Abstract

This study aims to reveal the participatory-based Islamic religious education learning system at SMA Negeri 1 Parepare. A qualitative approach with a case study research method was used to answer the research problem. Data collection techniques used participant observation, structured interviews, and documentation review. Data analysis techniques used the Miles and Huberman interactive model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and verification/ conclusion drawing. While testing the validity of the data is done through credibility (trustworthiness), dependability (dependability), confirmability (certainty), and transferability (transferability). The results of this study indicate that in the context of learning Islamic religious education at SMA Negeri 1 Parepare has been based on participatory, marked by the activeness of students by using the student centered approach paradigm which is the basis of participatory learning. In its implementation, participatory learning provides space for students to actively participate in learning by using a scientific approach using the 5-M principle of questioning, trying, reasoning, associating, and creating.

Abstract

This study examines how religious moderation education is constructed at Pesantren Darul Falah Ternate using Peter L. Berger’s social construction theory. A qualitative descriptive-analytical approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using Berger’s three-stage dialectical framework: externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The findings reveal that religious moderation construction occurs through interconnected dialectical processes. Externalization manifests through the kyai’s charismatic exemplarity and comprehensive pesantren regulations. Objectivation involves inter-generational interactions that institutionalize values through the concept of barakah and habitualization processes. Internalization integrates universal Islamic teachings with Ternate local wisdom, particularly the “torang basudara” brotherhood tradition, creating contextual religious moderation that resonates with students’ cultural identities. The study demonstrates that religious moderation is not a fixed concept but a continuous social construction involving complex interactions among institutional structures, charismatic authority, peer relationships, and cultural resources. This research contributes empirical evidence showing how pesantren successfully translate abstract theological concepts into lived practices through holistic socialization processes, offering insights for developing contextually appropriate religious moderation education models.

Abstract

Background: Low student engagement in research and limited accommodation of diverse intelligences are key challenges in Islamic higher education, hindering inclusive and productive learning. Purpose: This study aims to develop a Learning by Research model integrated with Multiple Intelligence theory to enhance students’ research and scientific publication skills while optimizing their diverse intellectual potentials. Method: Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach, the model was developed and tested through iterative stages, including expert validation, limited trials, and broader implementation in experimental classes. Results: The model significantly improved students’ research skills, scientific article writing, and engagement of multiple intelligences, with average performance rising from 60% to 85%. It emphasizes six key aspects: integration of theory and practice, student-centered learning, stakeholder collaboration, technology utilization, adaptive learning, and scientific publication orientation. Conclusion: This model offers a transformative, inclusive approach to curriculum design in Islamic higher education, fostering research culture and addressing contemporary educational challenges.

Abstract

Prophet Muhammad SAW is known as a plenary figure who succeeded in transforming the pluralistic society of Medina into a harmonious and just community. This success is inseparable from his educational strategy that utilizes spiritual, social, and intellectual capital. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data sources were obtained from books of the Prophetic Sirah, hadith, and contemporary academic literature. The analysis was done thematically to identify the principles and educational strategies used by the Prophet in the social context of Medina. The research found that the Prophet Muhammad's educational strategy was rooted in the values of compassion, wisdom, and dialog. These strategies established a peaceful and inclusive social order. These values remain relevant to be applied in addressing contemporary social challenges, such as intolerance, identity crisis, and social fragmentation. This finding confirms the importance of actualizing mercy-based education in building a civilized society.
