Abstract

Abstract

Background: Discharge planning is a continuous process carried out by nurses to help patients prepare for self-care after leaving the hospital. It involves collaboration among healthcare providers, patients, and families. Through health education, discharge planning provides essential information about the disease and its management to reduce the risk of relapse and rehospitalization. Objective: This systematic review aims to identify the effect of discharge planning implementation on patient satisfaction in the inpatient room. Design: This study employed a systematic review design to synthesize empirical evidence on the effect of discharge planning implementation on patient satisfaction in hospital inpatient settings. Data Sources: A systematic literature search was conducted using two electronic databases: Google Scholar and ScienceDirect. Articles published between January 2020 and April 2025 were identified using the keywords (“discharge planning” OR “discharge process” OR “transitional care”) AND (“patient satisfaction” OR “patient experience” OR “patient-reported experience”) AND (“hospital” OR “inpatient”). Review Methods: A total of 717 articles were initially identified. After removing duplicates and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria—full-text availability, English or Indonesian language, and quantitative study design—15 studies were included in the narrative synthesis. Article selection followed the PRISMA guidelines to ensure transparency and methodological clarity. The included studies were analyzed narratively to identify patterns, key themes, and overall effects of discharge planning on patient satisfaction. Results: Based on the results of several articles that fit the inclusion criteria, the implementation of discharge planning has a significant influence on the level of patient satisfaction. Conclusion: The implementation of discharge planning plays a crucial role in the hospital service system. Discharge planning can increase patient satisfaction with hospital services. Hospitals should develop standardized discharge planning protocols, strengthen nurse training programs, and ensure patient-centered implementation.

Abstract

Hemodialysis Unit is performed on patients with End-Stage Renal Failure (ESRD) and a background of various pre-existing health problems. Hemodialysis management requires the skills of competent nurses and is supported by hospital management, particularly good service management, to improve patient satisfaction. The study utilizes secondary data by analyzing journals obtained from 2020 to 2025. This study uses the Preferred Reporting Items for literature review and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA) approach. The article search process was conducted electronically. Data were obtained from the Scopus database and Google Scholar, Pubmed, DOAJ and GARUDA, the literature review used the keywords service quality, patient satisfaction, and hemodialysis. The results obtained in this study obtained 21 articles, 6 articles were not selected because they were not full-text reviews (3 from Scopus, and 3 from Google Scholar). There were 8 articles that were not analyzed because of qualitative research, and a total of 33 duplicate articles were excluded. Finally, 7 articles were selected for review. From the results of the literature review, it was found that good service quality in the hemodialysis room will increase high satisfaction for patients undergoing hemodialysis. From the results of the study, there are several factors that support improved health services such as service, facilities, atmosphere, and short waiting times have a positive effect on patient satisfaction. Good quality healthcare services in the hemodialysis room increase patient satisfaction. Many factors contribute to service quality, including cleanliness, waiting times, facilities, and the hemodialysis treatment environment.

Abstract

Patient satisfaction is an essential indicator of the quality of nursing care, particularly among individuals undergoing hemodialysis treatment. This literature review aims to identify the determinants influencing hemodialysis patients' satisfaction with nursing services. Literature searches were conducted through PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate for articles published between 2021 and 2025. From a total of 2,967 articles initially identified, nine studies met the inclusion criteria. The analysis revealed two primary factors significantly associated with patient satisfaction: nurses' caring behavior and therapeutic communication. Caring behavior includes empathy, attention, support, and the ability of nurses to meet both physical and emotional patient needs, while therapeutic communication refers to professional interactions that build trust and enhance patient understanding of the care process. Both factors were found to improve patients' perceptions of service quality and promote adherence to hemodialysis treatment. This review highlights the importance of strengthening caring competencies and therapeutic communication skills as key strategies to enhance the quality of nursing care in hemodialysis units.

Abstract

Nurse performance is a crucial determinant of healthcare quality and patient safety. Beyond clinical competence, contextual factors such as organizational climate and leadership styles play a crucial role in shaping professional outcomes. This study aims to synthesize empirical evidence regarding the influence of organizational climate and leadership on nurse performance and to identify the mediating mechanisms between these variables. A narrative review was conducted using a systematic search strategy across four major databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. The search was limited to articles published between 2019 and 2025. Following the PRISMA guidelines, a total of 213 initial articles were screened, resulting in 7 articles that met the inclusion criteria for final thematic analysis. The thematic synthesis identified three key themes: (1) The role of organizational climate in well-being and retention, (2) The impact of leadership styles on performance, and (3) The mediating role of organizational climate. Findings indicate that a supportive organizational climate is significantly associated with reduced burnout and increased intention to stay. Furthermore, transformational leadership was found to be the most effective style for improving patient outcomes, whereas toxic leadership negatively impacts retention. Organizational climate and leadership are fundamental determinants that simultaneously influence nurse performance. Effective leadership cannot function in isolation; it requires a supportive organizational climate to optimize nurse engagement and clinical outcomes. Management strategies should focus on creating a synergistic environment that combines visionary leadership with a constructive work atmosphere.

Abstract

Nurses play a vital role and bear primary responsibility in discharge planning due to their constant interaction with patients and families. Research on discharge planning in Indonesia, particularly for post-neurosurgery patients, is still limited and rarely explored in depth, especially using a qualitative approach. Through a qualitative approach, this study was able to reveal the perceptions, challenges, and strategies of nurses that are often not seen in quantitative data.  This study aims to analyse the role of nurses in discharge planning for families of patients who have undergone neurosurgery. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using phenomenological methods. The number of participants or informants based on saturation data or redundancy concepts can generally be achieved using purposive techniques. In-depth interviews were used in data collection. The data analysis process in this study used Colaizzi's approach. This study produced nine themes based on the Modified Concept of Meleis' Transitional Nursing Theory and Roy's Adaptive Nursing Model Theory. including medical education, clarity of information, involving the family, addressing concerns, support for access to follow-up services, follow-up support, patient/family readiness, post-discharge challenges, recommendations for services. The impact of discharge planning carried out by nurses prior to discharge home results in patients and their families being prepared to carry out nursing actions at home. Nurses should always be mindful of their role in the discharge planning process because quality discharge planning is not merely an “administrative procedure before discharge,” but rather a strategic investment.
