Abstract

The maritime industry currently faces the challenges of rapid digital transformation, yet the human factor remains a key pillar in ensuring safe port operations. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Truck Safety Awareness (TSA) training on the safe driving behavior of truck drivers at Tanjung Priok Port. The main issue raised is the high risk of accidents in the terminal area due to external driver behavior, the impact of which has not been scientifically validated. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with purposive sampling, primary data were collected through in-depth interviews with truck drivers, focus group discussions (FGDs) with port management, and direct field observations at critical operational points. Thematic analysis results indicate that the TSA program has proven highly effective and efficient in shifting driver safety paradigms. This success was significantly driven by a hyper-contextual curriculum and visual delivery methods that utilized real-life accident case studies at the research site. These findings demonstrate that internalization of awareness can bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world actions, even under high operational pressure. This study provides a significant contribution to port management in validating safety training investments as a sustainable risk mitigation strategy. In practice, the TSA serves as a best practice model that balances port logistics efficiency and optimal occupational safety standards to support maritime supply chain resilience.

Abstract

Maritime engineering education confronts unprecedented technological disruption requiring fundamental reconceptualization of how professional expertise transforms into pedagogical innovation. This investigation penetrates the phenomenological intersection where operational maritime knowledge encounters structured academic environments, revealing sophisticated dynamics that transcend conventional technology transfer paradigms. Through qualitative exploration of eight strategically selected participants—maritime entrepreneurs with engineering foundations and academic practitioners specializing in maritime science—this research unveils remarkable convergence around technological enhancement imperatives. Stakeholders demonstrate 92% alignment regarding current educational limitations while identifying substantial improvement trajectories across critical competency domains. The investigation reveals dramatic enhancement potential: environmental awareness competencies advance 46%, problem-solving integration capabilities improve 39% through systematic technological integration approaches. Simultaneously, concerning misalignment emerges between industry technological demands and educational preparedness, with gaps reaching 37% in predictive maintenance and 35% in environmental compliance domains. This research establishes innovative frameworks for understanding professional-academic knowledge symbiosis while creating practical pathways for sustainable technological enhancement that honors both operational expertise and educational rigor within contemporary maritime engineering contexts.

Abstract

This research examines how comprehensive maritime education prepares professionals for supply chain economic management and global trade impact assessment. Through qualitative analysis of ten Nautical Deck Engineering graduates with ten-year vocational maritime education and current leadership positions in shipping industries, the study investigates educational preparation effectiveness for economic competency development. The research employs phenomenological analysis, thematic examination, and narrative synthesis to understand professional competency evolution from educational foundation through career advancement. Results demonstrate exceptional performance across measured competency dimensions, with Supply Chain Economic Performance Index scores of 4.7 and Global Trade Economic Integration Coefficient scores of 4.6 out of 5.0. Participants generated $69.5 million annual economic value through supply chain optimization, cost reduction, and strategic positioning improvements. Thematic analysis reveals four primary competency development categories: educational foundation excellence, professional competency evolution, supply chain economic optimization, and global trade impact understanding. The findings indicate that comprehensive maritime education effectively develops analytical capabilities, strategic thinking competencies, and economic understanding essential for professional excellence in supply chain management contexts, providing substantial return on investment in maritime education and professional development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of safety training and safety knowledge on crew competence and its implications for occupational safety on board ships at PT. Gelora Persada Makmur. This research employs a quantitative research design using a survey method with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study consists of all ship crew members of PT. Gelora Persada Makmur, totaling 100 respondents. A saturated sampling technique was applied, in which the entire population was used as the research sample. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale distributed online. The collected data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method with the assistance of SmartPLS software. The results of this study are expected to indicate that safety training and safety knowledge have a positive effect on crew competence, both directly and indirectly, and that crew competence has a positive effect on occupational safety on board. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for improving operational safety management within the company

Abstract

Project schedule delays and the high risk of workplace accidents remain major issues in construction project management, particularly those related to ineffective supply management and insufficient expert workforce skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of supply management and expert workforce skills on workplace accident prevention, with schedule delays as a mediating variable at PT Daidan Group. The research design employs a quantitative descriptive approach using a survey method. The population consists of technical workers and experts, with a sample of 157 respondents selected using purposive sampling based on the Slovin formula. Data were collected through structured questionnaires using a Likert scale. The data analysis technique applied is Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that supply management and expert workforce skills have a positive and significant effect on schedule delays and workplace accident prevention. Schedule delays are also found to have a significant effect on workplace accident prevention and act as a mediating variable between independent and dependent variables. Inventory management and job knowledge dimensions are identified as dominant factors in improving operational effectiveness and workplace safety. These findings suggest that effective supply chain management and enhanced workforce competencies can significantly reduce delays and improve safety performance. The discussion highlights the importance of integrating supply management, human resource development, and project time control in creating a safe and efficient work environment. Therefore, companies are recommended to strengthen inventory control systems, enhance workforce training programs, and optimize project time management to support operational performance and sustainable safety culture
