Abstract

Angels are supernatural creatures created by Allah with various tasks and characteristics given to them. Even though angels are invisible to human senses, the Qur'an proves that the existence and information of angels definitely exists. This research uses the key term angels in the Koran using semantic concepts. The data obtained was by collecting verses that contain the word angel. The primary source was obtained from Toshihiko's book "The Relationship between God and Man". Meanwhile, secondary sources were obtained from journals, theses and websites. The method used is Toshihiko Izutsu's semantic method. Analysis of the words studied uses several stages, including finding basic meaning, relational meaning, synchronic and diachronic aspects. This research aims to find out the word angel in the Koran using Toshihiko Izutsu's semantic perspective. The word angel is mentioned in the Koran 83 times. The word angel has the basic meaning of messenger. Syntagmatically, the word angel includes four meanings, namely: those who obey God's commands and always exalt, those who confirm humans in goodness, those who bring revelation and information from God including happy news for Maryam, and those who take lives. Paradigmatically, the word angel has a synonymous relationship with the words al-Ruh and Harut Marut. Meanwhile, the relationship of anonymity is established with the words Jinn, Devil, and Satan. In the pre-Qur'anic period, the word angel was conceived by pre-Islamic Arabs as well as by the beliefs of people before the revelation of the Koran as very beautiful and attractive creatures. In the Qur'anic period, angels had various glories and nobility but could not be made God or children of God. In the post-Qur'anic era the meaning of angels is seen even more broadly and is not limited to belief.

Abstract

In the context of family life, parents are considered a very important factor in creating and maintaining blessings for their children. The piety or righteousness of parents becomes the cause of Allah's mercy and protection not only for themselves but also for their descendants. Therefore, this article discusses the significance of parental righteousness, which has a profound impact on Allah's protection of their offspring, through the perspective of exegeses on Surah Al-Kahfi, verse 82. This article adopts a thematic tafsir approach by comparing the explanations of classical and contemporary scholars, namely Ibn Kathir and Wahbah Az-Zuhaili, on the key study of Surah Al-Kahfi, verse 82. The first part of this discussion introduces brief biographies of the two scholars, their tafsir writing systems, and the approaches to interpretation they employed. It then presents their respective interpretations before comparing the two. The findings of this research show that parental righteousness is highly relevant in safeguarding the blessings for their descendants. Both tafsirs agree that parental piety plays a key role in determining blessings, both in material aspects (such as protection of wealth) and spiritual aspects (such as divine guidance and the safety of children in this life and the hereafter).

Abstract

This verse emphasizes the importance of faith and knowledge as elements that elevate a person's status in the sight of Allah. In Islam, knowledge is not only understood as theoretical insight but must also be actualized through practices aligned with Sharia guidelines. This study employs a qualitative approach with a thematic exegesis method to analyze the relationship between knowledge, action, and etiquette in Islam, highlighting etiquette as a crucial element in the learning process. While previous studies have largely discussed Q.S. Al-Mujadilah verse 11 in the context of the virtue of seeking knowledge, this article places special emphasis on the importance of applying knowledge in daily life. The application of knowledge is deemed essential in shaping noble character, aligned with the goals of national education. Through a review of classical and contemporary exegesis literature, this article concludes that an ideal learning process must be accompanied by etiquette and righteous deeds. This aims to ensure that knowledge does not remain mere theoretical understanding but also provides tangible benefits to individuals and society. Thus, the learning process becomes more holistic, encompassing intellectual, spiritual, and moral aspects. This conclusion supports the view that the integration of knowledge, action, and etiquette is a fundamental pillar in realizing the goals of Islamic education. Such an education is expected to produce individuals who are faithful, knowledgeable, and morally upright, in accordance with Islamic teachings and the nation's noble values.

Abstract

This study explores the philosophical and scientific meanings related to Islam. Philosophy and scientification in the Islamic context are complementary in understanding reality and enhancing human knowledge. Through the integration of faith and reason, Islamic tradition has successfully developed a knowledge system grounded in moral and spiritual principles. Consequently, scientification in Islam is not merely the practical application of technology but also an effort to comprehend God's creation and elevate human dignity holistically. Ontology in the Islamic context refers to an in-depth investigation into the nature of existence and reality as they relate to Islamic teachings. Several principles of Islamic epistemology pertain to the definition of knowledge, its sources, objects, and scientific methods within Islamic epistemology. In Islam, axiology examines values or ethics, where ethics (akhlaq) serves as the ultimate goal for those pursuing knowledge itself.

Abstract

Analyze the relevance of Islamic economic ethics in the practice of buying and selling in the era of global capitalism, focusing on the study of the interpretation of verses related to buying and selling transactions in the Qur'an. This study uses a normative interpretation approach and contemporary analysis of verses that talk about buying and selling, in surah Al-Baqoroh 198, Al-Baqarah verse 275, Al-Baqoroh 282 and An-Nisa 29. In addition, this study also assesses how the principles of Islamic economics can be applied in the context of modern capitalism which often prioritizes maximum profit and individualism. The results of the study show that Islamic economic ethics that prioritize justice, transparency, and social balance are still very relevant to be applied in the current global economic system. Principles such as the prohibition of usury, gharar (uncertainty), and tyranny in buying and selling can be the basis for transactions that are fairer and do not harm certain parties. The conclusion of this study is that the application of Islamic economic ethics in the practice of buying and selling can provide alternative solutions to overcome economic inequality caused by global capitalism, as well as support the creation of more equitable and sustainable welfare for society as a whole.

Abstract

The study of faith in philosophical and scientific contexts is an attempt to understand the spiritual dimension of human beings from different perspectives. In philosophy, faith is explored through in-depth questions about the existence of God, the relationship between faith and reason, and the moral values that arise from faith. This approach encourages individuals to think about the nature of their beliefs and enforce them in everyday life. Meanwhile, the scientific approach emphasizes the empirical aspects of faith, focusing on its impact on mental health, social behavior, and religious experience. Research in psychology, sociology, and neuroscience offers insights into how faith affects the lives of individuals and groups, and how religious experiences can be explained through a scientific lens. The combination of philosophical and scientific approaches to understanding faith not only enriches discussions about faith but also provides a foundation for constructive dialogue between religion and science. By understanding faith from both perspectives, we can explore deeper and more relevant meanings, and bridge the gap between spiritual beliefs and scientific knowledge. This article aims to examine the interaction between philosophy and science related to faith, and its strengthening for individuals and society in facing the challenges of modern life. Keywords faith in the Quran and philosophy, science.

Abstract

This is a reminder for all beings, from Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the One who sent down the Qur'an to His servants. With this holy book, which is well-clarified with an explicit verse Allah SWT set forth the principals to a religion for mankind, the faith that he ensured people held and to which path they should walk on. In so many clear or muhkam verses, the Qur'an itself is bayan (explanation) and hudan (guidance). Moreover, the Qur'an is a miracle and greatest piece of literature in human history, its verses are mutasyabih (ambiguous) and they have not been explored or analyzed in depth. This research is a literature review with qualitative method when the researcher refers to various papers to obtain further understanding and registering that muhkam verses are verses whose intentions and definitions are clean and not uncertain and mutasyabih are verses whose intentions and definitions are not certain and require further tracking to search their initial meaning.

Abstract

One of the controversial topics in orientalist studies of the Qur'an is about the similarity of the Qur'an with previous books, especially the Bible. Some orientalists armed with a historical-critical approach produce diverse conclusions regarding the similarity of the Qur'an with the previous book. This study aims to describe the main thoughts of three orientalists, namely Abraham Geiger, Theodor Noldeke, and Angelika Neuwirth regarding the Qur'an through a comparative study. This research is a qualitative research that combines three consecutive methods, namely exploration, explanation, and description-analysis. The result of this study is that although the three orientalists use the same methodology, each orientalist has a different conclusion due to differences in interpretation among the three. In the historical-critical study of the Qur'an, the difference in conclusions between Geiger, Noldeke, and Neuwirth occurs because of the difference in their views of the “blind spot” that causes similarities between the Qur'an and the Bible. Geiger argues that this shows Muhammad's adoption of a unified Arab society. Noldeke sees the difference due to Muhammad's ignorance of valid information, because Muhammad only got oral information and did not refer to the Bible as a primary reference. Meanwhile, Neuwirth argues that this difference actually shows the form of interaction between the Qur'an and the Bible.
