Abstract

Locus of control (LoC) is a concept in psychology that refers to individuals' perceptions of the extent to which they believe they have control or influence over events occurring in their lives. One influencing factor on LoC is gender. Some previous literature has also demonstrated that LoC has an impact on the use of coping stress strategies. The aim of this study is to compare LoC between male and female students (santri) and to investigate its influence on coping. A cross-sectional online survey design was employed to collect data on LoC and coping. A total of 94 santri from a boarding school in Pekanbaru City participated by completing coping and Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control (I-E Scale) research scales. The research findings confirm that there is a significant difference in locus of control between male and female santri, as well as a significant influence on the coping strategies they employ. The findings of this research have important implications for prevention and alleviation programs for santri coping with stress. The provision of guidance and counseling services for all santri is crucial. Additionally, the involvement of parents and peers is deemed effective in shaping resilient santri when facing psychological pressure.

Abstract

Aggressive behavior in adolescents has become a serious problem in Indonesia, with data showing a significant increase in recent years. This study aims to reveal the picture of aggressive behavior of students in Junior High Schools (SMP) in Sindue District. Using a descriptive quantitative method, this study involved 524 eighth grade students from five SMPs selected through proportional random sampling. Data collection was conducted using a Likert scale instrument with 22 items, supported by interviews and documentation. The results showed that the scores of students' aggressive behavior were in the high category in all schools studied. The forms of aggressive behavior identified included verbal aggression (insulting, swearing), physical aggression (hitting, fighting), and destruction of school facilities. This study found five main characteristics of aggressive behavior: attacking behavior, unwanted behavior by the target, violation of social norms, hostility, and learned/imitated behavior. In conclusion, the high level of aggressive behavior among junior high school students requires immediate intervention through programs such as counseling, anger management, and social skills training, as well as active involvement from schools, parents, and mental health professionals.

So the purpose of writing this article is to find out what problems are often experienced by career women who have dual roles as women who work outside the home and as housewives and how to overcome them using feminist counseling. The method in this research uses library research by collecting various articles related to the topic discussed. The research results show that by dividing and organizing good time management by women who have multiple roles, they can overcome the problems they experience and by providing guidance and counseling services, counselors can help through feminist counseling. Feminist counseling services help career women to have confidence in their abilities in carrying out their duties as career women and housewives. Future researchers are advised to conduct more in-depth case studies and use more complex methods.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of culture and ethics in group counseling using Existential Therapy, utilizing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to evaluate 50 key articles. Findings reveal that participants' cultural backgrounds and the ethical norms held by both participants and therapists significantly affect the dynamics and outcomes of therapy. Culture shapes how participants interpret existential issues, while ethics ensure the integrity of the therapeutic process. The results suggest that a more culturally and ethically sensitive counseling approach can enhance the quality and effectiveness of group existential therapy. This research underscores the need for more contextual ethical guidelines and increased cultural awareness among counseling professionals to provide more inclusive and effective services.

Abstract

Smoking behavior is one of the negative behaviors exhibited by high school students, with previous studies indicating a high prevalence of this behavior. This study aims to analyze the impact of smoking behavior among students and to identify the efforts made by the school to address student smoking. The researcher employed a qualitative case study approach, involving nine informants: seven students, one homeroom teacher, and one deputy head of student affairs. The research was conducted at one of the Tarbiyah Islamiyah Madrasah in a rural area. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis technique used was the Miles & Huberman interactive model, including a process for checking data validity. The research findings are as follows: (1) The impact of smoking behavior on students is significant in terms of health, with frequent coughing, fatigue, drowsiness during lessons, headaches, sore throats, hoarseness, frequent nausea, and weight loss reported. Academically, smoking behavior leads to decreased concentration and lower academic achievement. (2) Efforts to address this behavior include collaboration between the homeroom teacher and the deputy head of student affairs, who work together to prevent students from leaving the school premises and impose sanctions on smoking students, such as fines, memorization of Qur’an verses, and warning points. If a student accumulates 100 points, they are expelled. This finding underscores the importance of preventive counseling services in schools. Counselors can design a smoking behavior prevention program that includes regular counseling on the negative impacts of smoking on health, academics, and social life.
