Abstract

Literary works have a big role in shaping and changing people's thoughts, feelings, attitudes, opinions, and behaviors about women. This is inseparable from the ideology of feminism of literary works, one of which is in the form of short stories (short stories) based on a gender perspective. This paper aims to describe Sara Mills feminist ideology using a procedure for simultaneous analysis of critical discourse. Based on this goal, the author encourages the author to study in a literature study entitled " Representation of Abortion Women in Short Stories Jeritan dalam Botol by Intan Paramaditha: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Sara Mills' Perspective". This type and approach of research is a qualitative-descriptive method with a method of critical discourse analysis developed by Sara Mills, which is also often referred to as critical discourse analysis with a 'feminist' perspective. The results of the writing show the perspective in which women are beings who have the right to their bodies absolutely because they are the ones who best understand and understand their own circumstances. The act of Abortion is also as a self-existence against patriarchy even though the act of abortion is considered by the wider community as an act of error, in this short story the author tries to narrate the acceptable reasons for the act of abortion both from the abortionist and those that help the abortion process (abortion shaman). The problem of abortion is not only death but a complexity in life choices.

Abstract

Many Indonesian learners continue to struggle with learning English as a foreign language (EFL) and frequently produce errors in grammatical aspects when speaking English spontaneously. This may be influenced by several factors. Hence, this research reports on a study aimed at investigating and examining the errors produced by Indonesian learners in their oral presentations and the sources of the errors. In conducting this study, the error analysis procedures and a descriptive qualitative study were used. The data were collected from sixteen college students’ oral presentations of the non-English department. To gather the data, the students’ presentations were video-typed and the utterances were transcribed. In analysing the data, a theory of error classification proposed by Dulay et al. (1982) namely a surface strategy taxonomy was employed. The findings reveal that four types of errors based on the surface strategy taxonomy namely omission, addition, misformation, and misordering errors are found in the students’ productions in their oral presentation. The frequent errors made by the learners are omission, followed by misformation, addition, and misordering. Meanwhile, two major causes driving learners to make numerous mistakes are intra-lingual and inter-lingual interference. However, from both factors, the largest cause is intra-lingual interference. Thus, the students’ L1 interference affects their mastery of the target language. Finally, this study is expected to contribute to the improvement of EFL teaching and learning.

Abstract

This research was motivated by observations of students' English language skills. Seeing the phenomenon of students' abilities, it is felt necessary to be more intensive in improving their mastery apart from the learning material provided. This encourages educators to apply English audio-visual media to train students to get used to hearing English pronunciation. The aim of this research is to determine the importance of improving vocabulary mastery and English writing using audio-visual media. The approach used in this research is qualitative with descriptive analysis. The sample in this research was a literature review of previous research on published books, newspapers and scientific articles. Samples were taken in the form of articles about English vocabulary and writing using audio-visual media. Data collection techniques use test techniques to strengthen the influence of sampling and vocabulary. The results of the analysis indicate that efforts to increase vocabulary are followed by improving writing skills first. Therefore, the more vocabulary a student has from audio-visual media, the better he or she will be at writing English text content

Abstract

One of the efforts to develop ecological literacy skills can be done through formal education. The system owned by formal education, namely schools, is able to induce components that support ecological literacy skills, including knowledge, skills, attitudes and actions. The purpose of this study was to find out what eco-literacy content is in language learning and its impacts on students' pro-environmental habit. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Kota Ternate. The method used in this research is content analysis on textbooks and students interview to obtain information and practical experience of students. Based on the results of data analysis, in class VII and IX, there is one unit each in the textbook which contains literacy ecology with the respective themes 'Let's Clean Up' and 'Let's Live Healthy' (Let’s live a healthy life). For the first theme, the significant impact that is visible and integrated in daily activities at school is that students always maintain cleanliness by sweeping and cleaning before starting lessons, throwing garbage in its place, always cleaning the black-board after use, wearing clean and tidy uniforms when going to school. Interview data also showed that students always helped their parents to clean the house on Sundays, cut thick branches, clean gutters, clean bedrooms, etc. The second theme is about maintaining a healthy life, there are some students who bring food from home because it is cleaner and safer, students regularly cut their nails, cut their hair (for boys), bathe with soap, brush their teeth and wear perfume to school. Based on the analysis and interview data above, it can be concluded that students know, understand, and practice the habit of maintaining cleanliness and healthy living practices in daily life at school and at home, meaning that eco-literacy learning has a positive impact on students' understanding of environmental insights both at school and at home.
