Abstract

The Sulawesi hornbill (Rhyticeros cassidix) is a Sulawesi endemic that is under threat of extinction. The Sulawesi Hornbill (Rhyticeros cassidix) inhabits the area of Popayato-Paguat, particularly the Marisa River Basin near Karangetang Village. The goal of this study is to establish the composition and structure of the vegetation around the Sulawesi Hornbill nesting habitat, particularly in the Marisa River Basin. The method employed was field observation, namely Vegetation Analysis. Direct observation was used to obtain data, with three stations established. The square survey collected data for tree level in a 20 × 20 m plot, pole level in a 10 x 10 m plot, stake level in a 5 x 5 m plot, and seedling level in a 2 x 2 m plot. The research findings revealed the composition of vegetation for the Sulawesi Hornbill's food in the Marisa Watershed Forest of Karangetang Village, which consists of 8 species of vegetation for the Sulawesi Hornbill, namely Aglaia argentea (Matowa), Livistona rotundifolia (Woka/Fan Palm), Madhuca pilphinenis (Flowering Wood/Camphor), Palaquium javense (Palapi), Ficus nervosa (Banyan), Dracontomelon dao (Dao), Pterospermum celebicum. The vegetation structure of the Sulawesi hornbill’s food in the Marisa River Basin Forest area of Karangetang Village shows the highest Important Value Index (IVI) for trees is Ficus nervosa (87.83%), for poles is Madhuca pilphinenis (85.45%), for stakes is Aglaia

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain T. spectrumgurskyae's daily activities in the vicinity of nests in the Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park. Ad libitum sampling, also known as direct observation, involves observing behavior and documenting all actions during the observation period using activity limitations (ethogram table). A week of data collecting was conducted from May 5–11, 2024, from 5:00–17:00. The study's findings showed that 56.4% of tarsiers' behavior near the nest was resting, whereas 23.1% was avoidance, 12.2% was self-cleaning, 8.0% was shade-seeking, and less than 1% was playing or eating. The findings demonstrated that resting and avoidance behavior dominated tarsier activity in the vicinity of the nest during observation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the kind of feed plant and Trigona sp. behavior in the buffer area of Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park. It is a quantitative descriptive method. Bee trips to feed trees were directly observed in order to identify the feed plants, and the results were confirmed through examination of the morphology of the pollen. Acetolysis is a technology used in the pollen extraction process. The study's findings identified six different plant species that provide food for Trigona sp. bees: Zinnia peruviana, Mangifera indica, Arachis hypogaea, Turnera subulata, and Antingonon leptopus. According to the results of the pollen identification process, eight plant species Antingonon leptopus, Cocos nucifera, Turnera ulmifolia, Turnera subulata, Chamaecrista calycioides, Arachis hypogaea, and Sida rhombifolia contributed as a source of feed. A. leptopus and C. nucifera are the two plants that receive the most visits, and 08.00–12.00 is the busiest hour.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a Canva-based e-module that is valid, practical, and effective in improving students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) on the topic of the human reproductive system. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects were 35 eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 01 Gorontalo Utara. Data were collected through expert validation questionnaires (content experts, media experts, and practitioners), student practicality questionnaires, and HOTS pre-test and post-test. Data analysis was conducted using percentage calculations to determine validity and practicality, and the N-Gain test to measure effectiveness. The results showed that the e-module achieved a very valid category with an average score of 86%, a very practical category with a percentage of 92.77%, and was effective in improving students’ HOTS with an N-Gain score of 0.411, which falls into the moderate category. Therefore, the Canva-based e-module is feasible to be used as a biologi learning material to support the enhancement of students’ higher order thinking skills. learning.

Abstract

The maleo bird (Macrocephalon maleo) is an endemic species of Sulawesi that holds both ecological and symbolic value for local communities. The distribution of the maleo is not only determined by ecological factors such as habitat availability, environmental suitability for nesting, climate change, and predator threats, but is also closely related to the socio-cultural dynamics of the surrounding communities. This article discusses the socio-cultural meaning of the maleo distribution map with an emphasis on a community-based conservation perspective. Through geospatial data and the exploration of local wisdom practices, it is evident that maleo distribution areas often intersect with the social spaces of indigenous communities, settlements, and symbols of collective identity. The presence of the maleo is regarded as part of cultural heritage passed down through generations, giving rise to traditional protection practices, such as restrictions on excessive egg collection or the designation of customary areas as conservation zones. The community-based perspective shows that conservation is not only focused on species preservation but also on strengthening the role of local communities as key actors. By integrating ecological distribution and socio-cultural values, maleo conservation efforts are expected to be more effective, adaptive, and sustainable. This article emphasizes that the success of maleo conservation largely depends on the recognition of the cultural values attached to its distribution as well as the active participation of communities in Sulawesi.
