Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to increase knowledge of catfish farmers in Srikaton Village, North Bengkulu, about the need to process catfish into various products that have higher economic value. Community service activities are divided into two stages: counseling and demonstration. In the counseling activity, participants are given provisions on various processing of catfish products and their natural preservation. Then, a demonstration and practice are carried out to directly show how to process catfish into various home industries with economic value. Catfish farmers, PKK mothers, and residents in the surrounding area attended this activity. The result of this activity is that mothers around Srikaton Village can make their own various processed catfish foods in the form of shredded catfish, crackers, and catfish nuggets. The obstacles still faced are self-awareness to become entrepreneurs, and marketing of home industry products that have been produced. This problem can be resolved according to the desired target through systematic and continuous assistance. Keywords: Catfish; catfish floss; catfish chips; catfish nuggets; home industry

Abstract

The subject of Chemistry is still relatively unfamiliar among junior high school students because it is still part of the broader Science subject taught at that level. This is also the case at SMPN 28 Bengkulu Utara, where students are still unfamiliar with chemistry. To introduce chemistry and create a positive impression of the subject among students at SMPN 28 Bengkulu Utara, an outreach activity was conducted focusing on interesting chemical phenomena — in this case, the phenomenon of quantum fluorescence.During the activity, explanations were given about the meaning of fluorescence, the causes behind it, and its applications in everyday life. The outreach activity also included demonstrations of the fluorescence phenomenon. Participants engaged in the event enthusiastically, as seen through the students' active participation. This activity is expected to help participants become more familiar with chemistry, a subject that has long been considered difficult, intimidating, and abstract. Keywords: fluorescence; chemistry; carbon quantum dots; light

Abstract

Community service activities entitled "Education on Prevention of Anemia in Adolescents and How to Overcome It at Madrasah Aliyah Pancasila" aims to improve students' understanding of anemia, including its causes, symptoms, impacts, and prevention and management steps. Anemia, especially iron deficiency anemia, is a common health problem in adolescents, especially adolescent girls, which is often caused by unhealthy diets and low awareness of the importance of iron intake. The impacts include decreased concentration in learning, fatigue, and the potential for long-term health problems. Therefore, early education is very important to increase awareness and form healthy living behaviors. This activity is carried out through interactive counseling methods, distribution of educational brochures, screening of short videos, and discussion and evaluation sessions to measure the effectiveness of participants' understanding. The material presented includes the importance of consuming nutritious foods, sources of iron, the benefits of blood-boosting tablets, and the importance of routine health checks. It is hoped that through this activity, students will be able to understand and apply steps to prevent and overcome anemia independently, so that a sustainable healthy lifestyle is formed in everyday life. Abstract

This community service activity aims to provide education about storytelling techniques to PAUD (Early Childhood Education) teachers to improve English language skills in early childhood. Storytelling is an effective method in instilling character values, increasing creativity, and introducing English in a fun way from an early age. This activity was carried out at PAUD Islam Intan Insani, Bengkulu City, on November 23, 2024, involving 17 teachers. The method of implementing the activity consists of three main stages, namely training, practice with guidance, and monitoring and evaluation. In the training stage, the teachers were given materials on the basic concepts of storytelling, vocal techniques, the use of props, and the selection of suitable stories for children. Furthermore, in the practice stage, the participants practiced the techniques they had learned. The last stage, monitoring and evaluation, assessed the teachers' understanding and ability to apply the storytelling technique in the classroom. The results of this activity show that the teachers understand the  storytelling technique well and are able to apply it effectively in teaching and learning activities. This activity has a positive impact on improving the teachers' teaching skills and increasing children's enthusiasm for learning English through stories. Thus, this activity supports the creation of fun and meaningful learning from an early age. Keywords: storytelling; early childhood education; English language learning; teacher training; PAUD.

Abstract

The activity "Art for the Heart: Art Therapy as Emotional Empowerment for Children at the Guyub Rukun Orphanage" was implemented as an application of art-based Guidance and Counseling to enhance the emotional well-being of orphanage children. These children often face psychosocial challenges due to the lack of affection and past traumatic experiences. Art therapy was chosen as a method because it allows children to express their emotions freely and creatively through artistic media. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with a participatory approach through socialization sessions and hands-on practice. The results showed that the children demonstrated high enthusiasm and were able to express their feelings through activities such as drawing, coloring, and collaborative art projects. The program provided a safe space for emotional exploration and also improved social skills, self-confidence, and mutual respect. Furthermore, the activity increased caregivers’ awareness of the importance of creative approaches in supporting children. In conclusion, art therapy is proven to be an effective strategy within Guidance and Counseling to strengthen the emotional capacity of orphaned children and is recommended for sustainable implementation. Abstract

SMAN 10 Bengkulu City is one of the Senior High Schools in Bengkulu City which has implemented independent Curriculum. This curriculum allows teachers to apply learning methods and develop teaching materials independently. This requires teachers to have skills in designing innovative learning. We conducted a community service program aiming to train teachers on innovative learning through creating Voice Threads, Blogging, Social Bookmarking, Podcasts, and Screencasts. This program was initiated by introducing  Voice Threads, Blogging, Social Bookmarking, Podcasts, and Screencasts. We also demonstrate how to use them in creating innovative learning. Afterwards, we allowed the participants to give question in question answer section. At the end of the program, we sent a quistionaire to obtain a feedback of the program. The data showed that this program is useful for them as a teacher because it is something new and can improve their knowledge. This was also insightful to design innovative learning. Overall, they were satisfying with this program.

Abstract

Community service program was aimed at the chemistry teacher that are the member of “Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP)” or the community of chemistry teacher in high school in Bengkulu City. The topic of the community service is introducing green chemistry-based practicum module that was developed by a student in Chemistry Education Study Program, using natural indicator that is readily available and easily obtained unlike synthetic indicator that is expensive and difficult to obtain. This e-module encouraged schools to conduct chemistry practicums using surrounding ingredients based on green chemistry concept. The concept of using surrounding materials for practicums excited chemistry teachers as this usually become the biggest obstacle in conducting chemistry practicum in high schools.

Abstract

Biopore holes are a practical technology for water conservation and retention, allowing rainwater to seep into the ground through specifically sized holes. This method aims to reduce surface flooding caused by rain runoff, while also retaining and transferring water to underground reservoirs. Additionally, it is cost-effective, easy to create, and multifunctional, as it helps manage waste and produce compost. Biopore holes can be implemented in residential areas, yards, or fields, making it particularly suitable for densely populated urban neighborhoods. One way to promote this is through educational outreach using visual aids in areas prone to flooding and waste accumulation, encouraging the use of affordable, effective, multifunctional, and environmentally friendly technologies. The outreach has already been conducted in Sukarami Village, aiming to enhance residents' understanding of independently creating biopore holes and their multiple ecological benefits. Keywords: infiltration wells, biopores, appropriate technology.
