Abstract

This study examines the influence of harvested area and commodity prices on the Farmers’ Terms of Trade (NTP) in Central Sulawesi, a region where fluctuations in agricultural production significantly affect farmers’ welfare. The topic is considered important because NTP is widely used as an indicator of farmers’ purchasing power and economic resilience, while changes in harvested area and commodity prices often create instability in income and production outcomes. Using a quantitative research design with time-series data, the study analyzes the relationship between harvested area, commodity prices, and NTP over the 2024 period. Regression analysis was employed to determine the magnitude of influence of each variable and to quantify how much of the variation in NTP can be explained by these factors. The results show that both harvested area and commodity prices have a significant positive effect on NTP, with an R-squared value of 0.82, indicating that 82% of the variation in NTP is explained by these variables. However, a 7.1% decline in harvested area in 2024 led to a decrease in NTP from 102.45 to 98.21, despite a 4–5% increase in the prices of rice and corn. The rise in commodity prices was insufficient to offset the increasing production costs, resulting in a decline in farmers’ purchasing power. These findings highlight the vulnerability of farmers to production shocks and price fluctuations, emphasizing the need for policies that stabilize input costs, support productivity improvements, and strengthen farmers’ economic resilience.

Abstract

This study examines the socio-economic impacts of agricultural land conversion into industrial areas in rural Indonesia using qualitative methods based on literature. This transformation drives a process of de-agrarianization that alters income sources, work structures, and social identities in rural communities. Land conversion triggers diversification of livelihood strategies, increases land prices, and shifts in asset ownership, but compensation that is not managed productively has the potential to undermine economic independence. The impact on food security and sovereignty is significant, as reduced harvested areas reduce local production and increase dependence on external supplies. The shift in values from a subsistence ethos to an industrial logic triggers cultural lag, erodes social cohesion, and changes gender roles and domestic work patterns. The presence of migrant workers and the demand for industrial skills create new social stratifications that widen inequalities. Institutional factors such as transparency in compensation and strengthening village institutions determine whether this change leads to upward mobility or structural poverty. This study emphasizes the need for mitigation strategies that combine structural and cultural dimensions, including land protection, skills development, and strengthening social capital, to ensure rural industrialization is inclusive and does not deepen inequality. These findings are expected to inform equitable and sustainable village development policies

Abstract

Broiler chicken is consumed widely across Indonesia, particularly in South Sulawesi, where demand for broiler chicken continues to increase annually. South Sulawesi is a relatively large region with a substantial population, particularly in urban areas. This study aims to analyze broiler chicken price risk at the producer and consumer levels in South Sulawesi and identify factors influencing price volatility. Broiler chicken price volatility directly impacts the welfare of farmers and consumer purchasing power, particularly amidst seasonal demand dynamics and fluctuating feed costs. Secondary data was obtained from the Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS) for the period January-December 2025. The method used to measure broiler chicken price risk is the coefficient of variation (CV). The results indicate that broiler chicken price risk is not entirely borne by producers, but rather by wholesalers. This finding aligns with agribusiness marketing theory, which states that market players in the middle of the marketing chain tend to bear greater risks.

Abstract

The agricultural sector faces a structural divide between traditional practices and data-driven digitalization. This research investigates the influence of rural internet penetration on the adoption of modern agricultural machinery and its impact on labor productivity in Indonesia. Utilizing a quantitative framework, the study synthesizes official secondary data from national labor, digital development, and agricultural databases covering 38 provinces. Results demonstrate a significant positive correlation, where high-connectivity regions exhibit a 63.46% higher productivity index compared to digitally isolated areas. Path analysis reveals that internet penetration serves as a critical enabler, where gains in labor efficiency are predominantly mediated by the adoption of physical mechanization. However, low digital literacy in Eastern Indonesia remains a structural constraint. The study concludes that while rural internet penetration plays an important role in accelerating mechanization adoption, its effectiveness in improving agricultural productivity is highly dependent on digital literacy and the integration of digital infrastructure with mechanization practices.
