Abstract

Cashew is a promising plant in Southeast Sulawesi due to its reasonably high economic value. This species has been cultivated for years in Southeast Sulawesi, particularly in South Konawe, Konawe, and East Kolaka, with 20 to 30-years-old average plant age. This research aimed to identify morphological variations at the vegetative stage of the cashew in three evaluated Southeast Sulawesi populations (South Konawe, Konawe, and East Kolaka). The descriptive observations were carried out on the leaf apex shape, leaf shape, leaf margin, leaf venation, the color of young and mature leaves, branching pattern, tree habit, ease of peeling bark from the twig, leaf texture, as well as leaf aroma. We indicated the morphological variations in the evaluated cashew. The variations were observed in leaf shape (obovate, oblong, and circular), leaf apex shape (pointed, rounded, and indented), leaf venation (curved up, curved down, and flat), branching pattern (intensive and extensive), tree habit (upright and open, upright and compact, spreading), ease of peeling bark from twigs (difficult and easy), leaf texture (smooth and rough), and aroma (mango-like and guava-like).

Abstract

An experiment aimed in gaining information on morphological characteristics of Jatropha curcas (L.) containing high frequency of uninucleate microspores has been done. This was important due to the successful application of experiment in haploid technique through anther or microspore culture is strongly determined by the availability of information from basic research such as appropriate morphology of the flowers. This scientific article, in our knowledge, was an early explanation of the initial steps of whole procedures in the microspore culture of Jatropha curcas (L.).  Results of the research showed that the morphological features of flower that contained high frequency of mid- and late uninucleate microspores was that the flowers must be in the range of 2 to 3 mm in length. Such flowers contained yellowish anthers.Key words: Flowers length, mid- and late-uninucleate, morphology, physic nut, microspore

Abstract

ABSTRACT A variety of methods are available for analysing repeated measurements data where the outcome is continuous. However, there is little information on how established methods is compared in practice with methods that have become available to applied statisticians more recently, and multilevel models. The aim of this paper was to exemplify the use of this method, and directly compare the results by the application of a hypothetical data set. The focus was on practical aspects rather than technical issues. The data considered were taken from a livestock trial of treatments for pasture in 20 chows, in which a baseline and four post-randomization measurements of outcomes were taken. The simplicity of the method of summary statistics using the post-randomization mean of observations provided a useful initial analysis.Key words: Analysis of variance, repeated measures, applying in broad aspects
