Abstract

Zakat plays a strategic role in Islamic social finance as an instrument for poverty alleviation and social welfare; however, its contemporary distribution practices often remain concentrated on short-term charitable relief rather than long-term socio-economic empowerment, raising questions about its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). This study aims to examine conceptually the alignment between zakat allocation and selected SDG targets and to develop a normative impact assessment framework grounded in sharia objectives that reorients zakat evaluation toward sustainable empowerment outcomes. Using a qualitative-descriptive method based on a systematic literature review, the study synthesizes classical Islamic jurisprudential principles with contemporary development and Islamic social finance scholarship to critically assess prevailing zakat governance models. The findings indicate that zakat institutions predominantly rely on output-based indicators—such as the volume of funds distributed and the number of beneficiaries—while insufficiently addressing outcome-based dimensions related to economic independence, educational advancement, and social empowerment. In response, the article proposes an SDGs-oriented, capability-based assessment framework structured around three interrelated dimensions: economic capability, educational capability, and social empowerment capability. The study recommends integrating long-term capability indicators into zakat governance, strengthening outcome-focused monitoring systems, and redesigning allocation strategies to prioritize sustainable human development, thereby repositioning zakat as a transformative mechanism consistent with both sharia objectives and global development objectives.

Abstract

This Community Empowerment Program aims to enhance the well-being of the community around PT. Transportation Jakarta through the utilization of recycled paper. The initiative focuses on collaboration with Bank Sampah Kumala to create added value from the paper recycling process. Firstly, education is provided to the community and employees of PT. Transportation Jakarta about the importance of paper recycling and its positive environmental impact. Subsequently, a partnership is established with Bank Sampah Kumala to collect used paper from PT. Transportation Jakarta. The used paper is then processed through an environmentally friendly recycling process. This community service provides dual benefits. First, it reduces the amount of paper waste entering landfills, potentially mitigating negative environmental impacts. Second, the recycled paper products are sold, providing additional income to the community under the care of Bank Sampah Kumala. The increased income is expected to contribute positively to the well-being of the surrounding community. By involving PT. Transportation Jakarta and Bank Sampah Kumala, this community service creates synergy between the company, the community, and waste management institutions. Thus, the project not only generates a positive impact on paper waste management but also enhances community well-being through additional income

Abstract

The development of the Indonesian economy is inseparable from the rapid development of the banking sector, including Islamic banking. This will cause competition between banks to be even tighter to increase competitiveness in various sectors, including the level of profitability. However, the profitability of Sharia Commercial Banks is still low, which is below the standard set by Bank Indonesia of 1.5%. This study aims to describe the description of murabahah financing and profitability, as well as verify the effect of murabahah financing on profitability in sharia commercial banks in Indonesia. Profitability is measured using Return On Assets (ROA) and murabahah financing measured by net murabahah financing on the financial statements of each bank. The research method used is descriptive and verification method. The number of samples used in this study were 72 observational data from 9 Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia during the period 2010-2017. The results of this study murabahah financing have a positive and significant effect on the profitability of Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia

Abstract

Many Syariah banks in Indonesia are experiencing problematic financing because customers can not pay their debt installments, then the bank takes the settlement step by rescheduling the debt installment. In the process the bank charges a fee to the customer and this incriminates the customer. This research was conducted to analyze Islamic law against the cost charged to the customers in the process of rescheduling micro murabahah financing conducted by Bank Syariah Mandiri Branch Dumai Riau Province. This research uses data collection method with observation method, interview and library data, then analyzed by using inductive, deductive and comparative method. The results of this study conclude that the cost of micro-financing rescheduling in Bank Syariah Mandiri Branch Dumai Riau Province is not fully in accordance with Fatwa of Shariah and National Shari'ah Council Fatwa that has not been implemented, ie the bank charges the customer in rescheduling in addition to the actual cost required for the rescheduling process. And the authors provide suggestions for improving this by (1) providing the time period so that the customer can afford to pay, (2) the conversion of the financing contract of the murabahah to qard financing, and (3) rescheduling by charging real costs at no cost others.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates which social media platform, Instagram or TikTok, has a greater influence on increasing sales at Beeancashop Methodology/approach: A quantitative research method was employed with 100 respondents. Data was analyzed using SPSS Version 26 to measure the impact of both platforms on sales. Results/findings: The study revealed that Instagram and TikTok together contribute 90.1% to Beeancashop’s sales. While both platforms had a positive influence, TikTok showed a significant effect on sales, whereas Instagram alone did not. Conclusions: The study concludes that Instagram does not have a significant effect on sales at Beeancashop, while TikTok has a significant positive effect. Furthermore, Instagram and TikTok together significantly influence sales, indicating that social media content, particularly on TikTok, plays a key role in driving sales growth at Beeancashop. Limitations: The study only focused on two social media platforms and limited the sample size to 100 respondents, which may not fully represent a broader consumer base. Contribution: This research offers insights into how TikTok plays a more significant role than Instagram in driving sales for a local fashion brand like Beeancashop in Indonesia, emphasizing the need for a targeted social media strategy.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance in Indonesian Islamic banking and its implications for financial inclusion and socio-economic welfare. The increasing global focus on sustainable finance encourages Islamic banks to integrate ESG principles aligned with Sharia values and Maqasid al-Shariah. This study employs a qualitative approach using content analysis methods. Data were collected from academic journals, institutional reports, policy documents, and sustainability reports of Islamic banks. The findings indicate that ESG practices contribute significantly to expanding financial inclusion, particularly for underserved communities, while supporting socio-economic welfare through poverty reduction, equitable growth, and responsible financing. Financial inclusion acts as a mediating mechanism linking ESG initiatives to welfare improvement through economic empowerment. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative conceptual framework connecting ESG dimensions with Maqasid al-Shariah principles, thereby providing a holistic perspective on sustainable Islamic finance and ethical economic development

Abstract

This study examines how Living Islam strengthens sustainable profit growth in Islamic banks in Indonesia by shaping internal resource management and institutional responses to external economic dynamics. It addresses a key problem in Islamic banking scholarship: profitability has often been explained through financial ratios and macroeconomic variables, while limited attention has been given to how lived Islamic values become organizational capabilities that sustain performance. Using a qualitative interpretive documentary approach, this research analyzes publications, regulatory documents, annual reports, sustainability reports, corporate governance reports, and policy literature through content and thematic analysis. The findings show that Living Islam strengthens profit growth by institutionalizing Islamic values into everyday organizational practices, including ethical governance, value-driven leadership, trustworthy human resource management, prudent asset allocation, operational efficiency, customer-oriented services, and adaptive responses to macroeconomic uncertainty. Internal resources such as capital, human capital, assets, digital infrastructure, ATM networks, and branch offices become stronger organizational capabilities when guided by amānah, iḥsān, shūrā, ʿadl, and maṣlaḥah. External factors such as national economic expansion, oil price volatility, and exchange rate movements are also navigated sustainably when strategic decisions are grounded in Islamic ethical principles. Theoretically, this study extends the Resource-Based View by conceptualizing Living Islam as a value-based organizational capability that transforms resources into sustainable competitive advantage. Practically, it offers strategic insights for Islamic bank managers, regulators, and policymakers to strengthen governance, organizational culture, human resource development, and long-term competitiveness.
