Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen students' critical literacy through multimodal English learning supported by artificial intelligence (AI) at SMA Negeri 6 Ambon. The program was implemented through four stages: orientation and coordination, training implementation, mentoring and evaluation, and sustainability planning. Students analysed videos, posters, and social media texts before creating thematic multimodal posters, which were later enhanced using AI tools such as Gemini and Google AI Studio. Observations and participant feedback showed increased engagement during collaborative activities, with students demonstrating greater confidence in interpreting visual messages and expressing ideas across modes. Teachers noted that multimodal tasks encouraged more active participation compared to conventional learning activities. The findings indicate that integrating critical literacy, multimodality, and guided AI use can support contextual English learning and promote meaningful student involvement in local EFL classrooms.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy requires readiness not only from higher education institutions but also from secondary education units as strategic upstream partners. However, a significant literacy gap exists in coastal regions, particularly at SMA Negeri 45 Maluku Tengah. Despite the availability of digital infrastructure, the understanding among students and teachers regarding the urgency of MBKM and the Kampus Mengajar program remains critically limited. This community service aims to accelerate the understanding of this policy and to institutionalize formal partnerships. The implementation method utilized a participatory-educative approach comprising three stages: analysis of the partner’s literacy paradox, interactive socialization of career opportunities in the Society 5.0 era, and the institutionalization of cooperation (Perjanjian Kerja Sama/PKS). The results indicate a transformation in student understanding. Qualitatively, success indicators were evident in the shift of student discussion substance; moving from skepticism due to financial constraints to competency-based optimism after comprehending the Flagship scholarship schemes. This activity also successfully produced a strategic output in the form of a signed Cooperation Agreement (PKS), which serves as the legal foundation for the school to transform into a social laboratory within the Universitas Pattimura Independent MBKM ecosystem.

Abstract

The residents of Sungai Malaya Village are farmers. One of the agricultural commodities cultivated by the local community is taro. Lack of knowledge and skills causes people to consume taro only as fried or boiled processed products. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out community empowerment activities for farmers, especially women farmers through training in diversified taro processing as an effort to improve skills while increasing the economic value of taro. The purpose of the activity is to increase the economic value of taro through education and practice of innovative diversification of processed tubers and taro flour for women farmers in Sungai Malaya Village. The methods used in this community service are community education and the ABCD (Asset Based Community Development) method, which includes the preparation, implementation and evaluation stages. The ABCD method was chosen because of the assets owned, namely natural resource assets (taro) and human resource sets (the spirit of wanting to change). The results of the service show that the taro processed products taught to partners are taro chips, taro onde-onde, taro sponge cake, and taro brownies. This activity can run smoothly because of the full support of the activity partners. Based on these results, it can be concluded that this activity can increase partners' knowledge and skills regarding innovative diversification of taro tuber processing.

Abstract

One effective learning model for problem-solving is the research-based learning (RBL) model. The RBL model emphasizes active student participation in the research process and enables students to conduct organized investigations to address real-world problems. Pattimura University Laboratory School is a school that organizes learning with a primary focus on research. Based on observations and interviews with the principal and teachers at Pattimura University Laboratory School, it was found that most teachers do not clearly understand RBL, resulting in teachers having difficulty designing and integrating research activities into learning materials. Therefore, strengthening and training on research-based learning is necessary. One form of intervention that can be done to address this problem is to hold a workshop on developing research-based learning teaching materials. The target of this community service activity is elementary and junior high school teachers at Pattimura University Laboratory School. The implementation of this community service activity uses a participatory approach consisting of five main stages: preparation, material delivery, demonstration, presentation, evaluation, and follow-up. This community service activity has been very effective and successful. The overall average score was 4.39 out of 5, with a satisfaction index of 87.8%, and was categorized as very good. The workshop successfully improved teachers' conceptual understanding of PBR, built practical competency in developing research-based teaching materials, strengthened teachers' confidence in innovation, and fostered motivation to develop a research culture in schools.

Abstract

Tanjung Air Panas Hamlet, Tulehu Village, is one of the traditional tuna fisheries centers using hand line fishing gear located on the eastern coast of Ambon Island. In fishing practices, local fishers utilize conventional fish aggregating devices (FADs), which are mostly made of synthetic materials such as plastic and nylon nets. The use of these materials has the potential to contribute to marine pollution and is less supportive of sustainable marine ecosystem management. This community service activity aimed to introduce and implement environmentally friendly fish aggregating devices (biodegradable FADs) made from locally available natural materials such as bamboo, coconut leaves, and rattan. The implementation methods included socialization, training on FAD construction, technical assistance, and evaluation using a Likert-scale questionnaire to assess fishers’ level of understanding, technical skills, and attitudes toward the introduced technology. The activity involved two groups of tuna hand line fishers with a total of 25 participants who took part in the entire program. The evaluation results showed that the average scores of the indicators ranged from 4.1 to 4.8 (good to very good category). Fishers’ understanding of the concept of environmentally friendly FADs obtained an average score of 4.6, technical skills in assembling and installing FADs ranged from 4.2 to 4.3, and fishers’ willingness to shift from synthetic-material FADs to natural-material FADs obtained a score of 4.7. These results indicate a positive response from fishers toward the implementation of environmentally friendly FADs, particularly in terms of knowledge, technical skills, and ecological commitment. The application of biodegradable FADs has the potential to serve as an environmentally friendly fishing technology alternative and support sustainable tuna fisheries management in Tulehu waters.

Abstract

Maluku possesses substantial agricultural potential, particularly in peanut cultivation, which is extensively practiced in Uwen Pantai Village, East Taniwel Sub-district, West Seram Regency. Groundnut cultivation thrives due to favorable land conditions, minimal maintenance requirements, and relatively short harvest cycles of 3–4 months. The competitive market price positions peanuts as a promising commodity for enhancing community welfare. However, current peanut production and marketing practices remain predominantly traditional, operating at limited scales without adherence to market standards. This community empowerment program aims to enhance local capacity in roasted peanut processing through the introduction of modified rotating sand roaster technology. Employing a transformative learning approach, community members receive comprehensive training in technology application and market-oriented business management. The modified rotating sand roaster features innovative blunt blades positioned strategically within the sample tube to facilitate uniform heat distribution, ensuring consistent product quality with distinctive roasted flavor and aroma. The program encompasses socialization activities, participatory training, technology application, and continuous mentoring in production, packaging, and marketing. Initial implementation results demonstrate significant improvements: production capacity increased from small batches to 5–10 kg per cycle (2–3 hours), product packaging advanced from plain plastic to full-color labeled aluminum foil, and profit margins reached 84.48%. This initiative is expected to improve product quality and competitiveness, expand market access, facilitate business legalization, and ultimately contribute to post-pandemic economic recovery in Uwen Pantai Village.Abstract A maximum of 250 Indonesian words printed in italics with Cambria 10 point. Abstract

This community service program was implemented in Payakabung Village, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. In this village, the development of oil palm plantations is relatively slow because the majority of farmers still cultivate rubber and vegetables. In addition, oil palm cultivation is hampered by the need for large areas of land, a large water supply, and limited farmer knowledge regarding nurseries and irrigation technology. Therefore, this community service program was carried out with the aim of accelerating the transfer of knowledge and practical skills to farmers in Payakabung Village, especially in the adoption of simple and inexpensive irrigation technology for oil palm nurseries. The activity methods included site surveys, training, and evaluation of results involving 16 participants (village officials, farmers, and housewives). The evaluation results showed an increase in participant knowledge of 100%, pipe making skills of 87.5% and assembly/operation skills of 81.25% with 75% of achievement indicator components exceeding the target. The resulting activity outputs were perforated pipe sprinkler irrigation devices and video documentation. As a follow-up to support farmer income, this program recommends planning mini workshops on irrigation services, oil palm nursery training, and the provision of larger land areas.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) was implemented to address the problems faced by coffee farmer groups in Kamno Sari Village, Jagebob District, Merauke Regency. The area has considerable potential for coffee production; however, it has not been optimally managed due to limited knowledge, processing technology, and marketing systems. Field identification revealed three main problems: low farmer skills in coffee bean processing, production processes that remain traditional and do not meet quality standards, and limited processing facilities and infrastructure, which reduce product competitiveness. In addition, coffee marketing is still confined to the local area and has not yet maximized the use of digital technology. Based on these conditions, this PKM program aimed to disseminate appropriate and easily applicable technologies for farmers, including post-harvest handling techniques, the use of simple but effective processing equipment, and digital packaging and marketing strategies based on social media. The program was implemented using a participatory approach through training activities, equipment demonstrations, and intensive assistance to farmer groups. All members of the farmer group participated actively, and the activities were carried out smoothly according to the planned schedule. The farmers showed particularly high engagement during the simulation of appropriate technology using a coffee bean huller machine. The coffee huller machine provided to the partner group served as a practical tool for post-harvest coffee bean processing. The results of the community service activities indicate an increase in farmers’ knowledge and skills in improving coffee quality. The availability of adequate and functional production facilities also supported higher productivity and improved post-harvest outcomes for the farmer group.
