Abstract

Sweet orange extract contains high vitamin C so it has the potential to be used in making yogurt to increase the vitamin C content in the product. This study aims to reveal the effect of variations in the concentration of sweet orange extract (Citrus sinensis) on the physical properties of cow's milk yogurt. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications consisting of yogurt without additional extract (P0), the addition of sweet orange extract 3% (P1), 5% (P2), and 7% (P3). The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) with levels of 5% and 1% and continued with the Least Significant Difference Test (LSD). The parameters observed included pH, viscosity, and texture. The results showed that the addition of sweet orange extract had a significant effect on the pH value of yogurt with pH values ​​ranging from 5.20 - 4.42, but did not significantly affect (P>0.05) the viscosity value of yogurt with values ​​ranging from 1.53 - 3.30. Meanwhile, the visualization results of the yogurt texture showed a variety of textures, from thick to not thick. Thus, the best results in this study were obtained with the addition of 3% sweet orange extract.

Abstract

Bulukumba Regency holds significant potential for developing an integrated crop-livestock system through the utilization of plantation waste such as copra meal, coconut husk, cocoa pod husk, and clove leaves as alternative feed for ruminant livestock. This research employed a case study approach using qualitative methods, supported by secondary data and laboratory analysis of the nutritional content of the waste materials. The study also assessed the level of utilization by farmers and livestock keepers, as well as the challenges encountered in its application. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. The findings revealed that the use of plantation waste as animal feed remains low due to limited technical knowledge, inadequate processing technology such as fermentation, and weak institutional support and extension services. In fact, utilizing this waste could reduce feed costs by up to 40% without compromising livestock performance. This research proposes a zero-waste-based integration model consisting of several stages: mapping the potential of local waste resources, providing technical training, establishing farmer group enterprises, and conducting continuous monitoring. Regional policies and institutional support are necessary to strengthen the implementation of this model in order to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly crop-livestock system in Bulukumba.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) to ruminant livestock rations on the physical quality of fermented feed. This study was conducted at the Animal Feed Laboratory, Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Alauddin State Islamic University, Makassar from November to December. The research method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. The treatments consisted of variations in the addition of jackfruit leaves of P0 (0%), P1 (10%), P2 (15%), and P3 (20%) in the ration. The results showed that the addition of jackfruit leaves had a significant effect (P <0.05) on the physical quality of fermented feed, especially on the parameters of color, aroma and pH, while it had no significant effect (P>0.05) on texture. Fermented feed with the addition of 10% jackfruit leaves showed the best quality with characteristics of yellowish green color, fresh aroma and optimal pH. This study provides an alternative forage that can improve the quality of livestock feed.

Abstract

Adoption of rice straw fermentation technology as animal feed can improve the quality of animal feed, and have a positive impact on the production and welfare of farmers. Although research on the adoption of rice straw fermentation technology has been conducted previously, adoption based on economic factors is still limited. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the economic factors that can be the basis for grouping the adoption of rice straw fermentation technology as cattle feed. It was conducted in Gowa and Takalar districts. Based on existing data, there are about 102 farmers who have implemented straw fermentation. This number is the population for further determination of about 35 farmers as samples. There are four variables of economic factors measured, namely farmer income, fermentation costs, number of livestock ownership, and livestock prices in the local market. Data were collected through observations and interviews using questionnaires. Data were analyzed using discriminant statistics. The results showed that farmer income, number of livestock ownership, and livestock price had a positive contribution to the adoption of fermentation technology, while fermentation costs had a negative contribution and hindered the adoption process. This study concluded that the four variables of economic factors can be used as a basis for categorizing farmers into adopter and non-adopter groups of rice straw fermentation.
