Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using the Project Based Learning model integrated with Oral Corrective Feedback in teaching academic writing in tertiary institutions. This form of research uses an experimental methodology and is quantitative in nature. Matching Pretest-Post-Test Control Group Design was used as the research methodology. This research data collection strategy uses tests. The test given is a performance test, in which students make scientific articles to be published in journals. The research data processing technique was SPSS 17. Based on the findings and discussion it can be concluded that the use of the PjBL model integrated with Oral Corrective Feedback is more effective than using the PjBL model alone to teach students academic writing in the field. Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program, Padang State University. The use of this model is one of the innovations in learning based on the latest curriculum by integrating innovative language learning methods in learning in tertiary institutions.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low short story writing skills of grade XI students at SMA Negeri 1 V Koto Kampung Dalam, where the average student performance had not reached the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 75. This study aimed to describe students' short story writing skills before and after the implementation of the Project-Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media, and to analyze the effect of this model on students' writing skills. This was a quantitative study using an experimental method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population consisted of all grade XI students, with a sample of 25 students from class XI F6 selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via short story writing performance tests and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis (t-test) tests. The results showed that the average short story writing score before using the Project-Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media was 47.88 (Nearly Sufficient), while it increased to 71.38 (More than Sufficient) after the intervention. Hypothesis testing indicated that the t-count was greater than the t-table (7.51 > 1.98), leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1). Thus, it is concluded that the Project-Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media has a significant influence on the short story writing skills of grade XI students at SMA Negeri 1 V Koto Kampung Dalam.

Abstract

This study aims to describe three things, namely the structure, content, and linguistic characteristics of observation report texts of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 15 Padang. The type of research used is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The data analyzed are observation report texts written by class VIII students of SMP Negeri 15 Padang totaling 33 texts. The instrument in this study was the researcher herself. Data collection techniques used fishing techniques and documentation techniques. The data validation technique used was triangulation (cross-check). Data analysis consists of, namely data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. Based on the results of the study, the following three things can be concluded. First, overall 24 texts have a complete structure and 9 texts do not have a complete structure. Second, the content of the observation report texts of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 15 Padang shows that of the 33 texts analyzed, 24 observation report texts have complete content. Third, the linguistic characteristics found in the observation report texts of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 15 Padang are 21 texts that have complete linguistic characteristics and 12 texts do not have complete linguistic characteristics. In general, students' ability to write observation report texts is classified as good, but still needs improvement, especially in the aspect of linguistic characteristics.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe: first, the level of personal letter writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Bukittinggi before the implementation of the Outdoor Learning method; second, the level of personal letter writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Bukittinggi after the implementation of the Outdoor Learning method; and third, the effect of the Outdoor Learning method on the personal letter writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Bukittinggi. The population of this study consisted of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Bukittinggi enrolled in the 2025/2026 academic year. The data in this study were the scores obtained from the students' personal letter writing tests. The research instrument used was a performance test in the form of a personal letter writing task. The data were analyzed using percentage formulas, mean score formulas, prerequisite tests for data analysis, and the t-test. The findings of this study are as follows. First, the personal letter writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Bukittinggi before the implementation of the Outdoor Learning method were classified as Fair. Meanwhile, the Minimum Learning Achievement Criteria (KKTP) applied at SMP Negeri 4 Bukittinggi was 75, which falls into the More than Fair qualification. Second, the personal letter writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Bukittinggi after the implementation of the Outdoor Learning method were classified as Very Good. Therefore, it can be concluded that the personal letter writing skills of the seventh-grade students had achieved the established KKTP after the implementation of the Outdoor Learning method. Third, based on the results of the t-test, it was concluded that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted at the 95% significance level and degrees of freedom (df) = n − 1 because t-count was greater than t-table (14.50 > 1.99). Thus, it can be concluded that the personal letter writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Bukittinggi taught using the Outdoor Learning method were significantly better than those taught without the Outdoor Learning method.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media on the poetry writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 24 Padang. The research was motivated by the low level of students’ poetry writing skills, particularly in aspects such as content relevance to the theme, diction, and imagery. Therefore, a learning model that can enhance students’ creativity, imagination, and engagement in the learning process is needed. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method (pre-experimental design) and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research population consisted of 228 eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 24 Padang in the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample was class VIII.E, comprising 26 students selected using purposive sampling. The research data were in the form of poetry writing skill scores obtained through performance tests administered before (pretest) and after (posttest) the implementation of the Project Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media. Data analysis included normality testing, homogeneity testing, and hypothesis testing (t-test). The results showed that students’ poetry writing skills before treatment had an average score of 60.90, categorized as Fair, while after treatment the average score increased to 79.17, categorized as Good. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed, and the homogeneity test confirmed that the data were homogeneous. Furthermore, the hypothesis test revealed that the calculated t-value was greater than the critical t-value (5.87 > 1.676) at a 95% significance level, thus the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the Project Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media has a significant effect on the poetry writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 24 Padang.
