Abstract

The traditional value system of estô, which emphasizes selfless service, solidarity, and respect within the blater Madura community, confronts challenges in its dissemination and adaptation in the digital era. This study aims to examine the influence of estô within the blater community, with a specific focus on the role of the kiai in guiding these values for Islamic communication and education. This study utilized a qualitative descriptive exploratory methodology, with data collected through interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings indicate that digital linguistics plays a significant role in expanding religious understanding; however, challenges persist in maintaining conformity with correct Islamic principles. The value system of estô can be preserved in the digital era through appropriate adaptation, where technology has the potential to enrich religious education when balanced with the judicious oversight of the kiai. This research contributes to the development of technology-based Islamic education and provides recommendations for integrating digital platforms with Islamic principles in pedagogical contexts.

Abstract

Abstract: Modernization of Islamic education institutions in Indonesia was preceded by  Muhammadiyah movement that rised the idea of extra public schools or so called "HIS met de Qur'an". This school model became the forerunner of modern Islamic education institutions in the 20th century. This school model is, then, disseminated to other reformist movements. ‘Plus’ Public Schools  has become a new phenomenon of modern educational institutions to acomodate the needs of Muslims to modern education. In addition to the developing Extra Public Schools, Muhammadiyah also developed "boarding School" (Dormitory) education system which was initially criticized to address the needs of the Muslim community towards education. Keywords: islamic education institutions, muhammadiyah, 20th century

Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to describe the implementation of Project-Based Assessment in measuring first-grade students’ understanding of Islamic values at SDIT Al Uswah Pamekasan. It used a qualitative case study approach based on the need for assessment methods that covered cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects in early-grade Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Data were collected through observation, teacher interviews, and documentation of student projects. The findings showed that project-based assessment enabled creative and practical expression of Islamic values, increased student participation, and indirectly involved parents. It also revealed value internalization more authentically than written tests and served as a strategic alternative for more comprehensive PAI assessment at the primary level. Keywords: Project-based evaluation, Islamic values, Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

Social conflicts in Madurese society are deeply intertwined with the value of ghengghu’ (honor) as a moral foundation for preserving human dignity and community relations. Consequently, dispute resolution mechanisms do not rely solely on formal judicial systems, but also actively involve informal figures such as blater, who hold strong social legitimacy. This study aims to analyze the role of blater as conflict mediators and to formulate a social reconciliation model grounded in local wisdom in Candi Village, Dungkek District, Sumenep Regency. The research site was selected purposively due to the persistent, significant social influence of blater figures in local community governance. Utilizing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with key informants (blater, village officials, community leaders, and disputing parties), participant observation, and documentary analysis of village mediation records. The findings indicate that the legitimacy of blater derives from moral integrity, social proximity, and the capacity to safeguard communal dignity. Blater function as dialogue facilitators and intermediaries connecting informal leadership with formal village bureaucratic institutions. This study formulates a conceptual model of "Ghengghu’-Based Social Mediation," which emphasizes the restoration of social dignity, the reconstruction of public trust, and hybrid leadership as a contextual and sustainable post-conflict resolution mechanism.

Abstract

The community service activity initiated by the community service team aims to apply geospatial technology to identify and visualize the potential of Tebul Timur Village, Pamekasan. Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) was an approach applied that involved the active participation of the community in collecting and validating data. The method included field surveys, data collection of coordinates, participatory discussions, and data processing using geospatial technology. The results show that geospatial technology can systematically integrate spatial and non-spatial data to represent the area's potential. The mapping results reveal that Tebul Timur Village has diverse potential in human resources, agriculture, and water availability. One standout potential is the durian fruit, unique to the Pegantenan District, mostly grown in residents' yards. Thus, geospatial technology can be used to support data-driven asset mapping.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Islamic comics as a visual literacy medium in strengthening character education and literacy culture among elementary school students in Pamekasan. A qualitative approach with a comparative case study design was employed in two Islamic-based elementary settings, namely SDN Potoan Laok 1 and SD Quran Utrujah. The research subjects consisted of 26 sixth-grade students at SDN Potoan Laok 1, who received an intervention using a comic titled “Stop Bullying”, and 13 third-grade students at SD Quran Utrujah, who were introduced to a comic titled “Jangan Pacaran dan Saling Menghargai”. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and parents, as well as oral pre-tests and post-tests to measure students’ understanding of Islamic character values. The findings indicate that Islamic comics are effective in translating abstract moral messages into concrete visual narratives that are closely related to students’ everyday experiences. At SDN Potoan Laok 1, the comics contributed to improved understanding of different forms of bullying and fostered a collective commitment to building a more empathetic classroom climate. At SD Quran Utrujah, the average understanding score increased from 48 to 76 (a gain of 58.3%), and parents reported that the comics facilitated more dialogic communication about pre-adolescent relationships. Comic-based visual literacy supports meaningful learning that is aligned with children’s cognitive development. It also shows strong potential as an alternative strategy for developing Islamic Religious Education curricula at the elementary level. The study is limited by its small sample, its focus on two schools in Pamekasan, and its reliance on qualitative data and oral pre- and post-tests. Even so, the findings offer important implications for using visual, narrative-based media to operationalize Islamic moral values in elementary education.

Abstract

The rapid infiltration of digital extremism poses an acute threat to Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), where social media algorithms, filter bubbles, and echo chambers frequently exploit adolescents' emotional vulnerabilities. Addressing the limitations of conventional digital literacy interventions that focus predominantly on technical-instrumental competencies, this study empirically investigates the efficacy of an "Ideological Vaccination" model grounded in McGuire’s Inoculation Theory and operationalized through a flipped peer-mentoring framework. Employing a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, the intervention was structured around a Cascading Mentoring Model at Islamic Boarding School Padepokan Kyai Mudrikah Kembang Kuning (IBS PKMKK) Pamekasan, engaging three student researchers (Grade 10), 12 student mentors (Grades 8–10) as the primary treatment group, and 71 seventh-grade students as the impact group. Mentors were exposed asynchronously to "weakened doses" of extremist digital narratives, followed by synchronous, guided refutational pre-emption anchored in the core Islamic value of Tawasuth (moderation). Inferential statistical analysis using a paired-sample t-test revealed a statistically significant increase in mentors' cognitive immunity from 87.5% at pre-test to 98.3% at post-test (t(11) = -6.842, p = 0.0001, p < 0.05), alongside a Normalized Gain (N-Gain) score of 0.83, denoting high effectiveness. The most critical baseline vulnerability concerning exploitative online jihadist donation campaigns (S4) improved substantially from 66.7% to 91.6%. Qualitatively, this cognitive antibody manifested in 12 digital civility infographics created via Canva (average score 3.95/4.00) and 71 peace literacy essays composed by the impact group (average score 3.90/4.00). These findings confirm that integrating inoculation theory with flipped peer mentoring establishes an organic, self-sustaining cognitive defense mechanism, effectively transforming santri from passive consumers of cyber information into sovereign producers of moderate religious discourse.
