Abstract

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is one of the most widely cultivated freshwater fish in Indonesia, due to its high consumption rate and ease of maintenance. However, ectoparasite infection is a serious threat to fish health and productivity. This study aims to identify the presence and types of ectoparasites in Tilapia at the Fish Seed Center (BBI) of Aik Bukak Village, North Batukliang District, Central Lombok Regency. A total of 20 Tilapia samples from five parent ponds were examined using native scraping and biopsy techniques. The results of the analysis at the Histology and Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mandalika Education University, showed that 18 of the 20 samples were infected with ectoparasites. Morphological identification showed two types of parasites, namely Gyrodactylus sp. (Monogenea) and Trichodina sp. (Protozoa), which were found on the gills, mucus, and scales of the fish. These results indicate that ectoparasites are still a major problem in Tilapia cultivation at the research location.

Abstract

Leri water is a household waste from washing rice, known to contain various important nutrients, such as vitamins A, C, B1, carbohydrates, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, nitrogen, and iron. The nutritional content in rice washing water can be used to support the growth and development of chili plants. This study aims to determine the effect of leri water on the growth of plant height and number of leaves of cayenne pepper plants (Capsicum frutescens L). The design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments with 3 replications P1 0%, P2 25%, P3 50%, P4 75%, and P5 100%. P1 (without using leri water), P2 (250ml leri water + 750 plain water), P3 (500ml leri water + 500ml plain water), P4 (750ml leri water + 250ml plain water), and P5 (without using plain water). The variables observed were plant height and number of cayenne pepper leaves. The results of the study showed that the provision of leri water had an effect on the vegetative growth of cayenne pepper plants (Capsicum frutescens L.), the best results were seen in the P5 treatment with 100% leri water without a mixture of ordinary water, and the lowest results were in the P1 treatment without using leri water.

Abstract

Pyometra is a progressive and life-threatening reproductive system disease in female cats, especially those that are not sterilized. This disease is characterized by the accumulation of pus in the uterus due to a bacterial infection triggered by the influence of the hormone progesterone in the diestrus. This study aims to determine the prevalence and characteristics of pyometra cases in cats in Mataram City and identify risk factors. The research was conducted retrospectively by tracing medical record data from three veterinary clinics in Mataram City (ZZ Pet Care Clinic, Medina Vet Clinic, and drh. Rama & Partners Clinic) during the period June 2024 to May 2025. A total of 339 female cats were examined, and 42 cases of pyometra were found with a prevalence of 12.39%. The most cases were found in the age group of 1.5-2 years (52.38%) and domestic race (57.14%). All cats with the disease have not been sterilized with most having no mating history. These results show that active reproductive age, sterilization status, and local race are the main risk factors for pyometra in Mataram City. Therefore, preventive measures such as ovarihysterectomy and education to animal owners about the importance of reproductive management are needed to significantly reduce the incidence of pyometra.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country rich in natural resources, including in the field of livestock, one of which is cattle. Cows have an important role as providers of meat needs for the community. However, cows are also at risk of being infected with worms that can reduce immunity, inhibit weight gain, and potentially cause death. The purpose of this study is to detect and identify nematode worm eggs in the feces of Balinese cows (Bos sondaicus) located in Mumbul Sari Village, North Lombok Regency. The sampling method in this study uses the purposive sampling method based on the maintenance system. Sampling of Balinese cow feces (Bos sondaicus) was taken in Mumbul Sari Village, North Lombok Regency, by taking fresh cow feces, then taken to the Parasitology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mandalika Education University, to be examined using the saturated sugar flotation method, then observed under a microscope with a magnification of 100 times. The results of the study showed positive examination, namely the presence of Trichostrongylus sp; Toxocara vitulorum sp; Oesophagostomum sp; and Haemonchus contortus sp; on the feces of Balinese cattle from Mumbul Sari Hamlet, Bagek Nunggal, Pawang Kunyit I, Pawang Kunyit II, and Munder Hamlet.

Abstract

Eggs as a staple food for the community are increasingly in demand because they are very easy to obtain, easy to process and have high protein content. Duck eggs stored at room temperature can only last 10-14 days, after which the eggs have decreased in quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using betel nut seed solution as a preservative on the storage time and quality of duck eggs. This type of research is a True-experimental study with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), two factorial, consisting of concentration treatments (0%, 15%, 30%, 45%, and 60%) and storage time treatments (14 days, 21 days, and 28 days) with 3 replicates. Chemical and physical test data were analyzed using the ANOVA test (5%) using SPSS for Windows version 20.0. The interaction of betel nut seed solution concentration and storage time gave no significant effect on the pH value (Fhit = 1.125 < Ftab = 1.375), Yolk Index (Fhit = 1.002 < Ftab = 1.454), and Weight Loss (Fhit = 0.614 < Ftab = 0.638). However, the length of storage of duck eggs had a significant effect on the yolk index (Fhit = 21.821 > Ftab = 21) and weight loss (Fhit = 12,569 > Ftab = 12.001).

Abstract

This study aims to detect the presence of Oxytetracycline antibiotic residues in broiler chicken livers sold at the Mandalika Traditional Market, Mataram City. This study used a bioassay screening test method to detect antibiotic residues in broiler chicken liver samples taken from 10 traders in the market. The results showed that no antibiotic residues were found in all samples tested. All samples showed negative results, which means that the broiler chicken livers sold in the market contain Oxytetracycline residues. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that broiler chickens sold at the Mandalika Traditional Market do not contain Oxytetracycline antibiotic residues that exceed the safe limit for consumption.
