Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen Qur'anic literacy, worship discipline, and basic financial literacy among the congregation of Surau Wang Ulu, Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia, through a Muhammadiyah values-based empowerment approach. The ten-week program employed Participatory Action Research (PAR) across five stages: needs assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up. A total of 50 main participants took part, comprising 38 children aged 7–15 and 12 adults, with 25 parents and surau administrators serving as supporting participants. Interventions included talaqqi-based Qur'anic instruction, structured salah simulation, individual mentoring, parental engagement workshops, and basic financial literacy sessions. Data were collected through pre- and post-assessments, observation checklists, attendance records, and participant feedback, and analyzed descriptively. Post-programme assessments showed improvements across all measured indicators: tahsin recitation accuracy (72%), tajwid application (70%), beginner Qur'anic reading progression (65%), salah movement accuracy (68%), congregational prayer participation (75%), and basic financial literacy (60%). Community attendance throughout the programme reached 85%. These findings indicate that an integrated Muhammadiyah-based community service model combining spiritual, worship, and life-skills components can yield measurable improvements across religious and socioeconomic domains.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in supporting community economic growth; however, they still face challenges in business financial management, particularly related to digital financial literacy. This condition was also found among MSME actors in Nagari Padang Lua, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, where most business owners still used manual financial records, had not separated business and personal finances, and had not utilized digital bookkeeping applications. This community service program aimed to improve digital financial literacy and strengthen the entrepreneurial capacity of MSMEs through a Participatory Action Research (PAR)-based training approach. The implementation methods included observation, pre-test, training workshops, practical sessions on the use of digital financial applications, mentoring, and post-test evaluation. The participants consisted of 10 MSME owners from culinary, handicraft, retail, and service sectors. The results showed an improvement in participants’ digital financial literacy understanding by approximately 35–40%. Before the training, 80% of participants still used manual bookkeeping and 100% had never used digital bookkeeping applications. After the program, 70% of participants began using digital financial recording applications, 80% started separating business and personal finances, and 60% adopted QRIS and mobile banking for business transactions. The program demonstrated that digital financial literacy training could improve MSMEs’ financial management practices to become more systematic, transparent, and adaptive to digital economic transformation.

Abstract

Choosing a college major is an important academic decision that determines the direction of education, competency development, and career readiness of students after completing secondary education. However, in practice, many students still choose majors without adequate understanding of the study program, interests, talents, and academic prospects, potentially leading to wrong choices when entering college. This condition can have an impact on academic stress, low learning motivation, and unsuitable study directions. This community service activity aims to provide literacy in choosing college majors to grade XII students so they can make study choices more rationally and in accordance with their potential. The activity was carried out on January 15, 2026 at SMKN 7 Palembang in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Motorcycle Engineering with 30 participants using an educational-participatory approach through lectures and interactive discussions. The lecture method was used to convey material regarding the importance of higher education, introduction to study programs, the relationship between interests and talents with major choices, and the risks of making mistakes in choosing a major. Furthermore, interactive discussions were held to deepen participants' understanding through direct questions and answers regarding major choices, college life, college entrance paths, and strategies for being a good student. The results of the activity showed that participants were highly enthusiastic, actively participated in discussions, and demonstrated an increased understanding of the importance of literacy in selecting a college major. Evaluation of the activity also indicated that students viewed the activity as highly beneficial in providing valuable resources for making informed and focused choices for further study.
