Abstract

ABSTRAKKota Pekalongan terletak di pantai utara Jawa Tengah dimana wilayah pesisir utara ini terdapat potensi yang dapat dikembangkan menjadi aset yang berharga bagi bangsa yaitu para pembuat kapal tradisional. Dalam pelaksanaannya, baik tipe ataupun bentuk kapal yang dibangun, berdasarkan pengalaman kapal-kapal yang pernah dibuat sebelumnya, tanpa melalui perhitungan dan penggambaran terlebih dahulu, sehingga dalam beberapa kasus terhadap pesanan kapal yang berbeda bentuknya, maka pengrajin ini akan mengalami kesulitan. Minimnya pengetahuan tentang gambar teknik juga menyebabkan para pengrajin kapal tradisional tidak dapat menggambar lambung kapal mereka. Hal ini menyebabkan perlunya sosialisasi mengenai teknologi perkapalan kepada pengrajin kapal di Kota Pekalongan terutama dibidang rancang bangun (design) dan konstruksi kapal agar terdapat standar baku mengenai konstruksi kapal kayu yang sesuai dengan standar yang ada seperti Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI). Pelatihan dilakukan dengan metode presentasi, demonstrasi, serta praktik langsung. Untuk mengukur pencapaian maka dilakukan pretest dan posttest yang dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah pelatihan. Hasil kuesioner menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan peserta pelatihan desain kapal. Sebelum dilakukan pelatihan, rata-rata pengetahuan peserta sebesar 26% dalam memahami desain kapal dan 33% dalam memahami analisa tahanan kapal, kemudian mengalami peningkatan menjadi rata-rata sebesar 76% untuk pemahaman desain kapal dan 77% untuk analisa tahanan kapal setelah diberi pelatihan. Kata kunci: desain; pengrajin; kapal kayu; karakteristik kapal ABSTRACTThe city of Pekalongan is located on the north coast of Central Java where there is potential for this northern coastal region to be developed into a valuable asset for the nation, namely traditional shipbuilders. In practice, both the type and shape of the ship built, based on the experience of ships that have been made before, without going through calculations and drawings beforehand, so that in some cases orders for ships with different shapes, these craftsmen will experience difficulties. The lack of knowledge about technical drawings also causes traditional shipbuilders to be unable to draw their hulls. This causes the need for socialization regarding shipping technology to ship craftsmen in Pekalongan City, especially in the field of ship design and construction so that there are standard standards regarding wooden ship construction in accordance with existing standards such as the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI). The training is carried out using presentation methods, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. To measure achievement, a questionnaire was filled out before and after the training. The results of the questionnaire showed an increase in the knowledge of ship design training participants. Before the training, the average knowledge of the participants was 26% in understanding ship design and 33% in understanding ship resistance analysis, then increased to an average of 76% for understanding ship design and 77% for ship resistance analysis after being given training. Keywords: design; craftsmen; wooden ships; ship characteristics

Abstract

Metal materials used as bone implants are not new today. In fact, almost 70% of implant materials are made of metal. Magnesium biocomposites with Carbonate Apatite or Hydroxyapatite reinforcements have promising potential as implants, one of the properties of these composites is biocompatible and bioactive to accelerate bone growth. There have been many studies on the development of Mg-CAp and Mg-HAp as biocomposite implant materials. Various methods of making these biocomposites have been carried out, such as sintering, microwave, coating, casting, and extrusion. From the fabrication process, observations were made regarding mechanical properties and chemical structure. The results show that CAp and HAp can suppress the corrosion rate of Magnesium, which is one of the weak properties that must be improved. Then it can increase the biological activity of Mg composites and has the ability of bone induction and bone conduction. In addition, the mechanical properties have increased in tensile, compression, and microhardness testing. However, so far, the research on Mg-HAp and Mg-CAp has only been limited to animal testing and has not been applied to humans. So, the potential for development and research is still open actually to be implemented in the orthopedic field.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (HA) is one of the inorganic components that has a role as a bone regeneration material. The potential for utilizing waste is one of the opportunities in HA commodities. Several waste materials that can be used as raw materials for HA include egg shells, beef bones, fish bones, limestone, and marine biota shells. Nowadays, the use of HA is not only limited to regeneration materials but also as a bone tissue scaffold. Porous HA is a form of HA that is in great demand today because it can be a good scaffold and regeneration material. One method that can be used to fabricate porous HA is the sponge replicated method. In its fabrication, the sponge replicated method is influenced by sintering temperature and binder composition. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a widely used binder because it can be evaporated without leaving traces and is biocompatible. This paper will examine the effect of sintering temperature and composition of PVA as a binder in pore HA fabrication. In particular, this paper compares the fabrication process with the characteristics of the resulting porous HA against commercial products and ISO 13379:2015 standards. According to the preliminary study, pore HA that conforms to the standard will have a good impact on the healing process of bone defects. The novelty of this research is to explore in depth related to the fabrication of HA pores using the sponge replicated method with sintering temperature parameters and the composition of PVA as a binder so that it is expected to be a literature for future researchers.

Abstract

Impeller adalah komponen utama pompa sentrifugal yang sering mengalami kegagalan seperti erosi, korosi dan kavitasi. Untuk mencegah kegagalan tersebut, salah satu cara yang digunakan adalah memberikan pelapis dengan metode TWAS. Pada penelitian yang telah ada, coating dengan metode TWAS menjadi salah satu pilihan yang banyak digunakan, namun belum banyak penelitian yang membahas mengenai pengaruh pengulangan sandblasting pada coating metode TWAS. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pengulangan sandblasting pada impeller pompa berbahan baku stainless steel 304 dengan metode Twin Wire Arc Spray Coating dengan NiAl sebagai bond coat dan FeCrBSiMn sebagai top coat. Penelitian ini menggunakan spesimen tanpa diberikan pelapisan dan spesimen tebaik yakni yang diberi pelapisan dengan satu pengulangan sandblasting. Karakterisasi dilakukan untuk mengetahui kekasaran permukaan (ISO 8503), kekerasan lapisan (ASTM E384), coating (ASTM D4541), dan laju korosi (ASTM G102). Pengujian SEM dan analisis ImageJ dilakukan untuk mengetahui struktur lapisan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan sandblasting dengan satu pengulangan memiliki hasil kekasaran permukaan dan ketebalan lapisan terendah. Namun, memiliki hasil karakterisasi lapisan paling optimal dengan porositas dan unmelt terendah, kekerasan tertinggi dengan 1081.6 HV dengan coating yang sudah sesuai dengan standar yakni 14.5 MPa dan semakin banyak pengulangan sandblasting, semakin tinggi laju korosinya. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah satu pengulangan sandblasting dalam metode TWAS sudah memberikan kualitas terbaik yang dapat meningkatkan performa dan penggunaan impeller pompa.

Abstract

The use of composite materials in brake pads is becoming increasingly popular due to their high-performance characteristics, including good thermal stability, high wear resistance, and low noise generation. However, the development of new composite materials that offer even better performance is still an ongoing research area. In this study, the composite was made by hand layup method using epoxy resin as matrix material, with rice husk, Al2O3, and Fe2O3 as reinforcing materials. The composition of the composites was varied by changing the percentage of the reinforcement materials. The composites were then subjected to several characterization tests, including density, hardness, flexural strength, thermal analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), TGA/DSC, and wear testing. The test results showed that additional reinforcement materials to the epoxy resin matrix improved the mechanical properties of the composites. Overall, the study demonstrates that a hand layup method is a viable approach for preparing brake pad composite materials and that the addition of rice husk, Al2O3, and Fe2O3 can improve the mechanical properties of the composites. The best properties produced in this research were found in one of the specimens which used epoxy, rice husk, Al2O3, and Fe2O3 with a composition of 50 wt.%, 20 wt.%, 15 wt.%, and 15 wt.%. However, the addition of rice husk also provides wear resistance and thermal stability. This study contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by advancing innovation, promoting sustainability, and reducing emissions in automotive industry applications.

Abstract

The Katuk plant (Sauropus androgynus L. Merr) is a natural substance with proven efficacy in treating diabetes, obesity, and inflammation. It also possesses antioxidant, lactation-inducing, and antibacterial properties. This study aimed to investigate the impact of varying concentrations of katuk leaf extract on characteristics of the moisturizer cream produced. The study involved extracting katuk leaves using the maceration method for 24 hours, utilizing ethanol as the solvent. The extraction process resulted in a yield of 1.86%. The final yield contains alkaloid chemicals, flavonoids, terpenoids, saponins, and tannins. The formulations employed in this investigation utilized the codes F0, F1, F2, and F3, representing the content of katuk leaf extract at 0%, 2%, 4%, and 6%, respectively. The cream generated exhibited an identifiable aroma of katuk and had a hue ranging from light green to blackish brown, as determined by organoleptic testing. The pH values of specimens F0, F1, F2, and F3 were 7, 7, 7, and 8, respectively. The spread ability measurements for specimens F0, F1, F2, and F3 were 5.3 cm, 5.5 cm, 6 cm, and 6.1 cm, respectively. According to the findings of this investigation, specimens F0, F1, F2, and F3 adhered for 5 seconds, 4 seconds, 4 seconds, and 5 seconds, respectively. The formulation F2 is the most superior product generated in this investigation. This is because this specimen exhibits the highest level of respondent satisfaction compared to the other specimens. This formulation exhibits antioxidant activity with a per cent inhibition of 30.51% and an IC50 value of 84.63 ppm. The face moisturizing cream derived from katuk leaf extract possesses a high antioxidant potency, placing it in the active/strong category.

Abstract

In train operation, brakes are an essential component because they involve the safety of passengers. Therefore, brake pads must be replaced periodically according to their lifespan. Currently, the most widely used train brake pad material is composite. Unfortunately, most train brake pads in Indonesia still use imported products because no industry can produce train brake pads of the desired quality. This study aims to manufacture and characterize composite materials for friction material for train brake pads that meet quality standards to substitute imported products. It needs to reduce dependence on imported products while at the same time encouraging the strengthening of the structure of the domestic manufacturing industry. In addition, agricultural waste in rice husks will be used to produce more environmentally friendly products. In this study, the composition of the types of composite materials, which include binder, reinforcement, abrasive, and filler materials, will be examined. Making composite materials in this study will use the hand layup method. Material characterization carried out includes impact testing and density. The characterization results show that using rice husk as a filler greatly influences the density of the resulting composite material. Specimen 5, made from epoxy, rice husk, iron filings, and Al2O3 (wt.%) at 50%, 20%, 15%, and 15%, respectively, was able to produce a higher density compared to the composite without rice husk and epoxy material. The results of this density test support the results of the impact tests that have been carried out. The higher the rice husk content, the higher the density produced. Adding rice husk can increase the mechanical properties of the resulting composite material.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang material alam sebagai pengganti material asbes dalam komposit material gesek kampas rem motor terus mengalami peningkatan. Material dalam kategori biomassa sebagai reinforcement komposit agar mendapatkan karakteristik material yang sesuai standar material gesek kampas rem motor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh fraksi volume sekam padi, aluminium oksida, dan besi oksida terhadap sifat mekanik dari spesimen komposit material gesek kampas rem. Proses pembuatan spesimen menggunakan metode hand lay-up dengan fraksi volume material epoksi (100 wt% dan 50 wt%), sekam padi (0 wt% dan 20 wt%), aluminium oksida (25 wt% dan 15 wt%), dan besi oksida (25 wt% dan 15 wt%). Pada penelitian ini, didapatkan pengaruh fraksi volume sekam padi, aluminium oksida, dan besi oksida terhadap sifat mekanik dari spesimen komposit material gesek kampas rem motor yaitu dapat meningkatkan nilai dari masing-masing hasil pengujian. Sehingga, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan material epoksi 50 wt%, sekam padi 20 wt%, aluminium oksida 15 wt%, dan besi oksida 15 wt% membuat ikatan antar partikel spesimen komposit material gesek kampas rem motor semakin baik dikarenakan kandungan silikanya yang tinggi. Oleh karena itu, didapatkan spesimen komposit material gesek kampas rem sepeda motor dengan sifat mekanik yang baik sesuai standar SNI nomor 09-0143-1987 dan SAE J661-1997.

Abstract

Failure in the results of making the crucible is cracking and even deformation. Cracks that occur can cause fluid leakage when melting so that it disrupts the casting process. The quality of the crucible can be influenced by factors including the selection of constituent materials, particle size, the amount of pressure, and the length of the firring process of heat treatment and cooling in the furnace. This study aims to determine the effect of heating rate on crucible made from clay and kaolin and molasses as a binder. With the treatment of different heating rates in the firring process, namely 3 ℃ / min, 4 ℃ / min, 5 ℃ / min, 6 ℃ / min, and 7 ℃ / min.  The composition of the materials used is 40% clay, 40% kaolin, and 5% molasses and 15% water as the total mass. The process of making specimens begins with crushing clay, sieving clay 100 mesh. Mixing process using twin screw extruder machine repeatedly for 45 minutes. Molded cylindrical size 20 x 20 mm, free air drying for 8 days, firring process at 1000 ℃ holding time 1 hour. The results showed that the difference in heating rate did not affect the change in chemical elements but the best heating rate was at 3℃/min showing a denser morphology, density value of 1.62 g/cm3, porosity value of 23%, and Vickers hardness value of 20.43 HVN.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada tantangan implan logam yang memerlukan operasi kedua, serta risiko infeksi, peradangan, dan korosi yang mungkin terjadi di dalam tubuh. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, penelitian ini mengembangkan material biokomposit yang terdiri dari PCL (Polycaprolactone), PLA (Polylactic Acid), dan Hidroksiapatit (HA), yang dapat terbiodegradasi secara alami di dalam tubuh. Sistem yang diusulkan mampu meningkatkan kontrol pengguna secara signifikan, serta menjadi fondasi untuk sistem kontrol lengkap dalam pembuatan filamen biodegradable. Hal ini dilakukan dengan mengatur parameter motor untuk mencapai diameter filamen yang konsisten dengan deviasi minimal serta mengontrol laju ekstrusi pada printer guna memperbaiki ketidakstabilan filamen.Penelitian ini juga akan membandingkan filamen yang dihasilkan dengan filamen komersial PLA merek SUNLU. Perbandingan tersebut meliputi evaluasi parameter fisik seperti ukuran diameter hasil ekstrusi, densitas filamen setelah penambahan PCL dan HA, serta apakah penampang filamen membentuk lingkaran sempurna. Hasil dari penelitian ini akan memberikan wawasan lebih dalam tentang kualitas fisik filamen yang dihasilkan.
