Abstract

The aims of this study was to examine the ability of willow bark extract to prevent kidney tissue damage from T. evansi infection. This study used 25 rats which were randomly divided into 5 treatment groups, each groups consisted of 5 rats. Rats in control group (K0) were not infected with T. evansi and without administration of willow bark extract. Group 1 (P1) was infected with 103/0,3 ml of T. evansi without willow bark extract administration. Group 2, 3, and 4 were infected with 103/0.3 ml T. evansi and received willow bark extract at dose of 30, 45, and 60 mg/kg bw, respectively. Willow bark extract were administered for 3 days consecutively. On day 4, the rats were sacrificed using chloroform and the kidneys were collected for histopathological examination. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the administration of willow bark extract at doses of 30 and 45 mg/kg bw were able to prevent damage of tubule cells and glomerular renal, while the administration of 60 mg/kg bw resulted in kidney damage, indicated by necrosis in tubular glomerular cells. It could be concluded that willow bark extract at doses of 30 and 45 mg/kg bw were effective to prevent tissue damage in kidneys.Key words: kidneys, willow, Trypanosoma evansi

Abstract

The aim of this research was to observe the histological of the thymus in tegal duck (Anas javanicus) according to the variation of ages. The animals used in this research were one month, two months and three months old of tegal duck. The thymus of each duck was analyzed by Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) method and then observed under a light microscope. The result of the research performed differences in thymus structure of these three ages.The cortex had increased at the age of 2 months and decreased at the age of 3 months. The longest diameter of medulla at the age of 3 months was followed by ages 2 months and 1 month of tegal ducks. The distribution ofHassall's body had increased at every age level. So, the cortex thickness decreased at the age of 2 months to 3 months, while the diameter of the medulla was getting longer

Abstract

The aim of this study was to detect the glucose in urine of Canis familiaris as a medical record and  a supporting early diagnostic. Urine of thirty local dogs collected from Lamposi Tigo Nagori, Sumatera Barat. Before feeding, urine was collected individually in the morning two times. This study was doing on January 2016. The strip test was soaked in urine (5-10 ml) for 30 second directly. Data of glucose was analyzed using 4 scale discoloration of semi quantitative striptest. The result showed that glucose was not detected on 25 dogs out of 30 of  C. familiaris. Amount of 5 C. familiaris were detected the presence of glucose with small (100 mg/dl) scale. We concluded that the levels of glucose C. familiaris urine performed on the tolerance limits of glucose level.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of eggs immersed in extracts of bandotan leaves on the organoleptic quality, haugh unit, and yolk index. The samples used were 105 eggs, weighing of 51.33 ± 55.9 grams collected from the farm in Jantho. By using a completely randomized design with factorialpattern the samples were divided into five treatment groups. P0 (control) was not given any treatment , P1 was immersed in 10 % bandotan leaf extract for12 hours, P2 was immersed in 10% bandotan leaf extract for 24 hours , P3 was immersed in 20% bandotan leaf extract for 12 hours and P4 wasimmersed in 20% bandotan leaf extract for 24 hours. The observation interval was done on week 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. The organoloeptic observation of alleggs showed that either eggs on P1and P2 treatment showed no significant changes until week 4. The HU value of P0, P1, and P3 were 68.16 (grade A),70.34 (grade A), and 75.89 (grade AA), respectively. Yolk index value of P0, P1,and P2 were 0.65, 0.71, and 0.74 , respectively. In conclusion, the higherthe concentration of bandotan leaf extract given the longest the storage time of eggs based on the maintain of HU and YI value.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Key words: bandotan leaf, haugh unit, organoleptic, egg, yolk index

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides) leaf extract on the amount of bacteria in broiler intestine. This research consists of 3 treatment groups with 5 replicates. Chickens used were 25 days. Group P0 was control group without administration of bandotan leaf extract, treatment 1 (P1) was given 3ml of bandotan leaf extract, and treatment 2 (P2) was given 4ml of bandotan leaf extract. The extract was given once daily for 5 consecutive days. The result showed that the average amount of microbe on P0, P1, and P2 were 2.50x105, 1.75x105, and 1.34x105.The results of analysis of variance showed that bandotan leaf extract significantly (P0.5) decrease the amount of bacteria in broiler intestines. Based on these results it can be concluded that the effect of bandotan leaf extract inhibit the growth of bacteria in broiler intestine.Key words: broiler, bandotan leaf extract, caecum

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui titer antibodi pada serum ayam kampung (Gallus domesticus) terhadap virus Newcastle disease (ND). Sampel penelitian adalah serum ayam kampung yang diperoleh di beberapa pasar tradisional Banda Aceh. Parameter yang diamati dalam penelitian ini adalah titer antibodi serum ayam kampung dari uji hemaglutinasi inhibisi (HI) dengan memperhatikan endapan eritrosit. Data hasil pengamatan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 120 sampel yang diambil di beberapa pasar tradisional di kota Banda Aceh hanya 15 sampel (12,5%) menunjukkan protektif sedangkan 105 sampel (87,5%) tidak protektif. Tingkat proteksi ayam terhadap virus ND di pasar tradisional di kota Banda Aceh tergolong sangat rendah.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the quality of eggs from Farm, distributors and retail stores. The sample used is 66 eggs with details taken randomly at the farm is 9 eggs, distributors is 27 eggs and retail stores is 30 eggs. The observed egg quality is the value of Haugh unit, Yolk Index and Albumin Index. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the average Haugh value of egg units in farms, distributors and retail stores were 91, 72 and 7. The Yolk Index values for eggs in farms, distributors and retail stores were 0.45, 0.35. and 0.36. Meanwhile, the albumin index of eggs in farms, distributors and retail stores was 0.074, 0.050 and 0.046. Egg quality in farms, distributors and retail stores is in the category (grade) AA (HU value 72) and A (HU value 60-72). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the quality of eggs traded in Banda Aceh and its surroundings is very good (included in the AA and A grade categories).

Abstract

This research was done to determine albumin and globulin levels of Sumatran elephants’ blood at the Elephant Conservation Center (ECC) of Saree, Aceh Besar. In this study blood samples were collected from 6 Sumatran elephants at the ECC. The levels of albumin and globulin were determined spectrophotometrically. The data obtained were analyzed by t-test. The results showed that the average levels of albumin and the globulin of Sumatran elephants were 4, 25±0, 31 g/dL and 2, 33±0, 62 g/dL. Blood albumin and globulin levels of male Sumatran elephants were 4.23±0.05 g/dL and 2.36±0.77 g/dL, respectively; and those of female Sumatran elephants were 4.16±0.49 g/dL and 2.30±0.60 g/dL, respectively. The results of data analysis using t-test showed that blood levels of albumin or globulin of male and female Sumatran elephants were not significantly different (P 0.05). In conclusion, in the Sumatran elephants, blood albumin and globulin levels were not influenced by sex.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the immersion effect of broiler carcasses in 3% citric acid, 3% acetic acid, and combination of citric acid and acetic acid with concentration of 1.5% each on the total plate count of bacteria E. coli. Eight broilers carcasses (dissected into 2 parts) were divided into 4 treatment groups with 2 times repetition and 3 times observation at 0, 4, and 8 hours after dipped. The control treatment (K0) without dipped into acid solution. Broiler carcasses in the first (K1), second (K2), and the third (K3) treatments were dipped into 3% acetic acid, 3% citric acid, and combination of 1.5% acetic acid and 1.5% citric acid respectively. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance. The average of E. coli count in K0 at 0, 4, and 8 hours post dipping were 5.2±0.061, 6.8±0.99, and 7.0±0.107 log 10 cfu/g of chicken meat respectively. In similar observation time with K0, the average of total E. coli count were 5.5±0.373, 6.0±0.023, and 6.0±0.242 log 10 cfu/g of chicken meat in K1, 5.3±0.166, 6.0±0.143, and 6.0±0.084 log 10 cfu/g of chicken meat in K2, 5.7±0.041, 5.9±0.92, and 5.8±0.058 log 10 cfu/g of chicken meat in K3 at 0,4, and 8 hours post dipping respectively. Statistical analysis showed that the immersion of broiler carcass in acetic acid and citric acid solution were significantly (P 0.05) decrease the number of E. coli. There were interaction between immersion of broiler carcass in organic acids and observation time which significantly decrease the number of E. coli (p 0.05). In conclusion, the immersion of carcass chicken in 3 % acetic acid, 3% citric acid, and their combination reduce the amount of E. coli. Key words: chicken carcass , citric acid 3%, acetic acid 3% , Escherichia coli

Abstract

The aims of this research was to find out the healing process of second degree burn in rats (Rattus norvegicus) using ambarella leaf (Spondias dulcis F.) and vaselin on histopathologically. The research consisted of 4 treatment groups and 3 rats each, P1(double distilled water), P2 (ambarella leaf + double distilled water), P3 (vaselin), and P4 (ambarella leaf + vaselin). Treatment was done twice a day for 21 days. The research parameters are inflammatory reactions and distribution of collagen tissue. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that on day 7, P1 and P3 many infiltration of inflammatory cells, hemorrhage and edema, on P2 and P4 here more infiltration of inflammatory cells, hemorrhage and edema. On the day 14th of many inflammatory cell infiltration, collagen tissue diffuse very thin on were described P1 and P3, and visible presence of new blood vessels was found on P4. On day 21th infiltration of inflammatory cells still present on (P1), there were a lot of new blood vessels on P2, there has been a process of epithelialization (P3), epidermis formed and collagen tissue spread very densely on P4. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that administration of ambarella leaf and vaselin can speed up the healing process of burns in rats compared with other treatments.Key words: ambarella leaf, burn, vaselin
