Abstract

Background: Lower back pain is common in pregnant women, especially in the third trimester, due to physiological changes such as weight gain, shifts in the body’s center of gravity, and ligament relaxation. Prenatal exercise is a non-pharmacological method that improves flexibility, strengthens muscles, and enhances posture, reducing lower back pain. However, its implementation remains limited due to a lack of education and supporting facilities. Objective: This study evaluates the effect of prenatal exercise on lower back pain reduction in third-trimester pregnant women at the Independent Practice of Midwife Novia Br Karo, Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency. Method: A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was used. The study included 32 third-trimester pregnant women experiencing lower back pain. Prenatal exercise was provided, and pain levels were measured before and after using an observation sheet. Results: Before the intervention, most respondents (53.1%) reported moderate pain. After prenatal exercise, the majority (59.4%) experienced reduced pain in the mild category. The Wilcoxon test yielded a Z value of -3.122 with p = 0.002 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of prenatal exercise in reducing lower back pain. Conclusion: Prenatal exercise effectively reduces lower back pain intensity in third-trimester pregnant women. It should be promoted as a non-pharmacological intervention for pregnancy-related back pain and incorporated into maternal health programs.

Abstract

Background: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a health problem that can affect the mother and fetus. Age and number of pregnancies (gravida) are thought to be related to the incidence of CED. This study aims to analyze the relationship between age and number of pregnancies with the incidence of CED in pregnant women at the Lau Baleng Health Center, Lau Baleng District, in 2023.Methods: This study used an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 56 pregnant women selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews and measurements of the Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), then analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: The results showed that 23.2% of respondents experienced CED. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between age and the incidence of CED (p = 0.004), where mothers aged <20 years or >35 years had a higher risk of experiencing CED than mothers aged 20-35 years. In addition, there is a significant relationship between the number of pregnancies (gravida) and the incidence of CED (p = 0.004), where mothers with a history of more than five pregnancies (grandemultigravida) have the highest prevalence of CED (62.5%). Conclusion: The age of pregnant women and the number of pregnancies have a significant relationship with the incidence of CED. Therefore, prevention efforts are needed through nutritional education for pregnant women, especially in the at-risk age group and mothers with high parity, to reduce the incidence of CED.

Abstract

Rupture of the perineum is one of the common complications in vaginal delivery that can increase the risk of postpartum hemorrhage, infection, and maternal death. One of the factors that contribute to the occurrence of perineal rupture is the baby's birth weight. Babies with a birth weight of ≥4000 grams can cause greater pressure on the mother's birth canal, increasing the likelihood of tearing of perineal tissue. In Indonesia, 75% of mothers who give birth vaginally experience perineal lacerations, and postpartum bleeding is still the leading cause of 40% of maternal deaths. This study aims to determine the relationship between infant birth weight and the incidence of perineal rupture in normal childbirth at the Lusi Marbun Independent Midwife Practice, Simalungun Regency in 2022.This study uses an observational analytical design with a case control approach. A sample of 30 maternity mothers was selected using the total sampling method. The data were analyzed using the Chi-square test to determine the relationship between birth weight and perineal rupture. The results showed that the majority of babies had a birth weight of <4000 grams (63.3%) and the majority of mothers experienced a second degree perineal rupture (70%). The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between birth weight and the incidence of perineal rupture (p-value = 0.000). There is a significant relationship between birth weight and the incidence of perineal rupture. The greater the baby's weight, the higher the risk of perineal rupture in the mother during childbirth. It is important for health workers to carry out early detection of fetal weight, provide nutrition education during pregnancy, and prepare for the delivery process optimally to minimize the risk of complications.

Abstract

Mother-to-child transmission of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B remains a public health challenge. Transmission can occur during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. To reduce the rate of transmission, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia launched the Triple Elimination program through screening pregnant women in integrated antenatal services. However, the use of this examination is influenced by the behavior of pregnant women, including knowledge, attitudes, and actions. To find out the relationship between the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of pregnant women with the use of Triple Elimination examinations at the Kuala Bangka Health Center, North Labuhan Batu Regency in 2022. This study is an analytical observational study with a cross sectional design. The sample consisted of 35 pregnant women who visited the Kuala Bangka Health Center. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test. Most of the respondents had good knowledge (45.7%), positive attitudes (74.3%), and good actions (45.7%). There was a significant relationship between knowledge (p=0.007), attitudes (p=0.003), and actions (p=0.007) with the use of Triple Elimination examinations. Knowledge, attitudes, and actions of pregnant women have a significant relationship with the use of Triple Elimination examinations. Increased education and support in antenatal services is needed to support the success of the mother-to-child elimination program of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B.

Abstract

HIV/AIDS is an infectious disease that has a serious impact on the immune system and is at high risk in pregnant women. Mother-to-baby transmission of HIV can occur during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. HIV screening in pregnant women is important for the prevention of vertical transmission. However, the utilization rate of this test is still low, one of which is due to the lack of knowledge of pregnant women about HIV/AIDS. This study aims to determine the relationship between pregnant women's knowledge about HIV and the use of HIV testing at the Bintang Health Center, Central Aceh Regency in 2022. This study uses an analytical observational design with a cross sectional approach. The research sample amounted to 40 pregnant women who were selected by purposive sampling. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of pregnant women had sufficient knowledge about HIV/AIDS (40%) and most did not do HIV screening (55%). There was a significant relationship between pregnant women's knowledge about HIV and the use of HIV screening (p-value = 0.0001). There is a significant relationship between pregnant women's knowledge about HIV-AIDS and the use of HIV screening by pregnant women at the Bintang Health Center, Central Aceh Regency. Intervention efforts in the form of education and counseling are needed to increase the knowledge of pregnant women to encourage routine HIV testing in an effort to prevent HIV transmission from mother to child.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a physiological process that is accompanied by various changes, including hormonal changes that can cause nausea and vomiting (emesis gravidarum). One of the non-pharmacological interventions that can be used to manage these symptoms is acupressure therapy. This study aims to determine the effect of acupressure therapy on reducing symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnant women in the first trimester at the Kuala Bangka Health Center, North Labuhan Batu Regency in 2022. This study uses a pre-experimental design with a pre-post one group design approach. The sample consisted of 20 pregnant women in the first trimester who experienced symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum. The acupressure intervention was carried out for 3 days at PC6 and ST36 points. Measurements of nausea and vomiting levels were carried out before and after the intervention using a standard measurement scale. The results of the analysis showed that there was a decrease in the average rate of nausea and vomiting by 0.90000 after acupressure therapy was performed. The paired t-test showed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) and a calculated t-value of 7.285 > table 1.729, which means that there is a significant effect of acupressure therapy on reducing the symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum. Acupressure therapy is effective in reducing the rate of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester.

Abstract

Pregnant women are one of the population at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Syphilis. More than 90% of children are infected with HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis B from their mothers. The risk of mother-to-child transmission for HIV/AIDS is 20%-45%, for syphilis it is 69-80%, and for hepatitis B it is more than 90% (Ministry of Health, 2017). Infection, syphilis and hepatitis B have the same transmission route, namely through sexual, blood and vertical transmission from mother to child. Infectious diseases such as HIV infection, hepatitis B and syphilis that can be transmitted from mother to fetus through pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, and can cause illness, disability, and death, thus adversely affecting the survival and quality of life of children. However, this can be prevented by simple and effective interventions in the form of early detection (screening) during antenatal care services during a pandemic, namely a minimum of 6 times during pregnancy and services with 10 T and one of the supporting examinations carried out is hemoglobin and triple elimination. Elimination of examinations on every pregnant woman for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and Syphilis which is a form of state responsibility for this problem with the aim of reducing the number of new infections in newborns so that the eyes of transmission from mother to child are cut off. The type of research used is a cross sectional study. This research was a cross sectional analytical survey research. The sample in this study amounted to 35. The sampling technique used in this study used purposive sampling. Results of the study showed that knowledge (p=0.007<0.005), attitude (p=0.45<0.05) and actions (p=0.049<0.05), so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between pregnant women's behavior on the use of triple elimination examination at the Kuala Bangka Health Center, Kab. North Stone Harbor in 2022.
