Abstract

This article aimed to map the reference level description of the Arabic Language Proficiency Test in Indonesia with an adaptation based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In this context, the article focused on developing reference level descriptions to assess Arabic language proficiency in Indonesia. A qualitative approach was used through document analysis. Evaluation questions on the Ikhtibarat Maharah Lughah Arabiyah (Imalah) test were cariied out as the data source as well as the CEFR guiding concept issued by Council of Europe. This research was carried out according to the design, namely starting with collecting data in the form of documents related to the CEFR and Arabic language tests, then the data collected was reduced and presented in the form of tables, diagrams or narratives and at the end there were conclusions drawn. The findings of this study reinforced the research objectives by demonstrating that the test includes reference level descriptions that are international standards. This assisted in assessing and understanding the extent to which an individual has mastered the Arabic language. In other words, these findings confirmed that the implementation of international reference level descriptions in the test supports the achievement of the established research objectives, which was to assist in assessing the language proficiency of individuals in Arabic. By adopting the CEFR, this not only helped to measure language proficiency easier, but also facilitated a better understanding of the level of Arabic competency required for educational, employment or general communication purposes.

Abstract

A.Teeuw stated that human being have at least four paths to understanding reality and truth: religion, science, philosophy, and art. Literature is distinct from three other truths as art. Literature can go beyond dogma, science, and philosophy. Poets can continue to be creative and imaginative, offering unrestricted thinking as long as their language moves the reader's emotions in accordance with truth fiction. This article attempted moderation with the four indicators of religious moderation developed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia which based on Abu al-'Atahiyyah perspective about religious moderation which were extracted from his poetry anthology with the note-taking technique. Afterwards, it was analyzed with a pragmatic approach in literary studies. The findings of this study indicated that Abu al-‘Atahiyyah also discussed the religious moderation in terms of tolerance, nonviolence, and accommodating local culture. As a result, this article demonstrated that the concepts of truth can also be found in literary works.

Abstract

This research examines the Islamic obligation of fasting during the month of Ramadan as outlined in the Quran (Q 2:183-5). The author argues that many Islamic scholars have underestimated the importance and significance of this religious duty, instead focusing on the allowances and exemptions provided in the Quranic verses. Through a semantic analysis of the language and structure of Q 2:183-5, the paper contends that the Quran emphasizes fasting as a crucial act of worship that should not be taken lightly. The conditional sentence structure in the verses is interpreted as a rhetorical device to highlight the benefits of fasting, rather than merely providing relief or exceptions. Furthermore, the paper argues that the Quranic mandate for fasting was not novel, as it built upon pre-existing fasting traditions among earlier faith communities like Judaism, Christianity, and even ancient Greek and Buddhist practices. This suggests that the first recipients of the Quran would have understood fasting as a serious religious obligation. In conclusion, the research challenges the common scholarly view that the Quran provides extensive leniency regarding the Ramadan fast. Instead, it posits that the Quranic approach emphasizes the importance and wisdom behind this act of devotion, which Muslims should not underestimate or treat too lightly.

Abstract

This research was initiated by the apprehension experienced by students in qawa’id material tests and the lack of digital-based media, especially qawa’id assessments. The primary objectives of this study were to create an assessment tool based on Wordwall media for evaluating qawa’id material, to depict the assessment environment before and after the implementation of this media and to evaluate the feasibility and usability of the product. The data were collected through interviews with Arabic language teachers in MAN 2 Payakumbuh, 35 tenth grade students in the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, and questionnaires for expert validation and student responses. The findings of this study indicated that : 1). There was a noticeable contrast in the atmosphere of qawa’id test activities before and after the utilization of Wordwall media-based assessment tools, leading to a reduction in students’ apprehension. 2). After conducting a structured research stage, according to linguists and media experts, the product was considered feasible with a percentage of 80% and very feasible with 99% and 85%. 3). Teachers and students found the product to be highly practical, with an acceptance rate of 85.13%. The integration of Wordwall in the qawa’id assessment process served as a strategy to alleviate student apprehension during qawa’id assessments. Qawa’id assessment based on Wordwall media developed in this study was both feasible and practical to be implemented by Arabic language teachers for tenth-grade students in the second semester.

Abstract

This article presented the subtitles transparency from the Netflix series Baitu Tahir. Additionally, the implications of transparency were illustrated on dynamic equivalence. In this article, the Arabic and Indonesian subtitles were analyzed from the first episode, focusing on 569 data points using a descriptive qualitative comparative method. In this study, Venuti's theory identified translation techniques, while Nida's theory examined dynamic equivalence. The analysis revealed that foreignization (literal translation, transposition, and borrowing) and domestication (omission, transposition, addition, and adaptation) are both employed, with 68 instances of foreignization and 501 of domestication. The findings indicated that domestication is used more frequently to create a natural effect in Indonesian, the target language (TL). The balance of dynamic equivalence and transparency was crucial for ensuring subtitle accessibility while preserving cultural nuances. The study underscores the importance of strategic translation choices in subtitling, ultimately contributing to a better understanding of how foreign and domestic elements influence viewers' comprehension and the overall quality of translated content on global platforms like Netflix.

Abstract

This article presented the determine of characteristics of the jama' taksir patterns that appear most in the cartoon series and determine how to translate the jama' taksir into Indonesian. This is a qualitative descriptive research. The research data came from sentences or conversations containing the jama' taksir in the Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi cartoon series which consists of 15 episodes. Based on the research, the Jama' qillah pattern أفعال is the most frequently occurring pattern. In the jama' katsrah, the patterns فعول, فعال, فعلاء and أفعلاء often appear. Meanwhile, Shighat muntaha al-jumu' patterns that often appear are مفاعل, فعاليل, and فواعل. The emergence of the jama' taksir that applies to the isim tsulatsi; أفعال, فعول and فعال, are counted more than that, regardless of the genre of the text. It was influenced by the genre of the text. Jama' taksir in this cartoon series was translated into Indonesian with 5 forms, namely: 1) Reduplication, 2) Numeral followed by a singular word, 3) Indefinite numeral followed by a singular word, 4) Singular word preceded by a plural marker and 5) Singular word. The translation of the jama' taksir must follow the grammatical rules of the Indonesian language, for example, the jama' taksir cannot always be translated with repetition. If there is already a plural marker, the jama' taksir is simply translated with the singular form. The results of this study can be used by translators as knowledge when translating jama' taksir and can also be used as reference material in further studies.

Abstract

The differences in Arabic language proficiency in MAN 4 Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST) were attributed to students' diverse educational backgrounds and experiences. Students who received education in pesantren or boarding schools generally tend to exhibit better mastery of the Arabic language compared to those from MTs and SMP. This variability in proficiency posed a challenge for teachers in managing instruction and achieving the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (LOAC). This classroom action research employed the Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) method to enhance students’ skills. The outcomes of cycle 1 reveal the class average scores for each LO as follows: LO1: 95, LO2: 82, and LO3: 68.25. It was known that students had not met the LOAC for LO3, which requires a minimum score of 70. Cycle 2 entails adjustments to the TAI method by incorporating comic media, sequential imagery, and the implementation of a reward system. The evaluation results for LO3 in cycle 2 showcase significant progress, with all students achieving or surpassing the LOAC. The average score increased from 68.25 to 79. By implementing adaptations involving rewards, comic media, and serial imagery, the Team Assisted Individualization method proved effective in enhancing skills of Grade X students at MAN 4 Hulu Sungai Tengah.
