Abstract

Along with increasing life expectancy, the community tries to find solutions to health problems. One of the health problems that occur in humans is caused by fungi. Candida albicans is one of the fungi that can be found in humans. Candida albicans are normal flora in the vagina, digestive tract, and oral cavity. Nevertheless, it can change into a pathogen and cause changes in the host. Based on compound contained in leaf of mango bacang and leaf of bidara, they have antifungal effect. This study aims to determine the antifungal activity of single ethanol extract of mango bacang leaves and bidara leaves with a combination of bidara leaves ethanol extract and ethanol extract of mango bacang leaves against Candida albicans. The method of this study begins with collecting mango bacang leaves and bidara leaves then extracted maceration with ethanol solvents. The antifungal activity is tested with the disk diffusion method using potato dextrose media. Based on the results of the hypothesis test obtained a significance value of 0.010 <0.05, there was a difference in the diameter of the inhibition zone against the growth of Candida albicans due to a single giving and variations in the combination of ethanol mango bacang leaves and bidara leaves ethanol extract. Extract single antifungal activity after combined experienced a minimum increase of 1.2%. The conclusion of this study shows that the combination of ethanol extract of bacang mango leaves with bidara leaves ethanol extract has a larger inhibiting zone than a single extract and shows the synergy effect. The use of bacang mango leaves as anti-fungal is recommended in combination with bidara leaves.

Abstract

Matoa bark (Pometia pinnata J.R. Forst. & G. Forst) has long been used traditionally as a remedy for various ailments such as fever, skin disorders, infections, and inflammation. This study aims to determine the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of matoa bark extract obtained through successive maceration using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 96% ethanol. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids. The results showed that the 96% ethanol extract had the highest total phenolic content at 169.804 mg GAE/g, followed by the ethyl acetate extract at 97.647 mg GAE/g, and the n-hexane extract at 52.549 mg GAE/g. Antioxidant activity tested using the DPPH method indicated that the ethanol extract exhibited the strongest activity with an IC₅₀ value of 92.593 μg/mL (strong category), followed by the ethyl acetate extract at 121.695 μg/mL (moderate category), and the n-hexane extract at 187.393 μg/mL (weak category). This study shows the role of polar solvents in increasing antioxidant activity and total phenolic content.

Abstract

Mango Bacang leaves and bay leaves are plants that can be used as ingredients in traditional medicine as natural antibacterials which are believed to help get rid of acne. Several previous studies also reported that Bacang mango leaves and bay leaves have activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi bacteria. This study aims to determine the evaluation results of peel-off gel mask preparations that meet the requirements. The test methods include organoleptic test, pH test, viscosity, homogeneity test and dispersion test. The test results showed that F1 and F2 were the best formulas with the characteristics of a green-black gel, a characteristic odor of mango Bacang and bay leaves, a viscosity of 1129 cPs and 1135 cPs, pH 4.4 and 4.5. The dispersion test was 5.1 cm and 5.7 cm and the homogeneity test on the peel off gel mask was homogeneous, there were no fibers, lumps or differences in color when applied to a transparent slide.

Abstract

Mahkota dewa (Phaleria macrocarpa) is a plant from the Thymelaeceae family. This plant contains several active compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, and tannins, so it has potential as a herbal medicine in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the toxicity of the leaves of the god crown using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Extraction of the god crown leaves using 96% ethanol solvent with the maceration method was then carried out a phytochemical screening which showed that the sample of the crown god leaf contained alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, saponins and tannins. Toxicity testing of the ethanol extract of Mahkota Dewa leaves on Artemia salina Leach larvae was divided into 5 test groups, namely 4 treatment groups (concentrations of 250 ppm, 500 ppm, 750 ppm, and 1000 ppm) and 1 control or comparison group (seawater). Each concentration was made in 3 vials including 10 Artemia salina Leach larvae. Observations were made by looking at the death of Artemia salina Leach larvae after 24 hours of treatment. The research results can be seen through probit analysis by calculating the LC50 value. The LC50 value of the ethanol extract of Mahkota Dewa leaves was 7,7090 /mL. This shows that the ethanol extract of Mahkota Dewa leaves has a toxic effect on Artemia salina Leach larvae because the LC50 value is <1000 ppm.

Abstract

Stem bark of the menteng (Baccaurea racemosa) contains antioxidant phenolic and flavonoid compounds capable of stopping free radical chain reactions. This research aims to make a formula for cream preparation and to find out the antioxidant activity of cream extract from the stem bark of the menteng (Baccaurea racemosa). The study used experimental methods to make a 96% ethanol extract cream with concentrations of 0,5%, 1,5%, and 3%. The results of a semisolid shaped organoleptic test with a typical fragrance of brown, brown, and old brown brown bark extract, homogenity tests F0, F1, F2, and F3, are homogeneous. The pH tests F0 (5), F1 (4,5), F2 (4,7) and F3 (4,8). The spreadability tests F0 (6,2 cm), F1 (6,1 cm), F2 (5,9 cm) and F3 (5,6 cm). Viscosity tests F0 (887,73 cPs), F1 (748,06 cPs), F2 (839,43cPs) and F3 (817,03cPs). Testing antioxidant activity using UV-Vis spectroscopic photometers obtained a wavelength of 516,80 nm with an absorption value of 0,725 in formula 1 (extract concentration of 0,5%) obtained an IC50 value of 51,41, in formula 2 (extract concentration of 1,5%) obtained an IC50 value of 63,43, and in formula 3 (extract concentration of 3%) obtained an IC50 value of 48,91. The antioxidant content of formulas 1 and 2 has strong antioxidant activity whereas formula 3 has a significant amount of antioxidant activity.

This plant contains several active compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, and tannins, making it a potential herbal medicine in Indonesia. This research aims to determine the toxicity of petai cina leaf extract using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. The extraction process of Chinese petai leaves uses 96% ethanol solvent with the maceration method, then a phytochemical screening is carried out, which shows that the Chinese Petai leaf samples contain alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, and tannins. Testing the toxicity of the ethanol extract of petai cina leaves on Artemia salina Leach larvae was divided into 5 test groups, namely 4 treatment groups (concentration 250 ppm, 500 ppm, 750 ppm, and 1000 ppm) and 1 control or comparison group (seawater).
