Abstract

Sekumur Village, Sekerak District, Aceh Tamiang Regency is a highly vulnerable area to flash floods and acute environmental sanitation problems. The hydrometeorological disaster at the end of 2025 destroyed almost all residential infrastructure, leaving approximately 300 households in extreme emergency conditions with minimal access to clean water and basic sanitation facilities. This Community Service Program (PkM) aims to strengthen disaster mitigation literacy and community sanitation resilience through an intergenerational multi-grade approach involving children, adolescents, parents, and the elderly. Methods applied include Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA)-based participatory education, family hygiene kit distribution, psychosocial intervention through trauma-informed pedagogy, and communal asset governance assistance. The program is implemented over ten months (February–November 2026) through four systematic phases. Expected outcomes include enhanced community knowledge on disaster mitigation and healthy sanitation practices, sustainable formation of clean and safe living behaviors, and the establishment of a replicable intergenerational community education model for other disaster-prone areas

Abstract

Abstract

This community service activity aims to address the issue of melinjo peel and leaf waste in Karangtawang Village, Kuningan Regency, through the application of zero waste food processing technology. The target partner for this activity is the Mujursari Farmer Group. The implementation methods include surveys, counseling, technical training on product manufacturing, and mentoring. The products developed are based on optimization research for broth formulations based on melinjo waste (peels and leaves) as well as gnemon flakes. The results indicate effective technology transfer, where the community is capable of producing broth variants with the best formulation (90% melinjo peel : 10% leaves) which received high sensory acceptance. This program is expected to increase the economic value of the waste by up to IDR 15-20 million per month and support sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to empower mosque youth through maqashid-based Islamic family law literacy as a preventive strategy against child marriage. The persistence of child marriage remains a significant social issue, particularly in coastal and rural communities, and is influenced by limited legal awareness, entrenched socio-cultural norms, and partial religious understanding that tends to emphasize formal legality rather than substantive objectives. This program applies a Community-Based Research (CBR) approach involving 47 mosque youth as active participants. The implementation includes several stages, namely social mapping to identify community conditions, development of legal literacy modules based on maqashid al-shariah, participatory training sessions, and the formation of peer educators to ensure program sustainability. Data were collected through observation, interviews, focus group discussions, and pre- and post-tests to measure changes in participants’ knowledge and attitudes. The results indicate a significant increase in legal literacy, with an improvement of 45–60%, along with a notable shift in participants’ perspectives toward delaying marriage until achieving adequate psychological, social, and economic readiness. The maqashid-based approach proved effective in transforming normative religious perspectives into more contextual and substantive legal awareness. This activity highlights the strategic role of mosque-based empowerment as a culturally relevant and sustainable approach to strengthening community legal awareness and preventing child marriage, particularly by positioning youth as agents of social change within their communities.

Abstract

Arts and crafts learning in elementary schools (ES) is often considered less interesting due to the minimal use of interactive learning media, resulting in low student interest and understanding. This community service program aims to improve the quality of arts learning and student skills through training in making flowers from wire feathers as a creative and applicable medium. The method used is a participatory approach through socialization, demonstrations, direct practice, and mentoring for teachers. This activity was carried out from November - December 2025. The results of the activity showed an increase in student creativity, skills, and interest in learning. In addition, this provided innovation in developing interesting and contextual learning media. This activity also instilled the value of sustainability by utilizing simple, environmentally friendly materials. Overall, this community service had a positive impact in creating more interactive, enjoyable, and meaningful arts learning for students elementary schools (ES).

Abstract

Hypertension is the leading non-communicable disease (NCD) in Samarinda City, imposing a considerable economic burden on patients and their families. This study aimed to analyze direct and indirect costs borne by hypertension patients in the humid tropical forest area of Samarinda City. A quantitative descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 370 respondents recruited via purposive sampling from 10 community health centers (Puskesmas) across Samarinda. Data were collected through structured interviews covering direct costs (outpatient fees, inpatient expenses, and other out-of-pocket medical costs) and indirect costs (transportation, assistive devices, and productivity loss for both patients and caregivers). Results showed that the average annual direct cost per patient was IDR 1,236,345, dominated by routine outpatient and alternative treatment expenses. The average annual indirect cost was IDR 2,177,808, with productivity loss being the largest component. Indirect costs significantly exceeded direct costs, highlighting the hidden economic burden of hypertension. All respondents were JKN/BPJS participants, yet out-of-pocket expenditures remained substantial. These findings emphasize the need for comprehensive hypertension control programs that address both medical and non-medical economic burdens.
