Abstract

This study aims to identify the predominant parenting styles among Grade VI students at MI Darul Hikmah Full Day School in Cirebon City, Indonesia. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach, the research utilized a structured questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument, distributed to 34 Grade VI students enrolled at the institution. The findings revealed that most respondents (59%) perceived their parental upbringing to align with the "good" category, characterized by supportive and responsive parenting practices. Meanwhile, 41% of students reported parenting styles falling within the "moderate" category, suggesting room for improvement in consistency or emotional engagement. These results underscore the prevalence of positive parenting approaches within the sample while highlighting opportunities for further enhancement. The implications of this study emphasize the need for collaborative efforts between parents and educational institutions to reinforce constructive parenting strategies, particularly in a Full Day School environment where extended school hours necessitate holistic child development support. Recommendations include targeted parental workshops, school-led guidance programs, and ongoing assessments to foster adaptive parenting practices that align with students' academic, social, and emotional needs. This research contributes to the broader discourse on family-school partnerships in optimizing student well-being and developmental outcomes.

Abstract

Low numeracy skills remain a persistent challenge in primary education, particularly in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), where students often struggle with basic arithmetic operations such as addition. This study aims to develop Extreme Addition Mathematics media to enhance the counting skills of fourth-grade Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) students and evaluate its effectiveness. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method, guided by the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The media was validated by material, media, and learning experts using Aiken's V coefficient, with results of 0.87 (material), 0.91 (media), and 0.89 (learning), all exceeding the 0.75 threshold, confirming its validity. Implementation involved 57 students divided into an experimental group (n=29) using the media and a control group (n=28) with conventional methods. Pretest and posttest data were analysed using Shapiro-Wilk normality tests, Levene's homogeneity test, and independent t-tests. The experimental group showed a significant improvement, with posttest scores increasing from 40.72 to 86.90, compared to the control group's 49.40 to 72.79. The N-Gain score for the experimental group was 77.4%, categorised as "effective." Findings indicate that gamified, interactive media significantly enhance students' engagement and mastery of addition operations. The study concludes that Extreme Addition Mathematics is a practical and effective tool for improving numeracy skills, aligning with constructivist principles and addressing challenges in conventional teaching methods. Recommendations include expanding the media for other mathematical operations and adapting it to digital platforms for broader applicability.

Abstract

Education in the 21st century requires students to master higher-order thinking and communication skills to navigate increasingly complex global challenges. In Indonesian primary education, these competencies are emphasized in the Merdeka Curriculum but remain underdeveloped in practice. This study explores the challenges and pedagogical strategies for enhancing questioning and communication skills in elementary science learning. Employing a descriptive qualitative design with a multi-class case study approach, the research was conducted at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Swasta Nurul Hidayah, Jambi City, involving 24 students and four science teachers purposively selected to represent diverse achievement levels. Data were collected through structured observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model with triangulation for validity. The analysis revealed that students’ questioning and communication skills remain basic, constrained by psychological (low self-confidence), pedagogical (teacher-centered instruction), and structural (limited reflective time) factors. Three integrated strategies were identified: (1) question scaffolding to guide students in formulating meaningful questions; (2) dialogic learning environments to encourage open discussion; and (3) authentic assessment and reflective feedback to value students’ inquiry and communication efforts. Fostering these competencies requires a synergistic framework of emotional support, pedagogical scaffolding, and curriculum redesign that strengthens critical thinking and scientific literacy in line with the principles of 21st-century and Merdeka Curriculum education.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a science learning design based on local wisdom in MI/SD Gunungkidul by utilising the uniqueness of local culture and natural resource wealth, such as traditional agricultural practices, natural resource management, and local community lifestyles. This research uses a qualitative approach involving 17 teachers as the main source to obtain in-depth data about their experiences, challenges, and needs in implementing local wisdom-based learning. With semi-structured interview instruments and data analysis through three stages data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion, the study is guided by three problem formulations: (1) how local wisdom-based science learning is implemented in schools, (2) why such a design is important in Gunungkidul, and (3) what its impacts are. These problems directly align with the research objectives, which are to explore current implementation practices, analyse the urgency and contextual relevance of integrating local wisdom into science education, and evaluate its potential impact on science literacy, cultural and environmental preservation, and student creativity. The findings show varying levels of implementation, with some schools beginning integration despite challenges such as limited facilities and teacher readiness. Overall, the local wisdom-based science learning approach makes lessons more meaningful and relevant to students' lives.

Abstract

Conventional learning practices are often ineffective in building values such as responsibility, honesty, cooperation, and discipline. Meanwhile, normative verbal moral approaches are also unable to touch on students' real experiences. Therefore, alternative learning media are needed that can integrate cognitive and affective learning simultaneously through a contextual and enjoyable approach. This research aims to develop game-based learning based on augmented reality integrated with character values as an alternative learning method that is more interactive, interesting, and easily accessible by teachers and students. The method used in this research is the ADDIE development method (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). Integrated with NIS, this research was conducted in elementary schools in the Cirebon district. The instruments include validation sheets, observations, literacy and problem-solving tests, and character value measurement questionnaires. The results showed that the augmented reality-based educational game developed met the eligibility criteria in terms of learning content, visual appearance, and integrity of character values. This can be seen from the results of literacy skills obtained, showing that the student's pretest score was 60, which increased to 85 in the posttest, an increase of 41.7%. And problem-solving skills were obtained by students' pretest score of 55, which increased to 80 in the posttest, with a rise of 45.5%. This study presents a novel integration of augmented reality with game-based learning and character Education at the elementary level, which has rarely been explored in previous research. Theoretically, it contributes to the intersection of digital pedagogy and frameworks for character development. Practically, it offers an innovative and empirically tested learning medium that supports literacy and problem-solving enhancement while fostering values such as responsibility, cooperation, and discipline. Thus, the results of game-based learning based on augmented reality prove that this medium is efficacious in improving students' literacy and problem-solving skills while strengthening the character of discipline, responsibility, and cooperation.

Abstract

Gender equality in physical education remains a critical issue, particularly in the Department of Islamic Elementary School Teacher Education (PGMI) at the State Institute of Islamic Studies of Bone, where social constructs and gender stereotypes often hinder female students’ active participation in physical activities. This study aims to explore the experiences, views, and perceptions of students and lecturers regarding gender equality practices in physical education, and how inclusive learning spaces can dismantle symbolic domination and foster social transformation. This qualitative study employed a phenomenological design, involving 10 female students and two lecturers as key participants. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and curriculum document analysis. The findings indicate that female students demonstrated increased self-confidence, active engagement, and a shift in perceptions toward sports after participating in inclusive, gender responsive learning. The learning environment also promoted collaborative interactions between male and female students, supported by the strategic role of lecturers as facilitators of justice-based values. In the context of Islamic higher education institutions, this approach successfully integrates religious values with gender equality principles in a harmonious way. The study concludes that physical education plays a strategic role as a medium for social transformation, not only enhancing physical fitness but also fostering critical awareness of equity and social justice. This study implies that gender-equitable physical education training in PGMI contributes to shaping inclusive future teachers who promote equal participation in primary classrooms.

Abstract

Literacy plays a pivotal role in shaping students’ intellectual, moral, and creative capacities, especially within Islamic elementary education. However, many students in Indonesia still struggle to connect reading and writing literacy with creative expression. This study explores teachers’ strategies in strengthening reading and writing literacy to enhance students’ creative writing skills at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 4 Demak. Using a qualitative field research design involving observations, interviews, and documentation, the findings reveal that literacy programs at MIN 4 Demak are implemented holistically, that is, integrated across daily routines, classroom instruction, and extracurricular activities. These include morning reading habituation (Gerakan Literasi Madrasah), guided writing sessions, Qur’an-based reflection journals, and creative literacy events such as “Literacy Fridays” and “Writing Corners.” Teachers function as facilitators by modeling expressive reading, scaffolding students’ ideas during brainstorming, and guiding them to express Islamic moral values through stories, poems, and reflective essays. Through these activities, students not only develop linguistic and creative abilities but also strengthen their moral awareness and self-confidence. The results suggest that integrating literacy practices with Islamic educational values fosters a sustainable literacy culture one that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and character development among elementary students.
