Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has precipitated adverse effects on the physical and mental health of young to middle-aged housewives residing in diverse rural and urban environments. Despite the widespread repercussions, there exists a paucity of research focused on elucidating the post-COVID health status of this specific demographic and the potential therapeutic merits associated with the integration of yogic practices into their daily lives. Objective: This study aims to scrutinize the post-Covid health status of young to middle-aged housewives and explore the potential advantages of integrating yogic practices within their routines. Methods: The study included sixty young to middle-aged housewives, thirty from rural and 30 from urban areas and categorised as rural controlled (n=15), rural experimental (n=15), urban controlled (n=15) and urban experimental (n=15).Both the experimental groups followed twelve weeks yogic practice protocol based on the Ministry of AYUSH's Common Yoga protocol. Results: Urban housewives exhibited a higher body mass index and a higher percentage of body fat. The yogic intervention had a significant effect on BMI (p = 0.02), muscular endurance (p = 0.002), and flexibility (p = 0.001) among rural young to middle-aged housewives. However, only improvement in flexibility (p = 0.0005) has been observed in urban young to middle-aged housewives. These outcomes highlight the potential positive impact of twelve-week yogic intervention in improving selected physical parameters of young to middle-aged housewives. Conclusion: The findings of the study emphasize the importance of yogic practice, into post-pandemic recovery efforts to promote optimal health and resilience in diverse populations. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term effects and sustainability of such interventions on overall health outcomes. Abstract

Background: The integration of Artificial Intelligence(AI) in dental care presents numerous benefits. However, fostering a proactive attitude is essential to ensure that these advancements lead to positive developments within dental practices. This study primarily focuses on examining the acceptance of AI technologies among dental professionals. Objective: The present study aims to explore the perceptions and acceptance of dentists towards the integration of AI in dentistry through Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a theoretical framework. Methods: By adopting descriptive research design, the study involved systematic collection of primary data from dental professionals to gain insights into their perceptions, attitudes, and acceptance of AI technologies in their professional environment. Using judgmental sampling, the researcher selected participants with first-hand experience relevant to the study’s topic. Consequently, a sample of 200 dental professionals who are actively using or planning to use AI technologies have been considered as prospective respondents. Results: The findings of the study reveal that dental professionals are aware about the usage of AI in dentistry and AI implementation is most notable in Orthodontics at 34%, followed by a significant use in Endodontics and Prosthodontics at 18.5% and 17.5% respectively. The results based on Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) indicate that the variable “perceived ease of use” positively influences dental professionals' attitudes towards its use in dentistry. Furthermore, the positive attitude has significantly influenced their behavioural intention to use, which in turn positively affected the actual usage of AI in dental practices. Conclusion: Though the overall impact of AI in dentistry is largely positive, it is notable that perceived usefulness did not significantly influence dentists' attitudes. This discrepancy indicates that the majority of dentists are aware of the benefits of integrating AI in dentistry, conflicting with expectations, the variable perceived usefulness did not have a significant impact on the attitudes of dental professionals towards AI.  Keywords: artificial intelligence; dentistry; diagnostics; technology acceptance model (TAM)

Abstract

Background: The role of fathers in childcare is increasingly recognized as essential to promoting family well-being, particularly through the provision of paternity leave policies that enable fathers to participate actively in caregiving during the early stages of a child's life. Empirical evidence suggests that paternal involvement has significant positive impacts on maternal health and child development. However, the implementation and effectiveness of paternity leave policies remain inconsistent across countries, with many failing to utilize them optimally to support familial health. Objective: This systematic review aims to evaluate the impact of paternity leave on maternal and child health by synthesizing findings from recent quantitative studies on policy implementation. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, EBSCOhost, and SpringerLink, targeting articles published between 2019 and 2024. Eligible studies included quantitative analyses assessing the effects of paternity leave on health outcomes among fathers, mothers, and children. Studies focusing solely on maternity leave or lacking relevant health outcomes were excluded. Two independent reviewers assessed the quality and relevance of the selected studies. Results: Of 712 articles identified, 15 met the inclusion criteria. Findings consistently showed that paternity leave was associated with reduced postpartum depression, prolonged breastfeeding duration, and improved child health outcomes, although variations in policy structure and implementation were noted. Conclusion: Paternity leave significantly contributes to maternal mental health, supports breastfeeding practices, and enhances child development. These findings underscore the necessity for more equitable and standardized paternity leave policies to support family health. Abstract

Background: The high prevalence of cancer has a direct impact on the quality of life and nutritional status of sufferers, mainly due to decreased appetite, metabolic disorders, and side effects of conventional therapies such as surgery, mastectomy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, or radiation therapy. These therapies, although aimed at inhibiting the growth and metastasis of cancer cells, often cause severe side effects that worsen the patient's condition. Therefore, it is important to explore alternative treatments that are effective and have minimal side effects. In this regard, biological sources, such as endophytic fungi kelakai, contain various active secondary metabolites that can inhibit cancer cell proliferation so that they can be part of a more public health-friendly supportive therapy approach. Objective: This study aims to prove the cytotoxic activity of the extract of endophytic fungi in kelakai against MCF-7 and Vero cells. Methods: Isolation, purification, and extraction process of secondary metabolites from the endophytic fungi isolates were carried out in the same manner as our previous research. The ethyl acetate extract of kelakai was obtained by extractive fermentation from pure isolates of the endophytic fungi in kelakai. Extraction was carried out by the fractionation method using the ethyl acetate solvent at a ratio of 1:1. Identification of chemical contents, including tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and steroids/terpenoids, was conducted qualitatively. Cytotoxic activity was tested by the MTT method. Results: From the isolate extraction, 2.4 g of ethyl acetate extract was produced. The identification of chemical contents showed positive results, meaning that the extract did contain tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, and saponins. The extract cytotoxicity test against MCF-7 and Vero cells yielded IC50 values of 517.3015 μg/ml and 1,074.9152 μg/ml, respectively. Conclusion: Based on these results, the extract of kelakai was not toxic to Vero cells, but it was toxic to MCF-7 cells. These findings suggest that the kelakai can be the basis for exploring local plants as a source of natural medicine while supporting the conservation of endemic plants to provide safer alternative therapies and improve public health. Abstract

Background: Landfills are recognized sources of emissions of various gaseous pollutants, including ammonia (NH3), which can cause odor nuisances. The Ganet Landfill in Tanjungpinang City is currently managed using an open dumping system due to operational limitations. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the dispersion profile of ammonia gas originating from the Ganet Landfill and to examine the differences in its dispersion patterns between the rainy and dry seasons. Methods: Ammonia concentration data were collected based on one-hour average measurements at ten monitoring locations: one at the landfill unloading area and nine at surrounding points, including residential zones and adjacent roadways. These data were utilized as input for dispersion modeling using AERMOD software. Meteorological data for the year 2023 were estimated using historical data from 2019 to 2023 to support the modeling process. Results: The monitoring results indicated that ammonia concentrations at all measured locations complied with the quality standard of <2 ppm. AERMOD modeling for one-hour average concentrations showed that the highest predicted concentration within the landfill area was 0.08 μg/Nm3. In both the rainy and dry seasons, the dispersion of ammonia was predominantly toward the southwest, aligning with the prevailing wind direction in the area. The seasonal comparison revealed a difference in ammonia concentrations at a 7 km radius from the landfill center: 0.001 μg/Nm3 during the rainy season and 0.002 μg/Nm3 during the dry season. Conclusion: The modeling results corroborated the monitoring findings, indicating that the highest concentrations of ammonia occur at locations closest to the landfill, particularly in the southwest direction, consistent with the dominant wind patterns.
