Background. The storytelling method has become a popular approach in English language learning due to its ability to increase student interest and participation. However, quantitative research specifically focussing on the effectiveness of this method in the development of reading skills is limited. Purpose. This study aims to investigate students' perceptions of the effectiveness of the storytelling method in English language learning, with a focus on the development of reading skills. Method. This study uses a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to students who are learning English. The questionnaire measured students' perceptions of the effectiveness of the storytelling method in improving their reading skills. Results. The results showed that most students (83.3%) believed that the storytelling method was effective or very effective in improving their interest and understanding of reading skills. However, a small proportion of students (16.7%) had a neutral view on the effectiveness of this method. Conclusion. The findings of this study indicate that the storytelling method is effective in improving students' reading skills in English language learning. By considering students' perceptions and integrating the storytelling approach into the curriculum, educators can enhance students' learning experiences and support the development of reading skills more effectively.

Background. The Grammar-Translation Method (GT) and Audio-Lingual Method (ALM) are two main approaches to English language learning that have long been used in Indonesian university settings. GT emphasizes understanding grammatical structures and classical texts, while ALM focuses on repeated practice and the use of audio as a source of language input. Purpose. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Grammar-Translation and Audio-Lingual Methods in English language learning in Indonesian universities, taking into account the views and experiences of lecturers and students. Method. Data were collected through an online survey asking respondents' opinions regarding the effectiveness of GT and ALM in English language learning. The survey included structured questions about respondents' perceptions of these learning methods. Results. Data analysis showed polarized opinions among respondents regarding the effectiveness of GT and ALM. Most respondents saw GT as effective in understanding language structures and classical texts, while ALM was considered effective in improving speaking and listening skills through repeated practice and audio. Conclusion. As a result of this study, it can be concluded that GT and ALM have their own advantages and disadvantages in English language learning in Indonesian universities. Therefore, a holistic and integrated approach that combines elements of both methods can be the most effective approach in preparing students for effective English communication in various contexts.

Background. Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence that has become an important component in modern technology. This is due to its ability to develop computer programmes that can access and process data. In the context of Islamic learning, the application of machine learning can be a solution to improve the learning process and help in checking plagiarism. Purpose. This research aims to explore the utilisation of machine learning in Islamic learning. The specific objective is to understand the extent to which machine learning can facilitate Islamic religious education students in the learning process and assist in checking plagiarism. Method. This research uses a quantitative approach by collecting data through the Google Form application distributed to Islamic religious education students as research subjects. The data obtained is in the form of numbers which are then analysed to gain an understanding of the use of machine learning in Islamic learning. Results. The results showed that the use of machine learning can facilitate Islamic religious education students in learning and is effective in checking plagiarism. Students experience ease in understanding the material and the learning process becomes more efficient. Conclusion. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that machine learning has great potential in improving Islamic learning by solving various problems that may occur, such as difficulties in understanding the material and plagiarism problems. Nevertheless, this study has limitations in the scope of the subject which only focuses on Islamic religious education students. Therefore, the researcher recommends further research to expand the scope of subjects and deepen the understanding of the use of machine learning in various fields, as a reference for future research.

Background. The ability to translate is a crucial skill for EFL students and helps overcome language barriers. This study investigates the improvement of translation skills at Universitas Indraprasta PGRI and explains the types of componential assessment (skills assessment) as an effective translation strategy to increase students' proficiency. Purpose. This study aims to improve translation skills among students at Universitas Indraprasta PGRI by using componential assessment as a strategy to enhance their proficiency. Method. An undergraduate class of fifty students in a Translation course participated in this study. The research utilizes a sequential explanatory design, beginning with an Indonesian-to-English translation proficiency test followed by a content analysis of the translations. The study focuses on assessing lexical-semantic, cultural, pragmatic, and grammatical skills through componential assessment. Results. The quantitative results indicated that the quality of translations was generally poor. The primary reason for this was the participants' insufficient mastery of both Indonesian and English, which made achieving equivalency challenging. The qualitative analysis revealed that students faced difficulties in several areas:Lexical-semantic skills; Cultural skills; Pragmatic skills; Grammatical skills. Translation mistakes were predominantly found in grammar, specifically: Pluralization; Capitalization; Inflection of words; Present tense usage; Agreement between subject and verb participles; Use of demonstrative pronouns and fragments representing them. Conclusion. The findings of this study highlight the importance of effective translation teaching methods, particularly in Indonesian universities where students are expected to have a strong command of both Indonesian and English. Improving these methods can significantly enhance students' translation skills and overall language proficiency.
