Abstract

The purpose of this research was to explore three lecturers of English Education Study Program experiences in teaching writing online, types of online learning platform, Techniques that used in teaching writing online, and the challenges faced by the lecturers. This research applied descriptive qualitative method and three lecturers participated as respondents of this research. Data were collected through interview and checklist questionnaire and the data were analyzed using content analysis. The results showed that in teaching writing online, the lecturers used a number of online learning platform where they have been familiar those online learning platform, such as Whatsapp messenger, Virtual class, Zoom meeting, and Google meet. Further, in terms of techniques in teaching writing, it is found that the lecturers use Picture technique, Reading technique, Teaching organization technique, Controlled writing technique, Mind mapping, and List techniques. It was also found in this research that there a number of challenges faced by the lecturers during teaching writing through online;(1) Lecturers got challenges to control students during writing their drafts. (2) it is sometime the lecturer get challenges of time management, it is take time to access the online learning platform and it is also some of the online platform should be paid monthly and the last, the lecturers has limited internet quality access.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know teachers’ challenges in teaching English to young learners. This is a qualitative research that used qualitative method with interview as research instrument. The researchers selected two English teachers at SD Katolik Santa Theresya. The results show that there were some challenges that faced by the teachers in teaching English to young learners such as teaching listening, motivating students to learn English, and lack of textbook to faciltate the students’ needs. In teaching listening; the teachers found the challenges such as the students were difficult to comprehend or understand when the teachers spoke quickly. The teachers had some strategies to solve the problems to motivate the students, gave attention and care with the students. Besides, using of text book is not related with the students’ need becomes the challenges in teaching English. To solve it; the teachers make another alternative book such as LKS to support the teachers in teaching English in the classroom.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how to explore the text of student reports at the Khairun University English Education Study Program. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about the text of the Exploring student report. It is a qualitative method design and uses tests to collect data. Involving 20 fifth semester students. The researcher found that the aspects written by 20 respondents were more dominant in the generic structure. Writing report text is more accurate on generic structure and more wrong in writing text on linguistic features which include grammar, and vocabulary.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the Students' Attitudes of Using Online Game in English Learning at English Language Education Study Program of Khairun University. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about students' attitudes in using online games for learning English. This is a qualitative methode design and use questionnaire and interview collect data. Involved 60 students of fifth semester. The researcher found that the students' attitudes using online games gave positive and negative results. The positive impact is that students use games to learn English because in play game they get learning English such as vocabulary and speaking English. The negative impact are that students who often use games are lowering health, Creating laziness, making players forget time, forgetting to study, forgetting tasks and responsibilities and excessive addiction. English learning through online game students has been identify to English learning in some activities, such as reading book, waching English video, and study in class.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate the factors contribute students’ anxiety in leaning English and their strategies to reduce the anxiety. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The subject of the research were 40 students of the second semester of the English Language Education study Program Khairun University. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. The result of this research show that most of the students are at “Anxious” level students. There are 18 (45%) students who experience “Anxious” level, 10 (25%) students are in “Mildly Anxious” level, 9 (22.5%) students are in “Very anxious’ level, 2 (5%) students are in “very relaxed”, an the last 1 (2.5%) students are in “relaxed” level. Furthermore, there were three factors can cause anxiety based on FLCAS, which included communication apprehension (CA), test anxiety, and fear of negative evolution and there were five strategies that the students can use to minimize their anxiety which included preparation, relaxion, positive thingking, peer seeking, resignation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the students’ strategies in writing proposal thesis at English Study Program of Khairun University. This study uses a qualitative method. Ten students participated in this research. The data analyzed was used contend analyze and the data collection technique used in this study was interviewed. the result showed that There were 8 out of 10 respondents involved in this research are able to determine their strategies and concepts used in writing proposal thesis then also from 2 out of 10 respondents did not have the strategies or concepts that used in writing proposal thesis and in writing proposal thesis most of students obtained score 42% which is known as pre writing strategy then the second, students obtained score 33% which is known as while writing strategy and the third students obtained 25 which is known as post writing strategy.

Abstract

This research aims to explore students learning English experience in their learning practice both online and offline situation. It involved fifteen (15) students of fifth semester in English literature study program at Khairun University. This is qualitative descriptive method, and the data gathered from questionnaire and interview analysis. Based on result data analysis, students’ learning experience factors such interaction, instruction, instructor, management and technology had influenced their language acquisition, speaking communication, learning motivation, comfortable zone, and accessibility in learning class both online and offline situation. Those learning factors contributed to positive teaching and learning practice to enhance students’ opportunities for interaction and feedback, it is influenced their language learning strategies and preferences. The process of teaching and learning process does not always run well as smooth as the educator and students expected. However, students can extend their learning English experience and acquire more knowledge from learning factors.
