Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine glucose level in dog's blood before and after hunting activity. This research used 25 local dogs which is kept by Persatuan Olah Raga Buru Babi (PORBI) located at Kenagarian Mungo Sub-district Luak District Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota West Sumatera. Data were analyzed with T-test. Results showed that average of dog blood glucose level before hunting was 91.56±7.70 mg/dl and significantly decrease (P0.05) to 57.84±5.04 mg/dL after hunting activity. As a conclusion, blood glucose level of dog before hunting activity was found in normal range but lowered glucose level were observed after hunting activity.

Abstract

This research aim was to determine the number of erythrocytes and hematocrit value of broilers  that infected  by Eimeria tenella and given neem leaf extract combined with jaloh extract. Sample used in this study is 20 strains Cobb broiler chickens aged 15 days old. Sampled broilers were separated into 5 treatment groups consisting of 4 chickens, each treatment were chicken that infected by oocysts Eimeria tenella and not given other treatments (P1), chicken infected by oocysts Eimeria tenella and given the anti-stress commercial (P2), chicken infected by oocysts Eimeria tenella and given the leaf extract jaloh 1000mg/L (P3), chicken infected with oocysts Eimeria tenella and given extracts of neem leaf 250mg/L (P4), and a chicken infected with oocysts Eimeria tenella and given the leaf extract jaloh 1000mg/L combined with neem leaf extract 250mg/L (P5). Administration of each treatment were dissolved into the chicken water and administered for 10 days in the morning and evening. The design used in the study was completely randomized design with 5 treatments, each treatment consisted of 4 repetitions. Parameters observed were the number of erythrocytes and hematocrit values. Results from this study showed that neem extracts combined with jaloh given for 10 days had no effect on the number of erythrocytes and hematocrit values of broilers that infected by Eimeria tenella

Abstract

The research aimed to isolate Pseudomonas sp from fail to hatch quail eggs in Garot village, Darul Imarah subdistrict, Aceh Besar. Thirty failed to hatch quail eggs were examined in microbiology laboratory of Veternery Medical, Faculty Syiah Kuala University. Modification of examined Carter method was used in this research. The result of this research showed 12 of 30 samples examine we were positive infected by pseudomonas sp. It can concluded that bacteria Pseudomonas sp is one of the causes of failure hatching quail eggs in Garot village, Darul Imarah subdistrict, Aceh Besar

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the influence of dipping time in natural methyl testosterone hormone (MT) on successful male forming process of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) larvae. This research used 360 7 days old tilapia larvae, purchased from cultivation of brackish water, Ujung Batee, Banda Aceh. The samples were divided into 4 treatment groups with three repetitions, they were P0 (control group without treatment), PII (Tilapia larvae were dipped in natural MT for 10 hours), PII (Tilapia larvae were dipped in natural MT for 20 hours), and PIII (Tilapia larvae were dipped in natural MT for 30 hours). All tilapia larvae were maintained until the age of 60 days, before the sex of the fish examined. The average percentage of male tilapia in group P0, PI, PII, and PIII were 50.28, 87.77, 90.06, and 95.05%, respectively. Statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences (P0.05) among P0, PI, PII, and PIII. Based on result of this research, it can be concluded that the longest dipping time the highest the percentage of male tilapia.Key words: larvae, tilapia, natural hormone methyl testosterone, the male sex percentage

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui konsentrasi AFB1 pada jenis makanan olahan asal jagung yang dipasarkan di Banda Aceh. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan di pasar dan swalayan di Banda Aceh. Deteksi AFB1 pada sampel menggunakan metode enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Berdasarkan penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa dari 6 sampel makanan berbahan baku jagung, 5 sampel (83,33% ) terkontaminasi AFB1. Walaupun terkontaminasi AFB1 namun semua sampel masih aman dikonsumsi sesuai dengan persyaratan yang ditetapkan pemerintah yaitu maksimal 20 ppb.

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between scrotal circumference and weight of testis with spermatozoa concentration aceh cattle at different age levels, as many as 20 samples of bull Aceh. The data collected were analyzed using analysis of variance satua direction. When there berbedaan between treatments, the data were further tested by Duncan multiple test, while to determine the relationship between age, scrotal circumference, weighing testis with spermatozoa concentration used simple regression analysis. Results of analysis of variance (ANOVA) scrotal circumference one way to show that there are significant differences (P 0.05) among all three age groups, as well as the concentration of spermatozoa showed significant differences in each age group. Scrotal circumference was positively related to the weight of the testes with regression coefficient (r) = 0, 945), the value (P 0.05), and the concentration of spermatozoa with regression coefficient (r) = 0, 834, the value (P 0, 05), as well as testes weight was positively related to the concentration of spermatozoa with regrsi coefficient (r) = 0, 831,(P 0.05). It can be concluded, the age effect on scrotal circumference, testis weight and the concentration of spermatozoa Aceh cattle.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the potency of Wedelia biflora water extract as pain killer. Completely randomized design (CDR) was used in this study. A total of 30 mice (Mus musculus) were divided into five treatment groups. Mice in group 1 (P0) were administered with mefenamat (positive control) and mice group 2 (P1) were only given aquadest (negative control). Mice in another3 groups (P2, P3, and P4) were administered with Wedelia biflora water extract with the concentration of 100, 75, and 50%, respectively. The painful response time was done using hot plate method and observed at 0, 30, 60, and 90 minutes, whereas abdominal writhing method was applied to count the total of writhing. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan. Result showed that Wedelia biflora water extract with various levels of concentration were affect significantly (P0.05) compared to negative control but no significant different (P0.05) with positive control. The analgesic potency showed significant effect (P0.05) at concentration of 100 and 75% compared to negative control, but no significant different (P0.05) compare to positive control on both hot plate methods and abdominal writhing method, whereas 50% concentration showed analgesic potency (P0.05) only on hot plate method. In conclusion, Wedelia biflora water extract is potential as analgesic on mouse and shows no significant different with mefenamat. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Key words: analgesik, Wedelia biflora, painful, total of writhe

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui jenis-jenis parasit cacing nematoda yang menginfestasi saluran pencernaan serta derajat infestasinya pada anjing pemburu (Canis familiaris) di Kecamatan Lareh Sago Halaban, Sumatera Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan sampel feses dari 70 ekor anjing pemburu jantan. Penelitian ini mengunakan metode sentrifus untuk mengidentifikasi telur cacing nematoda serta metode Mc Master untuk penghitungan jumlah telur cacing nematoda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 70 ekor anjing pemburu di Kecamatan Lareh Sago Halaban, Sumatera Barat ditemukan sebanyak 40 ekor anjing pemburu (57,14%) positif mempunyai telur cacing nematoda gastrointestinal dengan jenis infeksi tunggal oleh Ancylostoma spp. Uncinaria spp. dan Toxocara spp., infeksi ganda oleh Ancylostoma spp. dan Uncinaria spp. serta Ancylostoma spp. dan Toxocara spp.dan multi infeksi oleh ketiga jenis cacing tersebut serta 30 ekor anjing pemburu (42,85%) tidakterinfeksi cacing. Dari 40 anjing yang terinfestasi tidak terdapat yang bersifat berat, dan 3 ekor menderita infestasi sedang dan selebihnya bersifat ringan.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the value of erythrocyte, hemoglobin, and hematocrit of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) infected with Trypanosoma evansi and given ethanol extract of Malacca leaves (Phyllanthus emblica). The animals used in this study were 20 male rats. All rats were randomly divided into 5 treatment groups, each group consisting of 4 rats. The negative control group (K0) without T. evansi infection and without malacca leaf ethanol extract, the positive control group (K1) was infected with T. evansi without giving malacca leaf ethanol extract, the treatment group K2, K3, K4 were infected with T.evansi and were given ethanol extract Malacca leaf with doses of 300mg/kg BW, 600mg/kg BW, and 900mg/kg BW, respectively. The extract was given orally for 3 consecutive days. On the fourth day, blood was drawn for all groups through the orbital vein with a hematocrit pipette after administration of 0,2 ml Ketamin. Then the erythrocyte, hemoglobin, and hematocrit values were calculated using a hematology analyzer. The mean (± SD) erythrocyte values (106 / µl) were 7.66 ± 0.10, respectively; 2.65 ± 0.24; 4.56 ± 0.91; 6.58 ± 0.10; 5.86 ± 0.27; hemoglobin (g / dl) were 13.64 ± 0.26, respectively; 4.67 ± 0.13; 8.38 ± 0.72; 11.25 ± 0.58; 9.55 ± 0.56, the hematocrit (%) were 40.97 ± 0.67, respectively; 28.27 ± 0.76; 30.44 ± 0.48; 37.70 ± 0.40; 34.06 ± 0.17. The results showed that administration of ethanol extract of malacca leaves at a dose of 600mg/kg BB had a significant effect in maintaining the value of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit of white rats that had been infected with Trypanosoma evansi.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify the effect of sipatah-patah (Cissus quadrangularis Salisb) leaf extract on mandible density of ovariectomized rats (Rattus norvegicus). The samples were 12 female rats which were divided into 4 treatment groups with 3 replications. K0 consisted of ovariectomized rats without Cissus quadrangularis Salisb exstract, wheares K1, K2 and K3 consisted of ovariectomized rats  and were given Sipatah-patah extract with 500mg/kg body weight, 700/mg/kg body weight and 900mg/kg body weight for 30 days. On 31st day, rats were euthanized with cloroform and mandible bones were collected for histological preparation. Parameters observed were bone structures (osteosit, osteoblast, osteoclast and trabekula). The results showed that in K0 group, bone density was decreased and became thinner, osteoclast cells were found on trabekula, and low density of active and passive osteoblast were also detected. The treatment group (K1 and K2) showed an improvement stucture of trabekula,where the amount of osteoclast were lower than K0, as well as the amount of active osteoblast, although a lot of passive osteoblast were still found. The treatment group (K3) showed an improvement as the most dense trabekula structure with large amount of active osteoblast cell density without the existance of osteoclast compared to other grups. In this research, it would be concluded that the adding sipatah-patah extract with a dose of 900 mg/kb body weight showed a higher number of active osteoblasts and trabekula density compared to the control groups, K1, and K2 on ovariectomized mandible bone rats
