog rice processing technology using tubers can be a solution to enhance food diversification and create healthy and nutritionally valuable alternative products. The method used in this study includes field surveys to identify local potential, training and technical assistance in analog rice processing for BUMDes managers, and evaluation of the impact of the technology's implementation. The results show that the application of this technology successfully improved the quality and variety of products produced by BUMDes, while also opening new market opportunities for local analog rice products. Moreover, the program succeeded in enhancing the skills and knowledge of the community, particularly in managing local resources sustainably. This strategy is expected to serve as a model for other BUMDes to optimize local potential and improve the welfare of rural communities.

Abstract

Geographically, Asemgede Village, Ngusikan Subdistrict, Jombang Regency, is located at the northernmost part of Jombang, directly bordering Lamongan Regency. Asemgede is a relatively new subdistrict, formed by the division of Kudu Subdistrict, based on Jombang Regency Regulation No. 15 of 2000. The village consists of one hamlet, two RW, and four RT. It is situated in a forested area between Jombang and Lamongan. The majority of its residents are farmers, pandan mat weavers, and charcoal artisans. The farmers in Asemgede Village apply a seasonal planting pattern, cultivating rice during the first planting season (October to March) and corn and tobacco in the second season (March to August). This highlights the village's potential for natural resource development, including the use of corn waste as a raw material for producing bio-briquettes or other products. With its abundant natural resources, Asemgede Village has the opportunity to develop organic material processing activities into economically valuable products. One example is the production of dishwashing soap made from pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius), which contain natural compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, polyphenols, and saponins, the latter acting as a natural biosurfactant. Saponins in pandan leaves can produce effective foam for cleaning and possess antibacterial properties. Compared to commercial dishwashing soap, pandan-leaf-based soap offers significant advantages, particularly the use of natural ingredients that are safer for skin health, free of harmful chemicals like triethanolamine, triclosan, preservatives, parabens, and SLS surfactants. This community development initiative seeks to empower Asemgede residents by providing training in making dishwashing soap from pandan leaves. The training aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of the village community in processing organic materials into valuable products, thereby improving their economic welfare. The initiative also focuses on increasing women's participation, especially members of the village's Family Welfare Movement (PKK), enabling them to contribute to the community's economic development and fostering innovation

Abstract

This community service was carried out to address water and environmental management issues in Kromong Village, Ngusikan District, Jombang Regency, which often faces flooding during the rainy season and drought in the dry season. This issue is exacerbated by the low level of public awareness regarding organic waste management and degradation of soil quality. The main focus of this service is to introduce biopori as a solution to increase water absorption, reduce puddles, and improve soil quality through organic waste management. The aim of this activity is to provide understanding to the community about the importance of the biopori technique and how its application can help overcome environmental problems faced by villages. The approach used is the service learning (SL) method, where the community is actively involved in socialization and training on the practice of making biopores. This research strategy includes several steps, such as problem identification, outreach, training, and monitoring the program's impact on the environment. The results of the service show success in increasing rainwater absorption, reducing the risk of flooding, and improving soil fertility through the decomposition of organic waste. In addition, there has been an increase in public awareness regarding the importance of sustainable environmental management. This program has also succeeded in reducing the amount of organic waste produced by households, while providing long-term benefits for groundwater security in the village. With positive results, it is hoped that this program can be replicated in other regions that face similar issues.

Abstract

Flooding due to stagnant water accumulation often occurs when rainfall exceeds the drainage system's capacity or when the soil cannot absorb water quickly enough. One effective solution to address this issue is to enhance the soil's infiltration capacity through biopore technology. By installing biopores, communities can significantly reduce surface water accumulation, especially after heavy rains. This community service initiative aims to raise awareness and promote active involvement in environmental care among residents. Additionally, the program focuses on educating the community about the benefits and techniques for creating biopore infiltration holes through social engagement. The approach taken is based on Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), which prioritizes identifying and utilizing local community assets. The program consists of four main stages: familiarization, asset identification, planning, and implementation. These stages are structured to improve community self-sufficiency and well-being sustainably, engaging the villagers of Made as partners in the process. Overall, the initiative has led to positive outcomes regarding disaster preparedness and community welfare. It has successfully increased understanding of the importance of managing natural resources and the advantages of biopores. The active participation of community members in constructing biopores has resulted in a greater number of infiltration holes in residential areas and agricultural lands. To maintain the program’s sustainability, ongoing monitoring of the biopores and the availability of organic materials is crucial. Furthermore, replicating this initiative in other villages with similar challenges can broaden its positive effects on disaster readiness and community welfare.

Abstract

Organic soil conditioners are important to be given to the land to maintain good soil quality. In oil palm cultivation, many farmers still only apply fertilization using inorganic fertilizers without being balanced with the use of organic materials. The purpose of this community service is to provide insight into the importance of using organic soil conditioners in oil palm cultivation and as an effective means of communication between academics and the community directly in disseminating knowledge and technology. The community service method is carried out in three stages, namely: 1). Preparation stage by preparing the necessary tools and coordinating with the local village government and the Bangun Bersama farmer group; 2) The implementation stage of the activity is carried out with lectures and discussions; 3) Evaluation stage by providing feedback in the form of filling out a questionnaire form by participants. The results of this community service can be said to have gone well and participants asked that in the coming years this kind of community service activity be carried out in the Bangun Bersama farmer group. Community service participants felt an extraordinary impact with the increase in knowledge about organic soil conditioners, thereby increasing literacy for farmers.
