Abstract

This article explores the conflict of private international law in determining child custody following cross-border divorces, focusing on a case study in Indonesia. In an increasingly globalized world, marriages and divorces often involve parties from different nationalities, leading to legal complexities in custody disputes. The aim of this study is to analyze the challenges that arise in the application of Indonesian law when adjudicating custody rights in cross-border divorce cases, particularly when different legal systems are involved. Using a qualitative research method, this study employs a literature review and library research to examine relevant legal frameworks, including Indonesian domestic laws, international treaties, and comparative legal principles. The findings suggest that while Indonesia has made strides in addressing cross-border custody issues, significant challenges remain due to the lack of comprehensive private international law regulations. Additionally, conflicts arise when attempting to reconcile Indonesian legal principles with international norms, such as those related to the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction. This research contributes to the ongoing discussion on improving legal mechanisms for cross-border custody disputes and emphasizes the importance of harmonizing domestic laws with international legal standards to ensure the best interests of the child are upheld.

Abstract

This paper examines the pivotal role of women in the ministry of Jesus Christ, going beyond the often limited historical representation. A comprehensive analysis of the Gospel texts reveals the diverse roles women played, ranging from financial support and direct service to Jesus—such as Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Salome, who remained faithfully by His side until His death and even participated in His burial—to their role as primary witnesses to His resurrection. These women were not merely passive recipients of Jesus' teachings but were active agents in the spread of the Gospel and the formation of the early Christian community. This study particularly highlights their courage, loyalty, and steadfast faith amidst the patriarchal culture of their time, demonstrating their significant contributions, which have often been overlooked in traditional narratives. Furthermore, the paper explores the theological implications of these women's roles, challenging interpretations that marginalize or underestimate their active participation in Jesus' life and ministry. Thus, this research calls for a more inclusive and balanced interpretation of the Gospel texts to rightly acknowledge the fundamental contributions of women in shaping the history and development of Christianity. It also encourages the continued participation of women in serving God today.

Abstract

Differences in ethnicity, culture, language, and religion are natural characteristics of any society. However, when these differences are not managed wisely, they can become sources of social friction. Disputes, conflicts, and even wars have often emerged from a failure to recognize and appreciate the richness that diversity brings. This lack of understanding stems from an inability to respect differences, leading to tension and division. One critical factor in preventing such conflicts is the cultivation of a proper understanding of religion, as religion significantly influences human behavior and decision-making in daily life. A correct religious understanding provides individuals with the moral compass needed to navigate complex social interactions, helping to foster mutual respect and tolerance. Therefore, it is essential that both religious understanding and practice be approached with moderation. This concept, often referred to as "wasathiyah" in Islam, emphasizes the importance of balance and avoiding extremism in any form. Wasathiyah encourages a middle path that embraces dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation between people of different backgrounds. By adopting a moderate stance in religious practice, individuals can contribute to a society that is more peaceful, tolerant, and harmonious. The benefits are far-reaching, as this approach promotes coexistence and reduces the likelihood of misunderstanding and conflict. Instead of viewing differences as threats, moderation allows people to see them as opportunities for growth and unity. Ultimately, a society built on the principles of moderation and mutual respect is one where diversity is celebrated, not feared.

Abstract

The enforcement of criminal law on consumer rights for victims of hazardous cosmetics in the jurisdiction of the Riau Police, particularly in Pekanbaru City, under Law Number 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection, faces significant challenges. Article 4 of the Consumer Protection Law grants consumers the right to comfort, security, and safety in using products, along with accurate, clear, and honest information. However, hazardous cosmetics containing substances like mercury and hydroquinone continue to circulate freely, both in physical stores and online, indicating that law enforcement intended to protect consumers remains inadequate. Using a sociological legal approach, this research reveals a gap between the law and its implementation, as unsafe cosmetics are widely available, contradicting consumer rights as defined in the Consumer Protection Law. Key obstacles include low public awareness and participation, as many victims fail to report cases; limited inter-agency coordination, particularly with the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM); and restricted access to data on the distribution and sale of dangerous cosmetics, especially those sold online. To address these enforcement challenges, it is necessary to improve institutional coordination, create an online complaint platform for consumers to report cases directly and anonymously, strengthen legal evidence and investigative depth in cases involving hazardous cosmetics, and conduct regular market surveillance to prevent the distribution of illegal and harmful products. These measures are essential to bridging the gap between the legal framework and practical enforcement, ultimately ensuring better consumer protection against the risks posed by hazardous cosmetics.

Abstract

Students in early adulthood often face various emotional and social challenges. TikTok, a platform that allows users to share short video content, has become a popular medium for students to express their emotions. This study aims to examine differences in emotional expression between male and female students. Based on Ekman’s theory (2003), it is understood that several emotions are considered universal and are similarly recognized by individuals across different cultural backgrounds. These universal emotions include anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, and surprise. This study hypothesizes that (1) there is a difference in emotional expression between males and females; (2) there is no difference in emotional expression between males and females. A quantitative approach with a survey design was used, employing a comparative research method. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, and data were collected through questionnaires distributed to students aged 17–24 years in Padang City. The participants included 15 male and 39 female students. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. The results showed no significant difference in emotional expression between male and female TikTok users (p-value = 0.244 > 0.05). These findings are consistent with the research hypothesis.
