Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of blaming teachers for disciplining students in elementary schools, focusing on the gap between public perceptions and on-ground realities. Discipline is a crucial element in shaping students' character; however, teachers' disciplinary actions are often perceived as excessive, leading to accusations of ethical violations or abuse. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, involving in-depth interviews with teachers, students, parents, and school officials from three urban elementary schools. The findings reveal that negative public perceptions of teachers' disciplinary actions are frequently based on incomplete information, lacking an understanding of the school context and dynamics. On the other hand, some teachers acknowledge the need for more training in non-violent classroom management, influencing their disciplinary approaches. These findings highlight the importance of transparent communication between schools and parents and the need for intensive teacher training on empathy-based discipline management. This study contributes to formulating strategies to reduce misunderstandings between communities and schools and supports the creation of a more harmonious educational environment.

Abstract

Character education is a fundamental component of the educational system aimed at fostering individuals with integrity, ethical awareness, and a strong sense of responsibility. This study examines the synergy between teachers and parents in shaping students’ character at SMA Negeri 1 Porehu, while also identifying existing challenges and effective strategies for improvement. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving nine key informants, including the school principal, teachers, and parents. The findings reveal that teacher–parent synergy remains limited due to ineffective communication and low parental participation in school activities. Nevertheless, initiatives such as the internalization of positive values through the “Morning Habituation” program and the establishment of regular communication forums between the school and parents have proven to enhance the effectiveness of character development. Supporting factors include well-structured school programs and active parental involvement, whereas major obstacles consist of value discrepancies between home and school environments and negative social influences. This study recommends strengthening collaborative-based character education programs by actively engaging parents in both instructional and character-building processes to ensure consistent and sustainable character formation among students.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini berangkat dari pokok permasalahan masih terbatasnya kesadaran hukum masyarakat dalam memahami dan mengharmonisasikan nilai-nilai hukum pidana Islam dengan hukum pidana adat Tolaki dalam penyelesaian persoalan sosial. Kurangnya literasi hukum sering berdampak pada penyelesaian konflik yang kurang efektif dan berpotensi menimbulkan ketegangan sosial. Oleh karena itu, tujuan kegiatan ini adalah memperkuat kesadaran hukum masyarakat melalui penyuluhan yang mengintegrasikan perspektif politik hukum pidana Islam dan kearifan lokal hukum adat Tolaki sebagai landasan pembentukan budaya hukum yang responsif dan berkeadilan. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif melalui penyuluhan interaktif, diskusi kelompok terarah, dan simulasi studi kasus yang disesuaikan dengan realitas sosial masyarakat. Kegiatan melibatkan tokoh adat, tokoh agama, dan aparatur desa untuk menciptakan dialog yang konstruktif dan kontekstual. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman peserta mengenai prinsip keadilan, tanggung jawab sosial, dan mekanisme penyelesaian pelanggaran hukum berbasis nilai agama dan adat. Masyarakat juga menunjukkan perubahan sikap yang lebih terbuka terhadap pentingnya kepatuhan hukum dan penyelesaian konflik secara damai dan musyawarah. Kesimpulannya, penyuluhan yang mengintegrasikan politik hukum pidana Islam dan hukum pidana adat Tolaki terbukti efektif dalam memperkuat kesadaran hukum masyarakat. Sinergi antara norma keagamaan dan kearifan lokal menjadi strategi yang relevan untuk membangun budaya hukum yang berkelanjutan, partisipatif, dan selaras dengan kebutuhan sosial masyarakat.
