Abstract

Abstract

Solid waste produced by oil palm mills consists of oil palm empty bunches, shells, fibers and sludge. Oil palm empty fruit bunches contain 40 percent of cellulose, 24 percent of hemicellulose, 21 percent of lignin, and 15 percent of ash. This study aims to determine the production and the income potential of oyster mushrooms by using oil palm empty fruit bunches as a growth medium. This research is a quantitative descriptive study using an experimental design approach. Analysis of variance showed that all treatments had no significant effect on the length of mycelium fulfillment, the length of the mushroom stalk, the diameter of the fruit cap and the wet weight of the fungus. Treatment with K0 without empty fruit bunches of oil palm has the same growth and production potential as treatment of K1-K4 using oil palm empty fruit bunches. Fungal growth and production are influenced by environmental, nutritional and genetic factors. The potential production of oyster mushrooms with wood sawdust and 15 baglog empty fruit bunches growing media is 5.2 kilograms with a total cost of IDR 297,250. The total revenue for twice harvests for each baglog is IDR 312,000. Therefore, to support the potential for growth and production of oyster mushrooms, oil palm empty fruit bunches can be used as a medium for growing oyster mushrooms because they have the potential for income to be used as a business.

Abstract

Catfish farming represents a strategic community-based economic activity due to its relatively low production cost, high nutritional value, and adaptability to limited land through tarpaulin pond systems. However, many small-scale catfish farming groups remain constrained by limited technical knowledge, weak market access, and the absence of value-added product diversification. This community empowerment program aimed to enhance the capacity of the Bululasiai Catfish Farming Group in Balangnipa Village, Sinjai Regency, through integrated interventions focusing on cultivation improvement, processed product diversification, packaging, marketing, and business legality. The methodology employed participatory approaches, including field surveys, focus group discussions, training sessions, and continuous mentoring to identify key challenges and local potential. The program outcomes demonstrate a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills related to sustainable catfish cultivation, processed product development such as catfish sticks and nuggets, and attractive packaging techniques. Furthermore, the initiative facilitated greater awareness of market-oriented production and compliance with business legality requirements, including Business Identification Numbers (NIB) and halal certification processes. The diversification of processed catfish products contributed to increased product value and expanded income opportunities for group members and their households. Overall, the program generated positive economic and social impacts, strengthened local entrepreneurial capacity, and provided a replicable model for empowering small-scale aquaculture communities through value-added processing and integrated market-oriented strategies.

Abstract

Business legality is a crucial foundation for strengthening the identity, credibility, and competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in rural areas. Many MSME actors face obstacles in accessing formal legality due to limited knowledge and administrative capacity. This community service program aimed to empower MSMEs in Panaikang Village, East Sinjai District, through assistance in obtaining business legality, specifically the Business Identification Number (NIB) and Halal Certification. The program employed a participatory approach consisting of an initial survey, program socialization, data collection, training sessions, and direct assistance in issuing legal documents. The target group included MSME actors engaged in food processing, snacks, beverages, and local products. The results demonstrate a significant increase in participants’ understanding of the importance of business legality, product packaging, and basic marketing strategies. Most MSME actors successfully obtained their NIB, while several culinary businesses proceeded to the halal certification application stage. This assistance also enhanced entrepreneurs’ confidence and readiness to expand market access, including participation in local MSME exhibitions. The program contributed to strengthening local economic potential and promoting sustainable community-based economic development. Overall, business legality assistance proved to be an effective empowerment strategy for improving MSME resilience, formalization, and competitiveness in rural communities. Continuous collaboration between universities, local governments, and supporting institutions is recommended to ensure sustainability and broader impact.

Abstract

Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) play a strategic role in stimulating local economic development through the management of village-based potential resources, particularly in the tourism sector. Panaikang Village, located in Sinjai Timur District, South Sulawesi, possesses significant coastal tourism potential, notably Mallenreng Beach. However, limited managerial capacity and inadequate understanding of tourism management have constrained the optimal performance of BUMDes in managing this destination. This community empowerment program aimed to strengthen the managerial capacity of BUMDes and local communities in managing Mallenreng Beach as a sustainable village tourism destination. The program was implemented through a participatory approach involving initial field surveys, problem identification, socialization, and capacity-building training activities conducted by the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) in collaboration with community service students. The activities focused on tourism management principles, destination branding, community involvement, and sustainable development strategies. The results indicate improved awareness and understanding among BUMDes managers and community members regarding tourism governance, resource utilization, and the importance of integrated management practices. Furthermore, the program contributed to the formulation of a tourism development concept emphasizing the sunrise attraction of Mallenreng Beach and supported the village’s participation in the 2023 National Tourism Village Competition. This empowerment initiative demonstrates that strengthening institutional capacity and community participation can enhance the competitiveness of village tourism, stimulate local economic growth, and support the achievement of sustainable development goals. Continuous mentoring and collaboration with higher education institutions are recommended to ensure long-term sustainability.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of qiwa>mah in QS. al-Nisa>‘/4:34 by going beyond interpretations that limit it to domestic ethics in husband-wife relationships. Through a qualitative approach based on literature study and semantic-relational analysis, this article shows that qiwa>mah not only functions as a normative status or legitimization of gender hierarchy, but also as an ethical function that arises from certain excess (fad}l) and is manifested through concrete responsibility (anfaq). By placing the family as the smallest social unit, QS. al-Nisa>‘/4:34 can be read as a pedagogical medium of the Qur’an to explain the principles of managing asymmetrical relationships ethically. This reading places qiwa>mah as a framework of the ethics of power that emphasizes protection, justice, and the prevention of injustice, and is relevant to broader social and political relations.

Abstract

This study examines the development of entrepreneurial management in utilizing tourism potential as a strategy to enhance community economic empowerment, with empirical evidence from Mallenreng Beach, Panaikang Village, Sinjai Regency, Indonesia. Despite possessing significant coastal tourism potential, Mallenreng Beach has faced persistent challenges related to weak management practices, limited human resource capacity, inadequate tourism infrastructure, low marketing capability, and the absence of business legality among local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This research adopts a community-based empowerment approach implemented through the Program for Strengthening Student Organization Capacity (PPK ORMAWA) initiated by the Scientific Writing Student Activity Unit of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sinjai. The program employed participatory methods, including needs assessment, training, mentoring, and monitoring, focusing on tourism management, MSME business legality (Business Identification Number and Halal Certification), product branding and packaging, digital marketing, and village website management. The findings demonstrate a significant improvement in managerial capacity among tourism managers, increased formalization of MSMEs through legal certification, enhanced product attractiveness and marketing reach, and improved digital promotion of village tourism potential. These outcomes contributed to increased community participation, strengthened local economic activities, and improved institutional collaboration between stakeholders. This study contributes to the literature on entrepreneurial tourism management by providing practical evidence that integrated capacity-building interventions can effectively transform local tourism resources into sustainable drivers of community economic empowerment in rural coastal areas

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of village head leadership in enhancing community participation for village development in Talle Village, South Sinjai District. The methodology employed is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that effective village head leadership can encourage active community participation in all stages of development, from planning to implementation. The research reveals that participatory decision-making and good communication between the village head and the community are crucial for enhancing citizen engagement. However, the main challenge faced is the low attendance rate of the community in planning forums, which results in a lack of input and aspirations from the community in development planning. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the need for efforts to raise awareness and motivation among the community to become more actively involved. More sustainable and innovative strategies are required to create a conducive environment for community participation in village development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine public understanding of interest (riba) and its influence on the intention to borrow from non-bank financial institutions in Padang Bindu Village. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation involving informants consisting of community members who have taken loans and representatives of non-bank financial institutions. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the community generally understands that riba refers to an additional charge in loans prohibited in Islam; however, this understanding remains general and not in-depth. Furthermore, such understanding does not significantly influence people's interest in borrowing. This is mainly due to urgent economic needs, ease of loan procedures, and social environmental influences. Additionally, some community members perceive that small amounts of interest are still acceptable. Thus, public understanding of riba has not fully influenced their financial decision-making behavior.
