Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT Premarital screening for HIV/AIDS is a crucial step in early detection efforts to prevent HIV transmission between partners and from mother to child in the future. Although this screening offers significant benefits, awareness and participation levels among couples planning to marry remain relatively low in Indonesia. Factors such as stigma, lack of information, and limited access serve as major barriers to the implementation of premarital HIV/AIDS screening. This initiative aims to enhance engaged couples' understanding of the importance of premarital HIV/AIDS screening, increase the coverage of HIV testing before marriage, and reduce stigma toward couples undergoing the screening. The methods used in this initiative include educational counseling for engaged couples, the provision of counseling services, and the facilitation of voluntary HIV testing. The educational sessions were conducted through interactive lectures utilizing presentations and group discussions. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests to assess participants’ knowledge improvement, along with an analysis of the participation rate in HIV screening. The counseling sessions were attended by ten engaged couples, of whom only 50% had a good understanding of premarital HIV/AIDS screening before the sessions. Following the education program, this figure increased to 85%. The educational and premarital HIV/AIDS screening activities proved effective in raising awareness and understanding among engaged couples about the importance of early HIV detection. Continuous education and stronger policy support are needed to increase screening coverage and reduce societal stigma. Keywords: Premarital Screening, HIV/AIDS, Early Detection, Counseling, Engaged Couples.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The lack of appropriate and relevant information about HIV/AIDS and supported by the curious attitude of teenagers causes teenagers to be one of the populations with high risk behavior. Apart from that, the problem of HIV/AIDS in adolescents does not only have a negative physical impact, but can also affect mental health, emotions, economic conditions and social welfare in the long term. This not only affects teenagers themselves, but also families, society and the nation so that knowledge and attitudes have an important role in shaping behavior in preventing HIV/AIDS. However, in this case it is necessary to provide information in the form of education to increase knowledge and improve their own attitudes. The method used in this service so that students can be interested and absorb the education provided more quickly is providing education through audio-visual media (video) and print media (leaflets). Health education using videos and leaflets has a more significant impact on increasing knowledge because teenagers will be more interested in videos and leaflets, making teenagers less bored of watching and reading. Keywords: Education about HIV/AIDS, Knowledge and attitudes of female students, HIV/AIDS Videos and Leaflets, SMKS.
