Abstract

Gender is a social and cultural construct influencing roles and responsibilities across various sectors, including beef cattle farming under a profit-sharing system. This study aims to analyze gender roles in the management of beef cattle farming within a profit-sharing system in Bontocani District, Bone Regency. The research sample consisted of 36 farmers, 24 men, and 12 women, selected proportionally with a significance level of α=10%. Data collection was conducted using a cross-sectional survey method. Data analysis was performed descriptively to examine gender roles in access, control, and the utilization and management of profits. The findings indicate that men dominate access to resources (65–67%), decision-making control (61–64%), and external profit utilization (78%), while women play a more significant role in internal profit utilization (81%). The study concludes that gender roles influence the management of beef cattle farming, with men being more dominant in strategic and economic aspects. In contrast, women are more involved in profit management within the domestic sphere. Collaboration between men and women is a key factor in ensuring the sustainability of this farming business.

Abstract

In order to support the improvement of poultry performance, one key supporting factor is livestock health management. This study aims to evaluate vaccination management on Cobb strain parent stock chicken farms at PT S.I.P., Gowa Regency. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a field observation approach and interviews with related parties in the company. The data collected were analyzed based on three main parameters, namely the time, method, and dose of vaccine administration, then compared with relevant reference standards. The results of the study indicate that the vaccination program implemented at PT S.I.P. has complied with applicable regulations. Vaccination is carried out at the right time, with the appropriate administration method and dose for each type of vaccine, such as IB, Reo, Gumboro, ND-IB, ND-AI, and Fowl Pox vaccines. During the observation period, no chicken deaths were found due to disease, indicating the success of the vaccination program implemented. Evaluation of the timing, method, and dose of vaccine administration showed high compliance with scientific references and modern livestock industry practices.

Abstract

The beef cattle business in Bima Regency has a strong enough base to support the potential of livestock farming. This study aims to analyze the potential for beef cattle development in Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. The method used is a survey method. Data collection was carried out using the Judgment Sampling method. The sampling technique was based on relevant information available from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Nusa Tenggara Province, the BPS of Bima Regency, and the Livestock and Animal Health Service of Bima Regency in 2022. The variable analyzed in this study is the Beef Cattle Population. All data obtained were analyzed using three data analysis methods, including Location Quotient (LQ) analysis, Growth Analysis, and Share Analysis. Based on the analysis results, this study shows that the potential for beef cattle development in Bima Regency using the Location Quotient (LQ) formula indicates a basic sector with a result of 1.02, which means that beef cattle farming in Bima Regency can be developed. Bima Regency's growth value indicates increased productivity growth for exports, reaching 3.84% in 2021 and 13.78% in 2022. The value obtained from the calculation using the Share formula is 20.27%, which means (+), and it can be concluded that Bima Regency makes a significant contribution to exports.

Abstract

The increase in human population followed by land conversion creates its own challenges to provide sufficient feed throughout the year. It is known that cassava waste has the potential as an alternative feed to provide sustainable feed. The treatment in this research includes T1 (leaf), T2 (stem), T1 (cassava peel), and T4 (whole plant), The experimental design used in this study was a Randomized Block Design include 4 treatments and 7 replicated. The best research results on the fresh production aspect are T4 (139,02c± ton/Ha), DM production (85,1c±15,11 ton/Ha), OM production (79,01c± ton/Ha) and CP production (7,89c± 1,40 ton/Ha). Biomass production, whether it is fresh production, organic matter and also crude protein, is shown in T4 (all parts of the plant), but when viewed from the production aspect, the parts of the plant are fresh production, organic matter and also crude protein from the stem

Abstract

Diversifying rice cultivation with livestock farming in paddy fields has the potential as an alternative effort to increase Income On Farm (IOF) for rural farming households. This research aims to analyze the contribution of rice cultivation and livestock farming to IOF. The study was conducted from April to July 2024 in Gowa Regency, involving three farmer groups that consistently implemented diversification programs for 15 consecutive years. A total of 60 sampled farmer group members were observed and interviewed. The measured variables were: income from rice cultivation; income from cattle farming; income from goat farming; income from chicken farming; and income from duck farming. To determine the contribution of each independent variable (Xi) to the dependent variable, IOF (Y), multiple linear regression analysis was conducted. The coefficients in the regression model can be interpreted as measures of contribution. The analysis process included classical assumption tests, feasibility and determination tests, simultaneous influence tests, and regression coefficient tests. The results showed that income from rice cultivation (X1), income from cattle farming (X2), income from chicken farming (X4), and income from duck farming (X5) had a positive and significant contribution to IOF, while income from goat farming (X3) was not significant. The paddy field ecosystem, besides serving as an energy and material source for living organisms, also functions as a physiological environment for livestock. The implications of these findings are that diversification has the potential as an alternative to increase IOF. This diversification model needs to be preferred and pursued by rice farming households and other stakeholders.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between pelvic circumference and Body Condition Score (BCS) to litter size of sheep at PT. Sedana Peternak Sentosa, Jombang, East Java, on August 18 - November 20, 2024. The research method used 35 female sheep aged 1.5-2 years with healthy criteria and had given birth, with a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used the Spearman rank correlation test on SPSS version 25. The results showed an average pelvic circumference of 99.09 cm, BCS 4.51, and litter size 1.60. Statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between pelvic circumference and BCS to litter size (very weak correlation, p>0.05). The low determination value (R² 4.2–4.9%) indicated the dominance of other factors such as genetics, environment, stud quality, and increased parity. This finding is thought to be related to the relatively young age of the sheep (1.5–2 years) with limited birth experience.

Abstract

One way to reduce hatching failure is to set the correct angle of egg rotation during incubation in the incubator. This study is conducted to investigate the effects of a 90° egg turning angle (automatic) and 180° (manual) on fertility, hatchability, mortality, and hatch weight of Cihateup duck eggs. The research activities were conducted at the hatching laboratory of the Vocational School, IPB University, using 70 duck eggs divided into two treatments: P1 (automatic turning with a 90° rotation angle) and P2 (manual turning with a 180° rotation angle). Data analysis was performed using T-test to identify differences between two treatments. The results showed no significant differences in fertility and hatch weight between the two treatments (P>0.05). This may be the management of incubation parameters including temperature, humidity, and egg turning angle settings did not affect these two factors. However, hatchability and mortality showed significant differences (P<0,05). The manual 180° turning treatment produced higher hatchability (52,38%) and lower mortality (47,62%) compared to the automatic 90° turning with hatchability of 21,43% and mortality of 78,57%. These results indicate that a turning angle of 180° is more optimal in supporting embryo development and increasing the success rate of hatching Cihateup duck eggs. It is recommended to use a 180° egg turning angle in incubators to improve the hatching performance of Cihateup ducks.
