Abstract

The absence of a standardized operational-level practical test instrument for Technology Nautical Study Program cadets has led to inconsistencies in evaluating critical competencies, ultimately affecting the quality of training and readiness in maritime operations. This community service activity was initiated to address this gap by identifying the root causes behind the lack of implementation, such as inadequate alignment between practical assessments and core competencies, and by highlighting the consequential impact on vocational education quality. Using a qualitative approach through lectures, training sessions, and Participatory Action Research (PAR), this study involved lecturers and cadets from AMSS and Poltekpel Barombong. The intervention focused on socializing and implementing a competency-based assessment instrument that, based on preliminary indicators and observational data, demonstrated improvements in measuring participant skills with increased objectivity, validity, and reliability. However, limitations remain in that the instrument currently addresses only operational-level competencies and does not fully encompass all practical scenarios aligned with core competencies. The findings underscore the need for further research to expand and refine assessment tools, particularly at the management level, thereby contributing to enhanced vocational training and competency-based education in the nautical field.

Abstract

The transformation toward digital marketing has become a critical challenge for rural micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the era of technological disruption, yet limited knowledge and infrastructure often hinder adaptation. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of product photography mentoring using smartphones as an innovative and affordable solution for developing visual marketing among MSMEs in Mekar Jaya Village. The community service program adopted a Community Development approach and participatory training methods involving 50 local MSME actors. Implementation was conducted in three stages: (1) preparation and needs analysis, (2) intensive training and hands-on practice, and (3) mixed-method evaluation and monitoring. Results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ skills, with a 77% average increase based on pre- and post-test evaluations. Product photo quality improved across lighting (50%), composition (50%), focus (35%), and background (45%). Economically, 40% of participants secured new customers, achieving an average monthly revenue increase of 32% one month post-program. The program’s success validated the Low-Cost High-Impact Visual Marketing model, which leverages community-owned technological resources, offering a cost-effective empowerment strategy compared to expensive equipment investments or professional outsourcing.

Abstract

One of the instruments that is often not available for cell observation skills in high schools in Bekasi City is a microscope. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out community service activities (CSA) in the form of training in the use and maintenance of microscopes, making and observing cell slides, and cell observation documentation techniques for high school students in Bekasi City. This CSA method, based on Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) and Participatory Action Research (PAR), involves planning integrated CSA programs offered to several high schools in Bekasi City. The implementation stage was carried out in 6 meetings (each meeting started from 08.00-16.00) by providing a pre-test, delivering materials, conducting a post-test, practicing microscope use, making and observing cell slides, and documenting cell slide techniques. The evaluation stage was carried out by processing qualitative and quantitative data. The results of this CSA include 30 students: 19 from Al-Muhtadin High School and 11 from Annida Al-Islamy, MA. Statistical analysis using paired t-tests produced a sig value. 0.01<0.05 or CS activities can significantly increase the average value of knowledge about microscopes, while the average value of the skills test is 76.92. This CSA concludes that providing microscope materials and training as a CS activity package can enhance the knowledge and skills of 19 Al-Muhtadin High School students and 11 Annida Al-Islamy MA students in observing cells using a light microscope.

Abstract

Indonesia's religiously plural districts have periodically experienced tensions rooted in administrative procedures and misunderstandings in interfaith relations. This service activity aimed to identify forms of religious attitudes and communication patterns in Aceh Tengah and Aceh Singkil communities, as well as surface participatory strategies for sustaining social harmony. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) cycle, the program included Training of Trainers (ToT), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), participatory mapping, community education, and iterative monitoring and evaluation conducted with teachers, students, religious leaders, FKUB members, and local officials. The service showed that Aceh Tengah exhibited strong tolerance supported by inclusive Gayo cultural norms, open deliberative communication, and proactive engagement between the government and the FKUB. Aceh Singkil faced recurrent challenges related to worship-permit arrangements, yet communities maintained mutual respect and associative ties that helped de-escalate issues. The program empowered local stakeholders to act as agents of tolerance and clarified bottom-up feedback channels within existing top-down procedures, generating practical improvements and guidance for replication. In conclusion, collaborative, bottom-up communication institutionalized through government, interfaith forums, and community partnerships was essential to manage diversity and sustain harmony; the PAR-based approach provided a practical model and transferable lessons for similar plural settings across Indonesia.

Abstract

Jamu is one of Indonesia's traditional medicines that is widely consumed by the public. According to a national survey in 2023, nearly 50% of Indonesians use jamu for treatment or maintaining their health. Public interest in jamu has been increasing in recent years, creating more opportunities to generate new jobs. However, a major challenge is the lack of knowledge among entrepreneurs and the public about processing raw materials for jamu and developing innovative products. The purpose of this community service program is to enhance knowledge and skills in processing raw materials into innovative jamu products with high market value. The program's partners are the members of RT 15/RW 5, Tegalrejo District, Yogyakarta. A total of 52 members of RT 15/RW 5 Tegalrejo participated in this activity. The method used in this community service program is service learning, involving the UII pharmacy department and the community on the topic of traditional medicine production, including providing basic information about traditional medicine to the community and conducting preliminary tests to assess initial understanding.. It is followed by a training on making jamu products, such as instant ginger powder, beras kencur drinks, and butterfly pea flower drinks. The activity concludes with a post-test. The results show that this community service program improves understanding of traditional medicine and enhances the community's skills in producing marketable traditional medicine products, which can serve as business ideas in the traditional medicine sector.

Abstract

The development of the halal industry globally, including in Indonesia, shows a significant trend. It is driven by growing public awareness of the importance of using sharia-compliant products. The role of Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) is crucial in supporting and expanding the development of this sector, as their existence is a major driver of economic growth, although they still face various obstacles, particularly related to the understanding and implementation of halal certification. This Community Service (PKM) is designed to strengthen UMKM knowledge and skills in managing halal-based businesses through training and technical assistance. Activities carried out included outreach, training, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), technical guidance, and monitoring of 30 food and beverage MSMEs who are members of the Asosiasi Pengusaha Makanan dan Minuman Indonesia (ASPAMI). The activity results showed a significant increase in the understanding and implementation of halal certification, as evidenced by the Wilcoxon test between pretest and posttest scores. Furthermore, implementing this program has significantly contributed to strengthening the position of UMKM, enabling them to survive and compete locally and in increasingly fierce global competition. This program provides education on mapping the halal raw material supply chain and Halal marketing strategies. The sustainability of this program is expected to encourage more UMKM to adopt halal principles and strengthen the national halal ecosystem.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to support the improvement of mathematics learning quality at MTsN 4 Cirebon by assisting teachers in developing innovative teaching aids. The urgency of this program lies in the abstract nature of spherical geometry, which makes it difficult for students to grasp elements such as radius, diameter, center point, surface area, and volume when explained only verbally. At the same time, teachers are not yet accustomed to independently creating or using teaching aids. The specific goal of this activity was to introduce and guide the use of the “Bolundarsi” teaching aid as a visual and manipulative medium for learning spheres. The method employed was Participatory Action Research (PAR) through socialization, workshops, and classroom mentoring, with data collected via interviews, questionnaires, and observations. The results showed improved teacher skills, high participation, and enhanced student understanding and engagement. Teachers and students responded positively, indicating that Bolundarsi makes learning more interactive and supports a more concrete understanding of spherical concepts.

Abstract

Digital marketing is an essential strategy for microenterprises to expand market share and increase sales. To support micro enterprises in Segoro Tambak Village, Sedati Subdistrict, Sidoarjo Regency, a community engagement program was implemented through the national grant. The program involved preliminary observations, digital marketing workshops, interviews, hands-on training, mentoring, and follow-up activities. As part of the intervention, Instagram and TikTok accounts were created for 20 micro enterprises, enabling them to showcase their products and reach broader audiences. Pre- and post-program assessments indicated significant improvements: over 73% of participants reported increased confidence in using social media, while 75% successfully uploaded promotional content independently after mentoring. Two key outcomes emerged from the engagement: (1) the establishment of social media accounts for both the village group and individual micro firms, and (2) enhanced knowledge and digital literacy among participants, particularly those previously unfamiliar with smartphone-based marketing. These results demonstrate how structured community-based interventions can effectively bridge the digital divide, empower local entrepreneurs, and increase product visibility and sales. Beyond immediate benefits, this initiative contributes to the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of micro enterprises in adapting to the rapidly evolving digital economy.

Abstract

Sucolor Village possesses significant local economic potential, particularly in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) sector. However, the utilization of digital technology for product marketing remains limited, resulting in restricted market access and low competitiveness of local products. This activity aims to optimize digital marketing strategies based on local community development to support UMKM sustainability and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Sucolor Village. The method employed in this initiative is the ADDIE training model, which includes digital marketing training, branding optimization, and marketing strategies based on social media and e-commerce. This activity involves empowering the local community, particularly women and youth groups, to enhance digital skills and product innovation. As a result of this program, participants demonstrated significant improvement in digital marketing competence, with average post-training scores increasing from 1.7-2.3 to 3.9-4.3 across key indicators such as branding, content creation, and marketplace management. A digital catalog website was successfully developed, and local UMKM began actively promoting their products online. Additionally, the introduction of coffee-themed batik products reinforced local identity and broadened the creative economy. Overall, this community service proved to be an effective way to enhance digital literacy, expand market reach, and increase the economic resilience of rural entrepreneurs.
