Abstract

Jerawat vulgaris merupakan kondisi inflamasi kronis pada kelenjar pilosebasea yang ditandai dengan berbagai jenis lesi. Bakteri utama yang berperan dalam patogenesis jerawat adalah Propionibacterium acnes dan Staphylococcus aureus. Terapi antibiotik konvensional dapat menimbulkan efek samping dan resistensi, sehingga diperlukan alternatif antimikroba dari bahan alam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun nanas (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) dan daun sirih hijau (Piper betle L.) terhadap bakteri P. acnes dan S. aureus. Ekstrak dibuat dengan metode maserasi menggunakan etanol 96% pada konsentrasi 20%, 40%, dan 60%. Uji antibakteri dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi cakram (Kirby-Bauer) pada media Nutrient Agar, dengan klindamisin sebagai kontrol positif dan aquadest sebagai kontrol negatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi ekstrak pada semua konsentrasi mampu membentuk zona hambat terhadap P. acnes (diameter rata-rata: 20,23 mm; 22,69 mm; 24,85 mm) dan S. aureus (diameter rata-rata: 20,51 mm; 20,23 mm; 24,74 mm), dengan zona hambat terbesar pada konsentrasi 60%. Analisis statistik menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan pada P. acnes (p = 0,016), namun tidak pada S. aureus (p = 0,284). Temuan ini mendukung potensi kombinasi ekstrak daun nanas dan sirih hijau sebagai alternatif agen antibakteri topikal untuk pengobatan jerawat, khususnya terhadap P. acnes. Penelitian lebih lanjut diperlukan untuk mengkaji mekanisme kerja dan keamanan penggunaannya.

Abstract

Peptic ulcer disease is a gastrointestinal disorder characterized by mucosal lesions in the stomach or duodenum. Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) are the main therapy by inhibiting gastric acid secretion. To describe the use of PPI drugs in patients with peptic ulcer disease at Royal Prima Hospital Medan from January 2022 to April 2025. This descriptive retrospective study used secondary data from medical records. Samples were selected using total sampling technique, involving 96 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed univariately and presented in frequency distribution. Most patients were over 50 years old (62.5%) and female (56.2%). The most commonly used PPI was lansoprazole (62.5%), with dosage of 2x1 daily (78.1%), treatment duration of 7-30 days (53.1%), and the most frequent clinical symptom was nausea (45.8%). The use of PPIs in peptic ulcer patients at Royal Prima Hospital Medan was largely in accordance with the principles of appropriate indication and dosage, with lansoprazole being the most frequently used drug.

Abstract

UV rays are oxidative because they can produce Reactive Oxygen Species and free radical compounds. The dangers of sun exposure can cause skin disorders such as aging at an early age (photoaging). Rosella flower petals can be used in medicine, jams, and natural food coloring because they contain flavonoids as antioxidants or free radical scavengers. The research aimed to determine the effect of administering Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) flower extract gel on TNF-α expression and Caspase-3 expression in an in vivo study of Wistar mice exposed to UVB. This research is an experimental study. The sample for each treatment group consisted of 6 individuals, so the total research sample was 24. Data analysis used descriptive, normality, and homogeneity tests with data analysis processing using SPSS 25.0 for Windows. The study found that administration of rosella flower extract gel with a concentration of 15% effectively reduced the expression of TNF-α and Caspase-3 in mice exposed to UVB light and produced filled and dense collagen. So, it can be concluded that rosella flower extract gel can act as an antioxidant that inhibits the growth of TNF-α and Caspase-3 expression.

Abstract

Pengelolaan diabetes melitus tipe 2 sering kali kompleks dan membutuhkan penggunaan lebih dari satu jenis obat, yang dapat menyebabkan Drug Related Problems (DRP). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi penggunaan obat dan mengidentifikasi Drug Related Problem (DRP) yang kemungkinan terjadi pada pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan prospektif, yang dilakukan di Rumah Sakit Umum Royal Prima Medan dari September hingga November 2023. Data yang digunakan adalah 450 resep pasien rawat jalan yang berusia 18 tahun dan didiagnosis dengan diabetes melitus tipe 2, baik dengan atau tanpa komplikasi, serta menggunakan obat antidiabetes oral. Dari hasil penelitian, karakteristik pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2 yang paling banyak adalah kelompok usia dewasa (19-59 tahun) dengan 55.33% dan jenis kelamin perempuan dengan 60.44%. Metformin adalah obat antidiabetes yang paling umum digunakan dengan persentase 36.74%. Potensi DRP yang paling sering ditemukan adalah interaksi obat (97%) dan overdosis (3%). Identifikasi dan manajemen DRP yang tepat sangat penting untuk meningkatkan efektivitas terapi dan kualitas hidup pasien. Disarankan juga adanya edukasi berkelanjutan bagi pasien dan pelatihan bagi tenaga medis untuk meminimalkan risiko DRP.

Abstract

Sunkist oranges (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck have a high content of anthocyanins (95% of which are cyanidin-3-glucoside and cyanidine-3-6"-malonyl-glucoside), flavanone (hesperidin and narirutin), as well as hydroxynamic acid (caffeic acid, cumaric acid, cinnamic acid, and ferulic acid), carotenoids, sugars, minerals, and fiber, considered a good food source of bioactive substances with beneficial effects on health. This study aims to examine the potential for liver improvement in mice with a diabetes model after the administration of nanoparticle granules combining sunkist orange peel and lime peel. The design of this experimental research is Post Test Only Control Group Design. Twenty-five male rats of the wistar strain were used which were divided into 5 groups at random, namely the negative control group (aloxan), the positive control group (aquadest), Treatment 1 (aloxan + nanoparticle granules 50mg/kgBB), Treatment 2 (aloxan + nanoparticle granules 100mg/kgBB) Treatment 3 (aloxan + nanoparticle granules 200mg/kgBB). The liver organ was prepared for observation with 10x ocular magnification and 40x objective lens magnification. Liver improvement had an effect on the decrease of SGPT, SGOT, and Histopathological picture of the liver in diabetic model mice after the administration of nanoparticle granules combined with sunkist orange peel and lime peel at concentrations of 50 mg/KgBB, 100 mg/KgBB and 200 mg/KgBB showed significant differences. The best liver improvement is by administering nanoparticle granules a combination of sunkist orange peel and lime peel at a concentration of 200 mg/KgBB. Abstract

Hepatitis akut merupakan kondisi medis yang dapat menyebabkan gangguan fungsi hati serta berpotensi berkembang menjadi penyakit hati kronis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan gambaran karakteristik klinis pada pasien hepatitis akut yang dirawat di RSU Royal Prima Medan pada tahun 2022-2025. Penelitian observasional dengan desain cross-sectional dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Seluruh pasien yang terdiagnosis hepatitis akut dengan data rekam medis yang lengkap di RSU Royal Prima Medan pada periode 2022-2025 dijadikan sampel dengan total 34 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mayoritas responden adalah laki-laki (55,9%) dengan kelompok usia dominan kategori dewasa 20-60 tahun (91,2%). Gejala utama yang paling banyak dialami adalah demam (67,6%) dan ikterus (50%). Pemeriksaan laboratorium menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada SGOT (70,6%), SGPT (91,2%), bilirubin direct (67,7%), bilirubin indirect (64,8%), dan total bilirubin (70,6%). Penelitian ini memberikan gambaran komprehensif mengenai karakteristik klinis pada pasien hepatitis akut di RSU Royal Prima Medan yang diharapkan dapat mendukung upaya diagnosis dini, manajemen yang tepat, serta pencegahan komplikasi yang lebih lanjut.

Abstract

Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungus that can cause infections, especially in individuals with low immune systems. Efforts to control this fungal infection can be done by utilizing natural ingredients as an alternative antifungal. Pineapple leaves (Ananas comosus) and green betel leaves (Piper betle L) are known to contain active compounds with antimicrobial properties. This study aims to determine the inhibitory power of a combination of pineapple leaf and green betel leaf extracts on the growth of Candida albicans and to compare their effectiveness at various concentrations. This research is a laboratory experimental study using the disc diffusion method. Three groups of extract concentration combinations were used: 20%, 40%, and 60%. The diameter of the inhibition zone was measured in millimeters, and data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test followed by a Tukey HSD test. The results showed that the 20% concentration produced the largest average inhibition zone diameter of 38.32 mm, while the 40% and 60% concentrations produced 28.46 mm and 28.31 mm, respectively. The ANOVA test showed a significant difference between groups (p < 0.05), and the Tukey HSD test showed that the 20% concentration was significantly different from the other two groups. The combination of pineapple leaf and green betel leaf extracts at a concentration of 20% was the most effective concentration in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans compared to concentrations of 40% and 60%.

Abstract

Compulsive and impulsive buying behaviors have become increasingly prevalent in modern society, particularly among medical students who have easy access to online shopping. This study aims to explore the relationship between compulsive and impulsive buying tendencies and online shopping behaviors among students from the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Prima Indonesia, specifically the Class of 2023. Using an analytical survey method and a cross-sectional approach, data were collected from a purposive sample of 100 students. Questionnaires were administered to assess the levels of compulsive and impulsive buying. The results indicated a significant moderate positive correlation between compulsive and impulsive buying behaviors and online shopping, with a correlation coefficient of r=0.445 (p<0.001). This research aims to enhance the understanding of shopping behavior in the digital era and to assist in developing strategies to prevent unhealthy shopping habits.

Abstract

This research aims to find out effectiveness test of turmeric rhizome in concentration of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% toward Bacillus cereus bacterial and Ciprofloxacin the same concentration as the comparison. Bacillus cereus Bacteria is a gram-positive rod-shaped bacteria and it is dangerous for humans. This research was conducted with an experimental method with post-test only design and sampling using purposive sampling method. The effectiveness test of turmeric rhizome extract toward Bacillus cereus bacteria was carried out by diffusion using disc paper by calculating the diameter of the bacterial inhibition zone against disc paper that had been moistened with turmeric rhizome extract or Ciprofloxacin solution. The results obtained in this research were carried out with the Post Hoc test, the test was found that there were significant differences from each treatment given with a 95% confidence index. In bacteria treated with 25% ciprofloxacin toward Bacillus cereus, the effectiveness was above 50% turmeric rhizome extract and under 75% turmeric extract. Turmeric extract of 75% 10.6 mm had bacterial effect as Ciprofloxacin 25% of 10.1 mm toward the growth of Bacillus cereus bacterial.

Abstract

The papaya (Carica papaya L) flower contain flavonoids, tannins, and triterpenoid steroids which function as antidiabetic. This study was conducted to determine the antidiabetic effect of papaya (Carica papaya L) flower extract on sucrose-induced male mice. In this study, mice were made diabetic by inducing them with sucrose at a dose of 160 mg/kg BW. A total of 25 mice were grouped homogeneously into 5 groups, consisting of a negative control group (CMC 0.5%), a positive control group (no administration), a group with a dose of 200 mg/kg BW, a group with a dose of 400 mg/Kg. BW, and the group with a dose of 500 mg/Kg BW. Measurement of blood sugar levels of mice was carried out before administration of sucrose, after administration of sucrose and after administration of papaya flower extract. The results showed that the three doses had an antidiabetic effect, and the administration of papaya flower extract at a dose of 200 mg/Kg BW showed a better effect than the negative control.
