Abstract

Neonates are newborns up to 28 days old who undergo organ system changes as a form of adaptation. The immaturity of these organ systems makes neonates vulnerable to health problems, which can lead to death. Causes of neonatal mortality include labor complications, premature birth, congenital abnormalities, sepsis, pneumonia, diarrhea, and tetanus. These are often related to the quality of delivery services, lack of optimal postnatal care in the first days of life, and limited community knowledge about proper newborn care. The aim of this community service program is to improve the knowledge and skills of health cadres, with outcome indicators including increased antenatal visits, complete basic immunization, improved newborn care services, and the absence of neonatal deaths. Activities include education on newborn care based on the “My Baby Care” application, demonstrations of app usage and newborn care procedures, and distribution of educational tools and materials. The “My Baby Care” application facilitates newborn care practices among health cadres and mothers. It contains videos and explanations on how to bathe and care for a baby’s skin, umbilical cord care, exclusive breastfeeding, proper breastfeeding techniques, and immunization. This application supports improved maternal and child health outcomes.

Abstract

This program was conducted to enhance students’ self-confidence in speaking English at St. Bonaventura High School Sambas. Based on observations and interviews with teachers, it was found that although many students showed the potential to speak English, they have lack of confidence to express themselves due to limited speaking practice, low self-esteem, and monotonous classroom instruction. The training was delivered through interactive methods, including ice-breaking activities, speaking drills, group discussions and presentations, and video production. A total of 31 students participated in the one-day program. The results indicated a significant increase in students’ active participation and speaking confidence. Students became more comfortable expressing their ideas in English and showed increased motivation to continue learning. In addition, teachers gained new insights into implementing more communicative and interactive approaches in English class. This program had a positive impact on both students and teachers and recommended to be continued through sustainable initiatives such as English Clubs or English Day activities.

Abstract

The impact of neglecting vitamin intake, particularly vitamin C, extends beyond diminished immune function to include a reduction in metabolic processes, which can subsequently impair learning concentration and lead to declines in academic performance and nutritional status among students. Vitamin C is an essential micronutrient crucial for human health, serving as a potent antioxidant and bolstering the immune system. This study aims to provide education on various sources of vitamin C and its health benefits, as well as demonstrate vitamin C identification among students at MAN 3 Pontianak. This research is a descriptive design with a one-group pretest-posttest framework, involving 30 respondents. The findings reveal that out of 30 students (100%), the majority were aged 16 years, comprising 22 individuals (73.3%). The predominant gender among respondents was female, with 20 individuals (66.7%), while male respondents numbered 10 (33.3%). Prior to the educational intervention, student knowledge was categorized as good for 17 individuals (56.7%), adequate for 12 individuals (40%), and poor for 1 individual (3.3%). Following the educational intervention, all 30 students (100%) were classified as having good knowledge. This indicates a significant enhancement in the overall knowledge of vitamin C sources and their health benefits among students at MAN 3 Pontianak after the educational program.

In response to these challenges, the Indonesian College of Tourism Economics (STIEPARI) Semarang has established a strategic collaboration with Mahsa University Malaysia in implementing a community service program that focuses on improving student readiness through competency tests and curriculum alignment based on industry needs. This program is carried out through a series of activities, including career development seminars, professional certification training, curriculum evaluation workshops, and direct visits to various tourism industry institutions. This approach aims to strengthen students' practical skills, increase confidence, and encourage active involvement in the practice-based learning process. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in students' readiness to face the world of work, both from technical aspects and soft skills. The curriculum is evaluated and harmonized to become more relevant, flexible, and responsive to the dynamics of the global tourism industry. In addition, this program strengthens the implementation of the Independent Learning-Independent Campus (MBKM) policy by providing space for students to learn directly from the world of work and build professional networks. The implications of this activity are not only improving the quality of graduates, but also strengthening the position of higher education institutions in building sustainable international partnerships. This cross-country collaboration is a model for the development of tourism education that is adaptive, innovative, and oriented to industry needs, while supporting national competitiveness in the tourism sector.

Abstract

The availability of forage as the primary feed for ruminant livestock often fluctuates due to seasonal changes, particularly in smallholder farming systems. This situation is notably evident in the Cireban Jaya Farmers Group located in Kaduengang Village, where farmers struggle to meet forage needs during the dry season. In response to this problem, a community service program was conducted to improve farmers' knowledge and skills in forage preservation by introducing silage-making techniques. The activity involved a series of methods, including socialization to raise awareness, group discussions to facilitate knowledge exchange, and practical demonstrations on how to process forage into silage. The silage was prepared using a mixture of fresh forage, rice bran, molasses, and EM4 as a fermentation starter. Through hands-on experience, farmers learned to identify characteristics of successful silage fermentation, which include a brownish color, a distinct sour aroma, and a compact texture. The silage produced was tested on local sheep, and results indicated positive acceptance after a short adaptation period. This confirms that silage can be an effective alternative feed solution during periods of forage scarcity and nutritional stress. The outcomes of the program revealed increased farmer competence in feed processing and a more resilient approach to livestock feeding. Moreover, the initiative helped reduce the dependence on seasonal forage availability, contributing to the sustainability of small-scale livestock farming. The training also encouraged collaboration among farmers, promoted local innovation, and supported the development of feed preservation strategies tailored to community needs. Overall, the training significantly enhanced local farmers’ capacity to manage feed resources efficiently, ensuring better productivity and animal welfare, particularly in areas prone to seasonal feed shortages and unpredictable climate conditions.

Abstract

Coastal areas often face serious challenges related to environmental pollution, one of which comes from poorly managed plastic bottles used as seaweed floats. This waste not only pollutes the waters but also negatively impacts the marine ecosystem and the health of the surrounding community. This community service activity aims to increase knowledge and awareness of coastal communities, particularly housewives and elementary school students, regarding the impacts of plastic waste and the importance of environmentally friendly waste management. The outreach program was conducted over six days in Nunukan Timur Village, Nunukan Regency, targeting three integrated health posts (Posyandu) and three elementary schools. The methods used included interactive lectures, group discussions, waste sorting simulations, and the use of visual media such as posters and educational videos. The results of the activity demonstrated high participant enthusiasm, as evidenced by active participation during the outreach and discussion sessions. However, it was also found that most residents were aware of the dangers of littering but did not yet have adequate alternatives for managing plastic waste. Limited waste management facilities were a major obstacle. Nevertheless, this activity succeeded in building participant motivation to care more about the surrounding environment and begin implementing simple practices such as sorting household waste and reducing the use of single-use plastics. Thus, community-based education has proven to be an effective strategy for building environmental awareness and encouraging behavioral change. However, the sustainability of such programs requires the provision of infrastructure and local government policies that support sustainable environmental management.

Abstract

A common problem faced by the community is the low level of knowledge among pregnant women regarding the importance of regular prenatal checkups, balanced nutrition, prenatal exercise techniques, mental preparation, and warning signs during pregnancy. This condition can increase the risk of complications that endanger the mother and fetus. To address this issue, the "Pregnancy Class: A Loyal Friend Towards a Happy Childbirth" program was implemented, which aims to improve the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of pregnant women for a healthy and comfortable delivery. This program was implemented through several methods, namely pre- and post-tests to measure the level of participant understanding, health education by professionals, and mentoring in prenatal exercise practice. The counseling materials included the importance of regular prenatal checkups, proper nutritional fulfillment, early detection of pregnancy warning signs, and mental and emotional strengthening of pregnant women. The results of the activity showed that this program had a positive impact. The average knowledge score of pregnant women increased from 60 in the pre-test to 90 in the post-test. In addition, participants showed consistent attendance and high enthusiasm throughout the session. The prenatal exercise activity ran smoothly, with active participation from participants who felt more relaxed and comfortable, especially in the waist area. In conclusion, this program successfully increased the preparedness and confidence of pregnant women facing childbirth. The implication of this activity is the importance of implementing regular and ongoing prenatal classes with the support of village midwives, health workers, and families to reduce the risk of complications and improve the well-being of mothers and babies.

Abstract

Social media has become a dominant public space used by teenagers for expression, networking, and virtual interaction. In Indonesia, Vocational High School (SMK) students are one of the active social media user groups with high creative potential, but are also vulnerable to misuse due to low digital literacy. Frequent phenomena include the use of harsh language or hate speech, the spread of unverified information (hoaxes), and violations of digital privacy that can impact reputation and legal aspects. This study aims to analyze the understanding and application of communication ethics on social media among students of SMK Muhammadiyah 3, South Tangerang City, while identifying the gap between their theoretical understanding and actual practice. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and observations during the socialization of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). The theoretical framework used is Communication Ethics according to Johannesen (2002), which emphasizes the principles of responsibility, honesty, and respect for the rights of others in public communication. The results show that most students understand the basic concepts of legal norms and communication ethics, but their implementation in social media activities is still limited. Contributing factors include a lack of awareness of legal consequences, the influence of peer groups, and a lack of critical thinking skills before sharing content. These findings highlight a significant gap between digital knowledge and behavior. In conclusion, a sustainable and contextual digital literacy education program is needed, emphasizing not only legal aspects but also building ethical awareness, reflective skills, and the ability to manage digital identities responsibly. This will enable students to become intelligent, critical, and ethical social media users.
