Abstract

This study aimed to describe and examine the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and knee pain among adult patients at RSUD Cempaka Putih and to review this relationship from an Islamic perspective. This study employed a quantitative observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 40 adult patients experiencing knee pain who met the inclusion criteria and were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements to determine Body Mass Index (BMI) and assessment of knee pain intensity using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data analysis included univariate analysis to describe the distribution of BMI and knee pain levels, as well as bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test to assess the relationship between BMI and knee pain. The results showed that the majority of participants had a BMI above the normal range, with more than half of the participants classified as overweight, obese, or obese class II. Knee pain intensity was predominantly moderate to severe. The Chi-Square test indicated that there was no statistically significant relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and knee pain severity (p = 0.346). However, descriptively, a tendency toward a higher proportion of severe knee pain was observed among participants with higher BMI, particularly in the obesity and obesity class II categories. There was no statistically significant association between Body Mass Index (BMI) and knee pain among adult patients at RSUD Cempaka Putih.

Abstract

Extreme weather poses a serious threat to the safety and activities of traditional fishermen in coastal areas, including Cermin Beach in North Sumatra. This study aims to describe fishermen's knowledge of extreme weather, their preparedness before going to sea, and the challenges they face when sudden weather changes occur. The research method used was qualitative, with in-depth interviews with purposively selected traditional fishermen. The results indicate that most fishermen still rely on natural signs such as clouds, wind, and personal intuition, although some have begun to utilize weather apps or GPS as additional sources of information. Fishermen's preparedness for extreme weather remains relatively low, indicated by the minimal use of safety equipment such as life jackets and the lack of special preparation before going to sea. The decision of some fishermen to continue going to sea despite adverse conditions is also influenced by economic pressures. The main obstacles faced include high waves, strong winds, heavy rain, and a lack of safety facilities on board. These findings emphasize the need for improved safety education, the provision of protective equipment, and the use of official weather information to reduce the risk of accidents at sea.

Abstract

SMPN 1 Pancur Batu is a school located in an earthquake-prone area, but it does not yet have structured earthquake mitigation facilities and learning programs. This condition can be seen from the students' low understanding of safety measures during an earthquake and the lack of safety promotion media such as posters or other educational tools. Some students also do not understand basic actions such as the Drop, Cover, and Hold On principle, and there are no regular earthquake mitigation education activities conducted at the school. This study aims to examine the effect of audiovisual animation media on earthquake mitigation behavior among ninth-grade students. The research method used an experimental design with a “One Group Pretest–Posttest Design” and involved 50 students selected using purposive sampling. The results of the study showed a significant increase in mitigation behavior, with 48 students (96%) experiencing an increase in scores after being given an intervention in the form of earthquake education animation. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test nonparametric test, a p-value < 0.001 (p < 0.05) was obtained, which means that there is a significant effect between the use of audiovisual animation media and students' earthquake mitigation behavior. Thus, it can be concluded that audiovisual animation media is effective in improving students' knowledge, attitudes, and actions in dealing with earthquakes. The suggestion given is the need for regular disaster education in collaboration with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) or related agencies so that students' preparedness can be improved and applied in real situations.

Abstract

Nuts have the potential to lower blood sugar levels and increase insulin sensitivity in people with diabetes mellitus through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition activities due to their phytochemical and melatonin content. Melatonin is known to lower blood sugar through the mechanism of inhibiting the α-glucosidase enzyme, but there has been no research related to the melatonin content in local Indonesian nuts. This study aims to identify phytochemicals and melatonin and test the α-glucosidase enzyme inhibitory activity in extracts of red beans, peanuts, soybeans, tolo beans, and mung beans. Samples were prepared in the form of simples, then extracted by maceration method. Qualitative identification of phytochemicals (flavonoids, phenolics, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins) was carried out using specific reagents, while total flavonoid and total phenolic levels were determined quantitatively by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Melatonin content was tested using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), and α-glucosidase enzyme inhibitory activity was tested in vitro. Data analysis was performed using linear regression and One-Way ANOVA. The results showed that all extracts contained flavonoids, phenolics, and alkaloids, with saponins found only in soybeans. The highest flavonoid and phenolic content was found in peanuts, while the best α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was demonstrated by red beans with an IC50 value of 0.4057 mg/mL.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a high level of vulnerability to earthquakes because it is located in the Ring of Fire. The low level of students' knowledge about earthquake mitigation measures shows the need for early disaster education. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of earthquake mitigation education in increasing the knowledge of students at SMP Negeri 1 Pancur Batu. This study used a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design with a sample of 57 ninth-grade students. The intervention was carried out through counseling using PowerPoint, educational videos, question and answer sessions, and earthquake simulations. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 43.05 on the pretest to 55.30 on the posttest. The paired sample t-test statistical test showed a p-value = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. These findings show that earthquake mitigation education is effective in increasing students' knowledge. Similar education and simulation programs are recommended to be carried out regularly to strengthen disaster preparedness in the school environment.

Abstract

This research tries to reveal the effects of attendance and motivation on staff performance at the Sumbersari Community Health Center (Puskesmas Sumbersari). Staff performance is an important factor in determining the quality of primary health care services provided to the community. Good staff performance is essential for patient satisfaction and the efficiency of health care delivery. Using a multivariate analysis approach, this study examined data from a total of 45 staff. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which was then analyzed using multiple regression analysis methods including R², t-test, and F-test. The results showed that staff performance was affected by attendance and motivation when considered together. Individually, motivation has a positive effect on employee performance, while attendance has no significant effect when examined together with job satisfaction. These results indicate that job satisfaction is the most important factor affecting employee performance. This highlights the need for organizational policies that promote motivation and create a supportive work environment. Therefore, when managing attendance discipline and focusing on improving employee performance and quality of care, management should prioritize strategies to improve employee motivation.

Abstract

Adolescent-Friendly Health Services (Pelayanan Kesehatan Peduli Remaja/PKPR) is a strategic program aimed at improving adolescent health through promotive and preventive approaches. However, the implementation of PKPR at primary healthcare centers has not been fully optimal. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of PKPR services at Tanjung Priok Public Health Center, North Jakarta. A qualitative research approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document review. Research informants included healthcare workers, PKPR program managers, and other related stakeholders. The findings reveal that the implementation of PKPR at Tanjung Priok Public Health Center has not been optimal, as indicated by limited human resources, insufficient specialized training related to PKPR, and suboptimal health promotion activities and adolescent involvement. In addition, cross-sectoral support and the utilization of facilities and infrastructure remain limited. These findings are consistent with the 2024 SNPKPR evaluation results, which reported an achievement score of 85.67%, the lowest in North Jakarta. Strengthening staff capacity, enhancing cross-sector collaboration, and developing innovative service strategies are necessary to improve the effectiveness of PKPR implementation in meeting adolescents’ health needs.

Abstract

Obesity in primary school-age children is a growing public health challenge and requires integrated policies to reduce its prevalence. Schools have a strategic role in shaping healthy eating behaviors and lifestyles through planned and sustainable nutrition education. This study aims to map the role of nutrition education in supporting the reduction of obesity rates among elementary school-age children through content analysis of international and national policy documents, as well as identifying obstacles and opportunities for its implementation. The qualitative content analysis approach was used on seven official documents from WHO, FAO, UNICEF, CDC, and the Ministry of Education and Culture-UNICEF Indonesia. The results of the study show that nutrition education plays an important role in improving children's knowledge, attitudes, and healthy eating behaviors, and has the potential to support reducing the risk of obesity when integrated with school environmental policies such as healthy canteens, scheduled physical activities, and cross-sectoral support. However, its effectiveness is still hampered by limited teacher capacity, resources, and intersectoral coordination. The study does not quantitatively measure the reduction in obesity, but highlights the contribution of nutrition education and school policies in efforts to reduce the risk of childhood obesity in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

The preoperative period is a crucial phase in surgical care, during which patients frequently experience psychological distress, particularly anxiety. Anxiety may arise from uncertainty about the surgical procedure, anesthesia, potential complications, and postoperative outcomes. Previous studies indicate that 40-80% of surgical patients experience preoperative anxiety at varying levels. This emotional response can activate the sympathetic nervous system, leading to physiological changes such as increased blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. If not properly identified and managed, these alterations may affect perioperative stability and recovery. This study aimed to describe preoperative anxiety levels and the stability of vital signs among patients at Puruk Cahu Regional General Hospital. A quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 30 adult patients scheduled for elective surgery, selected through purposive sampling. Anxiety was measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Vital signs including blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and body temperature were assessed using standard hospital equipment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and presented as frequencies and percentages. The results showed that 33.3% of patients had no/normal anxiety, 30.0% had moderate anxiety, and 33.3% experienced severe anxiety, while 3.3% had mild anxiety. Abnormal blood pressure was found in 80.0% of patients, whereas most had normal pulse rate (73.3%), respiratory rate (93.3%), and body temperature (93.3%). These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive preoperative psychological and physiological assessment.
