Abstract

A collegial management model was used in the implementation of the Child-Friendly School (CFS) policy at MIN 1 Mataram in developing character education in the Independent Curriculum, which has implications for Arabic learning management. This article presented the discover and analysis of the Arabic language learning management model in instilling character education for the Independent Curriculum at the Child-Friendly School. A qualitative approach was used with a case study method, utilizing Miles and Huberman's data analysis techniques. The analysis process began with data condensation, which involves reducing information obtained from interviews, observations, and document analyses to filter relevant data. Next, data presentation was carried out by providing information in the form of descriptive narratives that illustrate the management of Arabic language learning. Finally, conclusions were drawn by identifying patterns, themes, and relationships among the data to understand the management model in character education. The finding showed that the CFS Arabic learning management model in instilling character education for the Independent Curriculum at MIN 1 Mataram used the Deming Cycle Model PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act), integrating the Plan, Do, and Check stages with the CFS principles. In the plan stage, teachers design character-based ATPs (syllabus) and Teaching Modules (Lesson Plan), collaborate in planning, and adapt teaching materials to student needs. The Do stage involves implementing the module with a differentiated approach and learning methods that emphasize character. In Check, evaluation involves principals, teachers, and students, ensuring learning effectiveness and positive perceptions of Arabic. This process supports continuous improvement in child-friendly teaching.

Abstract

A phenomenological approach was used to examine the role of female academic leadership in managing and developing Arabic Language Education programs at higher education institutions or universities in Lampung, Indonesia. It aimed to analyze female faculty members' perceptions of their leadership roles and their contributions to Arabic Language Education. Despite an increasing number of women in academic leadership, their influence in specialized fields like Arabic Language Education remains underrepresented. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with female faculty leaders at four universities, participatory observations within academic departments, and document analysis, including institutional policies, curricula, and meeting records. The interviews explored leadership roles, challenges, strategies, and their impact on educational development, while observations captured decision-making processes and interactions. This article revealed the distinctive leadership strategies of female faculty members, highlighting their ability to shape inclusive, gender-equitable educational policies and practices. Their leadership is characterized by decisiveness and strong commitment to student success, despite facing professional-personal challenges and limited institutional support. It was implied that institutions should provide more targeted support for female leaders through leadership training, policies promoting work-life balance, and the removal of structural gender barriers, which would enhance their leadership potential and improve Arabic Language Education. The significance of this research lied in its contribution to understanding how female leadership could influence academic development in male-dominated fields and how supportive policies could create a more inclusive academic environment. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of female leadership in various academic fields and regions.

Abstract

This article presents the analysis of Aiman Amin Abdul Ghani's views on the reformulation of Nahwu (Arabic grammar) for non-native speakers. The focus of this analysis included how Aiman Amin Abdul Ghani developed a simplified Nahwu teaching method while retaining essential grammatical rules of the Arabic language. The complexity of Nahwu often poses challenges for Arabic learners without an Arabic background, and understanding Abdul Ghani's approach was expected to provide an effective pedagogical solution. Data sources for this study included direct interviews with Aiman Amin Abdul Ghani, in-depth analysis of his works such as An-Nahwu Al-Kafi, Al-Kafi fi Sharh Matn Al-Ajurumiyyah, and An-Nahwu Bayna Yadayk, as well as a literature review of relevant Nahwu teaching methods. Data were analyzed with interpretive and hermeneutic methods, aiming to identify Aiman Amin Abdul Ghani's unique contributions to the reformulation of Nahwu. The findings showed that while Aiman Amin Abdul Ghani concurred with earlier scholars about the complexity of Nahwu, he proposed a different approach by retaining all grammatical rules but arranging them in a systematic and gradual way to facilitate comprehension for non-native speakers. This article contributes to the development of Nahwu pedagogy and emphasizes the importance of integrating religious values in Arabic grammar reform.

Abstract

Willingness to communicate in a second language (L2-WTC) is a crucial factor influencing the success of language learning, particularly in the context of Arabic learning. This article presented the extent to which Arabic language learners' willingness to communicate (WTC) in a second language impacts their achievement in acquiring language skills. A quantitative approach was used and the study surveyed 33 undergraduate Arabic learners at UIN Bandung in 2023. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring WTC levels and the factors influencing them, such as motivation, speaking anxiety, and opportunities for language practice. Statistical analysis was conducted to identify the relationship between WTC and the Arabic language proficiency learners. The results indicated that a high level of WTC is positively associated with better communicative competence. Additionally, learning motivation and environmental support significantly contribute to enhancing students' WTC. On the other hand, speaking anxiety and limited practice opportunities were identified as barriers to achieving optimal WTC. This article recommends that Arabic language instructors focus on teaching strategies that can enhance WTC, such as creating supportive environments and reducing speaking anxiety. Further research is suggested to explore the role of technology in supporting WTC and to investigate other individual factors such as cultural and social backgrounds.

Abstract

Developing effective Arabic speaking skills is essential in bilingual education, particularly for fostering fluency and confidence among students. This study aimed to address the gap in understanding how habit formation enhanced Arabic speaking proficiency. The objectives were: (1) to analyze the process of habit formation and its impact on students' speaking skills, (2) to evaluate proficiency levels achieved through habitual practices, and (3) to examine challenges students experienced in Arabic speaking and how these were addressed through targeted activities. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Semi-structured interviews with students, teachers, and administrators provided insights into habit formation, while observations in classroom activities allowed real-time assessment of speaking habits. Document analysis of school policies and progress reports offered a comprehensive view of strategies used to enhance Arabic speaking skills. The findings indicated that speaking habits were influenced by student motivation and bilingual policies, with routines and discipline monitoring in place. Most students demonstrated fluency, good vocabulary, and intonation, though some required improvement. Challenges such as fear of speaking and limited vocabulary were mitigated through activities like expression theater, lectures, and communicative methods. This article highlighted the importance of structured habit formation in improving Arabic speaking skills and suggested that prioritizing motivation and creative approaches could effectively help students overcome speaking challenges.

Abstract

This article explores the difference of tense and aspect use in Arabic academic writing by native and non-native speakers, driven by the challenges non-native speakers face in accurately conveying temporality in academic contexts. Improving non-native proficiency in Arabic grammar is crucial for enhancing the clarity of their research output. The study data consisted of academic articles written by both groups, specifically focusing on the results and discussion sections. Through qualitative analysis, findings revealed that native speakers demonstrate a strong grasp of grammar, with balanced use of past and present tenses and appropriate aspects, effectively expressing both completed and ongoing actions. In contrast, non-native speakers, particularly those from Indonesian backgrounds, tend to overuse the present tense and active voice, indicating difficulties in fully understanding Arabic’s temporal aspects. These results underscored the need for more intensive language instruction focused on mastering Arabic tense and aspect structures to improve non-native academic writing skills.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used in various applications that are able to translate Arabic and map its grammatical rules automatically. In the field of linguistics, especially Arabic, AI has the potential to help and speed up the translation process as well as complex grammar analysis. However, some linguistic aspects, such as sentence context, nuances of meaning, and i’rab interpretation, are still a challenge for AI systems. This article presents the analysis of AI's ability to punctuate, translate and map Arabic rules, and assess the extent to which it can replace humans. The research method used was a literature study with a content analysis approach. The objects studied were Arabic mahfudzhot selected based on the objectives with the book to analyze the AI with Kitab Nahwu Wadhih. This study found that the three AIs analyzed have their own advantages and disadvantages. ChatGPT has the largest percentage score in punctuation (harakat) and Arabic rule mapping (i’rab). As for the translation, Gemini has a superior percentage score compared to ChatGPT and Perplexity. Although AI is able to perform literal translation and structural analysis, the shortcomings were frequently showed as its results, so a human is needed to ensure accuracy and contextualized interpretation. These results showed that AI can serve as an effective tool, but cannot fully replace human expertise in Arabic linguistics.

Abstract

The Quran has its own characteristics compared to other books. There are many rhetorical and stylistic methods in the Al-Quran, but this research only discussed the book entitled “Ayatil Ahkam” as a guide to the Al-Quran because this book contains verses from the Quran that discuss certain topics, with selected legal verses which are divided into various subchapters in these themes. This research was a stylistic study of the Al-Quran, based on the theory of Abdul Azim al-Zarkani. The focus of this research was to analyze words that contain the form of command and prohibition, the researcher limited its scope. This article discussed the topic which was divided into three parts of “Ayat al-Ahkam”: the pillars of faith, the pillars of Islam, and worship. These three topics contain the stylistic language of the Quran in the form of commands and prohibitions. On the topic of the pillars of faith, there are 2 forms of imperative; In the pillars of Islam there are 5 forms of imperative; and in worship there are 22 forms of commands, 7 forms of prohibitions, in total there are 29 forms of imperatives and 7 forms of prohibitions both in verb and collective form. The stylistic analysis of the Qur'an at this stage focuses on the grammatical area.
