Abstract

ABSTRACT Microplastics are plastics formed from large pieces of plastic that are then exposed to technical, thermal, and biological factors, causing them to breakdown into very small particles. Microplastic pollution in freshwater ecosystems had become an increasingly worrying environmental issue because it could disrupt aquatic biota, ecosystem stability, and human health. This research was a quantitative descriptive study that aimed to analyze the abundance of microplastics in the Bengawan Solo River in the Pucangsawit sub-district, Surakarta City. The research was conducted using purposive sampling at 10 stations with a total of 10 liters of water filtered using a 200 µm mesh, then decomposed using 30% H₂O₂ and identified using a binocular microscope. The results of the study found 199 microplastic particles with an abundance of 19.9 particles/L. The highest abundance being 43 particles/L and the lowest abundance was 7 particles/L. The types of microplastics were dominated by fibers, while microplastics in the form of fragments, films, pellets, and foam were also observed. Thus, it could be concluded that the Bengawan Solo River, particularly in the Pucangsawit Village area of Surakarta City, has been polluted by microplastics. Keywords : Microplastic, River, Abundance, Bengawan Solo.

Abstract

The increasing involvement of women in the workforce often places them in two roles at once, namely as workers and housewives. This condition has the potential to cause role conflict and increase mental workload which ultimately triggers work stress. This study is to analyze the relationship between role conflict and mental workload with stress in female teachers at Junior High School in Banjarsari District, Surakarta. This study applied a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional approach from February to March 2025. A total of 160 female teachers were respondents obtained using a proportional random technique from a total population of 273 people. Data collection through the WFCS, NASA-TL, OSI-R questionnaires were analyzed using the Chi-square test. The findings of this study indicate that the majority of respondents are in the moderate category for role conflict, mental workload, and work stress. Statistical analysis revealed a relationship between dual role conflict and job stress (p = 0.000) and between mental workload and job stress (p = 0.001). These findings indicate that increasing levels of dual role conflict and mental workload are associated with increasing levels of job stress in female teachers. Therefore, dual role conflict and mental workload are important factors influencing job stress in female teachers, necessitating better workload management and support for work-family role balance to reduce stress and improve teacher well-being.

Abstract

Diarrhea was a serious health problem for all age groups, especially among school-aged children. The Ministry of Health reported in 2025 that diarrhea ranked second among diseases with the highest potential for outbreaks in Indonesia, with 2,046,806 cases recorded as of mid-2025. The number of diarrhea cases in Surakarta increased from 7,209 cases in 2023 to 11,434 cases in 2024. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between student knowledge and personal hygiene behavior, as well as the incidence of diarrhea, among students of SMP Negeri Surakarta. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach and a proportional sampling technique, involving 184 respondents from grades VII, VIII, and IX. Data analysis was conducted using both univariate and bivariate analyses, including the Chi-Square test. The results indicated a significant relationship between student knowledge (p-value = 0.000) and personal hygiene behavior (p-value = 0.000) with the incidence of diarrhea among students of SMP Negeri Surakarta. This study concluded that personal hygiene knowledge and behavior had a significant impact on the incidence of diarrheal diseases. However, other factors also contributed to the spread of diarrheal diseases, including environmental sanitation, water hygiene, and disease transmission through canteen handlers. From this matter, it is expected that the school also plays an active role in continuous disease prevention efforts, both through theoretical education and practical implementation, as well as by improving supporting facilities to provide a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for students.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is one of the infectious diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito which is still endemic in Indonesia. DHF is still a priority disease that needs to be addressed by the Sukoharjo Health Office, especially in the Weru District. Based on the results of the Self-Reflection Survey (SMD) on residents of Dusun 1, Jatingarang Village, Kabupaten Sukoharjo with a total sample of 152 households, it was found that 63.2% or 92 households still had insufficient knowledge about DHF. This community service activity carried the theme Smart mother Education Program, which consisted of two main activities: increasing community knowledge about DHF and utilizing Abate to eradicate mosquito larvae as an effort to control DHF. The first activity involved providing education about DHF to 30 participants. The results of the analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000 (≤ 0.05), which means there is a significant difference in the participants' knowledge scores before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the delivery of the material. The frequency distribution shows an increase in the good knowledge category, from 18 people (60%) before education to 23 people (76.7%) after education. The second activity was the door-to-door distribution of Abate to 33 houses where mosquito larvae were positively found. In addition, the Larva Free Index (ABJ) in Dusun 1 increased from 80.2% to 94.8%, indicating an improvement in the success of mosquito larva control. This program effectively increased community knowledge about DHF and the use of Abate for mosquito larva eradication, and it successfully improved the Larva Free Index in Dusun 1, Jatingarang Village.
