Abstract

A community-based tourism (CBT) approach has become an integral part of rural and sustainable tourism development strategies. However, CBT has some constraints on being sustainable due to some internal weaknesses and external concerns, including poor marketing competencies. As a top-down government initiative, Malaysian CBT homestay is blessed with numerous assistance to ensure its survival which in the other hand, creates over-reliance toward other parties. This lack of marketing expertise challenges homestay sustainability. This study examines the importance of community education in marketing activities as a lifelong learning towards sustainable tourism in Malaysia. Qualitative case study is employed to gain an extensive and in-depth explanation on homestay's marketing implementation and its issues. A semi-structured interview was taken to 9 homestay operators. This study employs a thematic data analysis to investigate the interview results. Research findings show that in majority, the community enjoys the comfort zone provided by government and travel agents, hence encourage the resistance for change. However, a few homestay demonstrates positive respond to involve lifelong learning through community education to support sustainable tourism. More importantly, partnership between various key stakeholders are the utmost important to ensure policy planning and to improve community education quality.

Abstract

This research explores the commitment of Indonesian educators to Continuous Professional Growth (CPG) and lifelong learning. With the rapidly changing educational landscape, educators must adapt to emerging pedagogical trends, harness new technologies, and lead both inside and outside the classroom. This study utilized a qualitative case study approach, encompassing semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, to deeply understand ten driving school educators' experiences, perceptions, and motivations regarding lifelong learning in Indonesia. Findings indicate educators' involvement in teacher selection, school development, and digital transformation. Their dedication to innovation, feedback, collaboration, and skill development, especially in technology and instructional approaches, underscores their commitment to continuous growth. The study emphasizes the multifaceted nature of educators' lifelong learning journeys and the importance of adaptability, collaboration, and technology in modern education.

Abstract

The teacher's lecture and question-and-answer method do not provide meaningful engagement for students, necessitating the adoption of different learning strategies. This study aims to determine the effect of the Modelling the Way strategy, assisted by Canva media, on 4th-grade students' Islamic education learning outcomes. This research employed a quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental Design (non-design) in the form of a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population in this study consisted of fourth-grade students at SDN 2 Gulang Mejobo Kudus, with a total sample of 31 students. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and tests. The results of the t-test show that t_count = 5.380 > t_table = 2.042, so Ha is accepted. The results indicate an effect of the Modelling the Way strategy on the fourth-grade students' Islamic education learning outcomes. The average pretest score was 63.71, and the average posttest score was 79.03. Therefore, there is a significant increase in posttest learning outcomes using the Modelling the Way strategy compared to the pretest.

Abstract

This study examines the commitment of vocational teacher education students at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in applying core character values. The global trend in teacher education links education and economic growth, emphasizing students' competence for the job market. However, teachers are also expected to address social and moral cohesion in the younger generation. The research involved 177 third- and fourth-year students at FPTV UTHM Malaysia and an equal number at FT-UNY, utilizing a questionnaire based on core character values. The findings indicate moderate commitment levels (58.75%) among university students. UTHM students scored slightly higher (2.42) than UNY students (2.28). The study shows that character education for vocational teacher education students in both Indonesia and Malaysia has not reached optimal levels, emphasizing the need to investigate more effective character education models for future vocational teachers.

Abstract

Automated writing evaluation (AWE), which is the result of educational artificial intelligence technology, is a process of scoring and evaluating learners' written texts automatically. The current study examined the effects of using integrative AWE programs on honing academic writing instruction. It also assessed students' perceptions towards using these programs. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest two-group design was used. Test, questionnaire, focus group discussion, and teacher diary were used to collect data from 92 randomly selected participants. The experimental group students learned writing skills with Writerly and Google Docs in integration, but the control group students learned through the conventional paper and pencil feedback system. When the quantitative data were analyzed through independent samples T-test and descriptive statistics, the qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The findings revealed that using the integrated AWE programs honed academic writing instruction because there was a statistical difference between the experimental and control groups in their academic writing performance. Hence, students who learned using the integrated AWE programs honed their academic writing performance because they were able to produce essays that addressed task achievement, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy. However, students who learned through the conventional method were less effective in producing quality essays. Besides, the findings also discovered that the experimental group students had positive perceptions towards using the aforementioned AWE programs because they found the programs interesting, effective, goal-oriented, and supportive. Consequently, this study recommends researchers, curriculum designers, instructional material designers, teachers, and students pay due attention to integrated AWE programs.

Abstract

This research explores the influence of the principal's instructional leadership and teacher work commitment on teacher performance in Vocational High Schools in Padang City. This research aims to measure how much the two variables contribute to the effectiveness of teacher performance. Using descriptive quantitative methods, this research involved 133 teachers as samples. Regression analysis is used to analyze the relationship between variables. The research showed that the principal's instructional leadership contributed 7.8% to improving teacher performance, while work commitment contributed 22.5%. When these two variables were combined, they explained 23.1% of the variability in teacher performance. This research underlines the importance of effective instructional leadership and high work commitment in improving teacher performance. In addition, this research recommends that other factors that influence teacher performance, such as social support and school culture, be further explored in future research. In conclusion, these findings provide important insights for developing educational policies that support the role of principals as instructional leaders and motivate teachers' work commitment, which can ultimately improve overall educational outcomes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the development of anti-corruption education in Indonesia, through learning Citizenship Education based on Smart Mobile Civic media. Efforts to eradicate corruption are not only the responsibility of law enforcement agencies or the government, but also the responsibility of all components of the nation. Therefore, efforts to eradicate corruption must be carried out by involving all relevant stakeholders, namely the government, the private sector and the community. This research method uses a qualitative approach. The use of qualitative methods in research can produce a more comprehensive study of a phenomenon. The results of the study show that: Citizenship Education learning system has a very strategic role, to increase students' understanding of anti-corruption education. In this context of research, the students, as agents of corruption prevention, cannot be separated from the characteristics they possess, such as: Intellectuality, Youth Spirit, and Idealism. Student involvement in the anti-corruption movement can basically be divided into four areas: within the family, on campus, in the local community, and at the regional or national level. The digital era has had a tremendous impact on citizenship learning, such as through the application of Smart Mobile Civic media as a fun and not boring learning media for students so that they can explore more deeply about their knowledge and experiences.

Abstract

Teachers' job satisfaction has been studied for decades. However, there has been no study investigating the profile of Indonesian EFL teachers' job satisfaction. This study aimed to find out the profile of Indonesian EFL teachers' job satisfaction. A sample of 340 EFL secondary school teachers consisting of 272 females and 68 males, 299 teachers with the undergraduate degree and 41 teachers with the master's degree, 34 teachers with  1-5 years of teaching, 60 teachers with 6-10 years of teaching, 53 teachers with 11-20 years of teaching, and 38 teachers with more than 21 years of teaching  were involved in this study. The instrument utilized in this study was an adaptation of the instrument developed by Spector (1994) comprising pay, promotion, supervision, fringe benefits, contingent rewards, operating conditions, coworkers, nature of work, and communication and distributed to the teachers via google forms due to the pandemic situation. The data were then analyzed using the confirmatory factor analysis.  The findings revealed that four factors emerged in the teacher job satisfaction model, that is, salary, supervision, service condition, and . colleagues. The item loading factors in this model ranged from 0.28 to 0.80 and the acceptable fit indices were χ2 = 88.82; df = 48; χ2/df = 1.49; TLI = 0.93, RMSEA = 0.05; SRMR = 0.04.

Abstract

Developing learning management models is crucial to address the diverse needs of effective learning while promoting active participation, preventing discrimination, and safeguarding students' rights and responsibilities in line with their growth. This article aims to create a child-friendly school-based learning model for health and physical education in elementary schools and validate it through expert assessments. Following Brog and Gall's model development approach, data collection involved assessment questionnaires administered to various stakeholders, including school supervisors, principals, teachers, students, and committees. The findings underscore the importance of incorporating diverse learning methods, adequate infrastructure, gender sensitivity, and meaningful learning experiences into the model. The three sequential stages' assessment results demonstrate the proposed model's high feasibility, scoring consistently high across stages. Referred to as a model, this innovative model showcases significant promise, suggesting further refinement to ensure its efficacy in addressing multifaceted learning requirements, fostering inclusive participation, and upholding students' rights and obligations per their developmental stage. This study highlights the need for evolving learning management models to cater to diverse educational needs effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the application of two different learning models (Sport Education and Traditional Teaching) by pre-service teachers on the empowerment and self-confidence of students in physical education classes at secondary schools. The research design used was a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest. The research sample was 429 high school students involving 8 schools in Jakarta, Indonesia. The sample consisted of 220 girls and 209 boys aged between 15 to 18 years old. The instruments used were the Psychological Empowerment Instrument and the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2). The results show that the Sport Education learning model can significantly increase student's self-confidence and empowerment, while in the Traditional Teaching model student's self-confidence and empowerment did not have a significant increase. The results of this study prove that the Sport Education model is better than the Traditional Teaching model.
