Abstract

The phenomenon of bronchopneumonia as one of the lower respiratory tract infectious diseases is characterized by inflammation of the bronchi and alveoli caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Bronchopneumonia may cause increased sputum production, shortness of breath, fever, impaired gas exchange, and respiratory failure complications. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2023, bronchopneumonia as part of pneumonia caused approximately 2.6 million deaths worldwide each year. In Indonesia, the number of bronchopneumonia cases reached 446,437 cases in 2022. In West Sumatra Province, bronchopneumonia cases were recorded at 3,546 cases in 2021 and increased to 5,591 cases in 2022. Based on data from RSUD Prof. H. M. Yamin, S.H Pariaman, there were 44 bronchopneumonia cases in 2025. This study aimed to provide medical surgical nursing care for patients with bronchopneumonia in the Pulmonary Ward of RSUD Prof. H. M. Yamin, S.H Pariaman. The subject of this case study was Mrs. Z. The method used was direct observation to identify the patient’s problems. Nursing diagnoses found were ineffective airway clearance, ineffective breathing pattern, hyperthermia, and risk of infection. After five days of implementation, most nursing problems were resolved and the patient’s condition improved. Patients and families are advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle, comply with treatment, and avoid recurrence risk factors.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive impairment of kidney function characterized by the inability of the body to maintain metabolic, fluid, and electrolyte balance, resulting in increased blood urea levels. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported 254,028 deaths caused by CKD in 2020 and more than 843.6 million global cases in 2021. According to the Indonesia Health Survey (SKI, 2023), the prevalence of CKD in Indonesia reached 0.18% or approximately 638,178 individuals. This study aimed to implement nursing care for CKD patients at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang using a case study method conducted in the IW Wing B ward from February 2–6, 2025. The assessment of Mrs. M identified four nursing diagnoses, namely hypervolemia, ineffective breathing pattern, decreased cardiac output, and impaired urinary elimination. Interventions included hypervolemia management, airway management, cardiac care, and urinary elimination management. Evaluation results showed reduced hypervolemia and impaired urinary elimination, while breathing patterns and cardiac output improved. Systematic nursing care was shown to reduce symptoms, prevent complications, and improve patients’ quality of life.

Abstract

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2023, an estimated 141.8 million (22.3%) children under five worldwide were affected by stunting. Indonesia ranks as the third country with the highest prevalence of stunting in Southeast Asia, with a prevalence rate of 36.4%. The purpose of this study was to provide family nursing care for a patient with stunting in the working area of Padusunan Community Health Center. Stunting is a health problem characterized by impaired physical growth in children due to chronic malnutrition, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life, from pregnancy until the child reaches two years of age. The method used was the nursing process, consisting of assessment, nursing diagnosis, nursing intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The research design employed was descriptive with a case study approach. The results of the study conducted from March 5, 2026, to March 10, 2026, identified three nursing diagnoses: Nutritional Deficit in Child A related to the family's inability to recognize health problems, as evidenced by Mrs. N's statement that the child’s weight was difficult to increase and that the child had a poor appetite; Knowledge Deficit related to inadequate exposure to information, as evidenced by Mrs. N's statement that she lacked creativity in preparing meal menus for her child; and Ineffective Health Maintenance related to the inability to care for a sick family member. The implementation results showed an improvement in family knowledge regarding stunting and increased involvement in patient care. The interventions provided included nutrition management, health education, and education on health-promoting behaviors. It can be concluded that comprehensive family nursing care is able to improve family independence in caring for family members with stunting. The completion of nursing care is expected to increase knowledge and awareness regarding the fulfillment of balanced nutritional needs.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that commonly occurs in Indonesia and contributes to increased morbidity and mortality rates. Hypertension is often referred to as a silent killer because many sufferers are unaware of their condition until complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure occur. Based on data from the Naras Community Health Center, hypertension ranked second among the ten most common diseases, with 1,363 cases reported in 2025. This condition indicates that hypertension remains a health problem requiring special attention. This study aimed to implement family nursing care for families with hypertension in the working area of the Naras Community Health Center in 2026. The research method used was a case study with a family nursing process approach, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Based on the results of the study conducted by the researcher from February 28 to March 6, 2026, in the working area of the Naras Community Health Center on Mrs. S’s family, it was found that the family lacked understanding regarding hypertension, its causes, signs and symptoms, home care, and the importance of routine blood pressure monitoring. The nursing problems identified were risk-prone behavior, noncompliance, and pain. The interventions provided included health education, recommendations for a low-salt diet, regular physical activity, medication adherence, and utilization of health services. After the nursing interventions were implemented, the family showed increased knowledge, was able to care for family members with hypertension, became more compliant with health check-ups, and experienced reduced pain complaints. It can be concluded that family nursing care is effective in helping control hypertension and prevent complications.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is one of the ten leading causes of death worldwide. Globally, there are an estimated 10.8 million cases of pulmonary tuberculosis in 2023. Based on the 2022 Health Profile in Indonesia, the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis is 368,337 cases. At the provincial level, West Sumatra recorded 3,093 cases of tuberculosis in 2023, while Pariaman City recorded 45 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis in 2025. Locally, Prof. Muhammad Yamin, SH, Pariaman Regional General Hospital experienced a decrease in the number of cases from 69 cases in 2024 to 45 cases in 2025. This study aims to describe nursing care for Mrs. I, 66 years old, who was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. The case study method was used through five stages of the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Nursing problems found included ineffective airway clearance, ineffective breathing patterns, diarrhea, nutritional deficits, disturbed sleep patterns, and activity intolerance. Nursing interventions carried out included oxygen administration, effective cough education, nutritional and fluid monitoring, and support for independence in daily activities. The evaluation showed significant clinical improvement. The results of this study emphasize the importance of comprehensive and continuous nursing care in the management of pulmonary tuberculosis. Patients are advised to adhere to the recommended treatment regimen, maintain personal and environmental hygiene, avoid smoking, consume nutritious foods, and undergo regular check-ups at healthcare facilities to optimize the healing process and prevent transmission to others

Abstract

Children classified as slow learners-with IQ scores from 70-89 require comprehensive, multi-domain developmental assessment and intervention. This qualitative single-case study describes the cognitive-perceptual, social-emotional, and affective-motivational development profiles of a 12-year-old male subject (A) receiving individualized special needs children’s facility. Data were gathered through five structured observation sessions, semi-structured alloanamnesis interviews with parents and a mentor teacher, one home-visit observation, and autoanamnesis session with the subject. Thematic analysis following the Miles and Huberman model was applied. Findings reveal that subject (A) demonstrates academic competencies consistent with early concrete-operational functioning-below chronological expectations-including difficulties in alphabetic sequencing, reading closed-syllable words (KV-KVK patterns), and tens-place numeracy. Socially, the subject withdraws in unfamiliar settings and avoids peer interaction due to pervasive low self-confidence. Affectively, passive learning behaviors, complete dependence on external validation, and low intrinsic motivation dominate. These findings are interpreted through Piaget’s (1952) cognitive development theory, Bandura’s (1997) social learning and self-efficacy framework, and Erikson’s (1963) Industry vs Inferiority stage. Environmental contributors including prenatal stress exposure, inconsistent parental engagement with the intervention program, and an absence of early motor therapy-are identified as significant moderators. Targeted stimulation programs encompassing cognitive scaffolding, social-emotional competency building,, and systematic positive reinforcement are proposed.
