Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of mathematics anxiety among seventh-grade students in class VII-A at MTs Negeri 2 Sidoarjo when learning about similarity, viewed from the perspective of gender differences. This study used a quantitative descriptive research design with 32 students as subjects, consisting of 16 male students and 16 female students. Data were collected through a mathematics anxiety questionnaire containing 30 statements covering three aspects, namely cognitive, affective, and physiological. The results showed that the overall level of mathematics anxiety was high, with an average score of 84.34. When viewed by aspect, student anxiety was in the moderate category for the cognitive aspect (27.85), high for the affective aspect (32.16), and moderate for the physiological aspect (21.73). Based on gender, female students had a higher level of anxiety (average score of 84.81) than male students (average score of 83.87). These findings indicate that gender differences affect the level of mathematics anxiety, with female students tending to experience more emotional and physical anxiety when facing mathematics lessons than male students.

Abstract

This study aims to identify misconceptions among 10th grade students at MAN 1 Lamongan regarding statistics, particularly the concept of data centralization. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a sample of 30 students selected through random sampling. The instrument is a three-tier diagnostic test consisting of five items. The test not only assesses correct or incorrect answers but also evaluates students' reasoning and level of confidence. Misconception indicators were analyzed based on a combination of answers at three levels, resulting in the following categories: understanding the concept, misconception, guessing, lucky guess, and lack of knowledge. The level of misconception was then classified into low (0%-30%), medium (31%-60%), and high (61%-100%). The results of the study show that students' misconceptions are in the moderate category, namely 58%, particularly in the concept of calculating data values based on average values. This is influenced by a lack of understanding of the meaning of the concept of average and the minimal variation in contextual questions given by teachers. The three-tier test instrument has been proven to be able to identify specific categories of misconceptions, so that it can be used as a reference for teachers in designing more appropriate learning strategies that are oriented towards conceptual understanding.

Abstract

The ability to solve problems is the ability to find a way out or answer by doing certain stages and understanding mature thinking. This study aims to describe the ability of Cambridge standard mathematical problem solving students who think critically high, medium, and low. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects in this study consisted of six students who answered correctly from class IX-1 MTs Bilingual Muslimat NU Pucang Sidoarjo. Data collection techniques are done by written tests and interviews. Data from written tests and interviews were analyzed according to indicators of critical thinking, then presented and analyzed using descriptive analysis. Based on the description and analysis of the data, it shows that students in high critical thinking categories in solving mathematical problems are of Cambridge standard, able to understand problems, plan and carry out problem solving, and re-examine problem solving. Students in the critical thinking category are currently solving Cambridge standard mathematical problems, tend to be less able to re-examine problem solving, but are able to understand problems, plan and implement problem solving. Students with low critical thinking categories in solving mathematics problems with Cambridge standards, tend to be less able in expressing planning and in re-examining problem solving, but are able to understand and carry out problem solving

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan pembelajaran ekspositori melalui metode ceramah dan tanya jawab yang diintegrasikan dengan nilai-nilai keislaman dalam pembelajaran matematika pada materi Diagram Pencar, serta menganalisis kontribusinya terhadap peningkatan motivasi belajar siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan desain studi kasus yang dilaksanakan di SMA Al-Falah Ketintang Surabaya pada siswa kelas XI A1 sebanyak 18 orang. Data diperoleh melalui angket motivasi belajar dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model analisis interaktif Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi kondensasi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran ekspositori terintegrasi nilai keislaman dilakukan melalui kegiatan doa bersama, pemberian motivasi dengan ayat Al-Qur’an, serta latihan soal kontekstual berbasis nilai spiritual. Hasil angket menunjukkan peningkatan motivasi belajar siswa dari 22,2% kategori tinggi sebelum pembelajaran menjadi 55,6% setelah pembelajaran, serta penurunan kategori rendah dari 22,2% menjadi 5,5%. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran ekspositori yang diintegrasikan dengan nilai-nilai keislaman dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar matematika karena menumbuhkan kesadaran bahwa belajar merupakan bagian dari ibadah dan pengamalan nilai spiritual.

Abstract

Studi ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengevaluasi dampak penggunaan media pembelajaran interaktif Educaplay, yang dikombinasikan dengan nilai kejujuran Islami, terhadap capaian belajar siswa kelas XII MAN Kota Surabaya dalam pokok bahasan fungsi tangga. Penelitian ini mengadopsi metodologi kuasi-eksperimen dengan rancangan one group pretest–posttest untuk membandingkan performa belajar siswa sebelum dan setelah intervensi pembelajaran dilaksanakan. Partisipan studi mencakup 34 siswa yang ditentukan melalui metode purposive sampling, dengan kriteria seleksi didasarkan pada pencapaian akademik dan kesiapan belajar. Alat ukur penelitian yang digunakan adalah tes hasil belajar matematika, yang meliputi soal pilihan ganda dan soal esai, dirancang berdasarkan indikator pencapaian kompetensi untuk materi fungsi tangga. Analisis data dilaksanakan dengan memanfaatkan statistik deskriptif guna memaparkan ciri-ciri prestasi belajar peserta didik. Selanjutnya, dilakukan pengujian normalitas sebagai landasan dalam menentukan metode analisis inferensial. Mengingat data yang ada tidak memenuhi asumsi distribusi normal, pengujian hipotesis dilaksanakan menggunakan metode Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, nilai rata-rata Hasil belajar siswa meningkat sebesar 26,66 poin dari nilai rata-rata 53,41 pada tahap pretest menjadi 77,67 pada tahap posttest, dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,000 (< 0,05), menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil pretest dan posttest. Temuan ini mendukung gagasan bahwa Educaplay adalah alat interaktif yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan matematika siswa. Selain itu, integrasi nilai kejujuran Islami menjadikan hasil belajar lebih bermakna karena mencerminkan kemampuan autentik siswa sekaligus mendukung pembentukan karakter positif.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (PBL) berbantuan media stik es krim terintegrasi nilai Islam ta’awun untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika siswa. Hasil belajar matematika siswa rendah karena kurangnya variasi model dan media pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan one-group pretest–posttest design dengan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah 31 siswa kelas VII di SMP Negeri 13 Surabaya. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes hasil belajar siswa yang terdiri dari 10 soal uraian (essay). Soal-soal ini mencakup materi Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel (PLDV). Implementasi nilai Islam dijelaskan secara terukur melalui fokus pada nilai ta’awun (tolong-menolong dalam kebaikan), khususnya dalam kerja sama kelompok. Keterlibatan siswa dalam kerja kelompok, yang mencerminkan nilai ta’awun, diamati selama tahap pelaksanaan PBL. PBL dilaksanakan dalam lima tahap. Hasil penelitian menemukan peningkatan nilai pretest terhadap posttest siswa berdasarkan hasil uji N-Gain sejumlah 0,5535. Nilai ini tergolong dalam kategori sedang dan bernilai positif, menunjukkan peningkatan hasil belajar siswa setelah penerapan model pembelajaran PBL berbantuan stik es krim terintegrasi nilai Islam.

Abstract

In the era of 21st-century education, metacognitive ability has become a key competency that supports self- directed learning and reflective thinking, particularly in science learning. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the flipped classroom model supported by interactive videos in enhancing students’ metacognitive abilities and learning engagement on the topic of Earth and the Solar System. The research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The treatment involved implementing the flipped classroom model through two stages: a pre-class phase (independent learning through interactive videos) and an in-class phase (discussion and conceptual exploration). The study involved 31 seventh-grade students of class VII J at SMPN 25 Surabaya. The instruments consisted of an essay-based metacognitive ability test aligned with the indicators of planning, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as an observational sheet for learning engagement. The instruments were validated by experts with a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability of 0.85. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test and N-gain calculation. The effectiveness criteria were determined based on a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05), an N-gain value categorized as medium to high, and an improvement in learning engagement. The results showed a significant improvement from pre-test to post-test (t = 17.462; p = 0.000), with the average score increasing from 53.55 to 91.61 and an N-gain of 0.7979 (high category). Learning engagement also increased from 65% to 92% (very good category). Thus, the interactive- video-based flipped classroom model meets the effectiveness criteria and provides strong contributions to improving students’ metacognitive abilities.Keywords: Earth and the solar system, effectiveness, flipped classroom, interactive video, metacognitive skills

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan model pembelajaran RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir analitis siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 35 Surabaya pada materi Struktur Bumi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 24 siswa kelas VIII, dan enam siswa dipilih secara purposive sampling mewakili tiga kategori kemampuan (rendah, sedang, tinggi) berdasarkan hasil tes uraian pretest dan posttest. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, dokumentasi, serta tes kemampuan berpikir analitis yang disusun berdasarkan tiga indikator berpikir analitis, yaitu: (1) menganalisis informasi dan membagi ke dalam bagian yang lebih kecil, (2) mengenali serta membedakan faktor penyebab dan akibat, dan (3) mengidentifikasi atau merumuskan pertanyaan. Model pembelajaran RADEC diterapkan sesuai lima sintaks utamanya, yaitu: (1) Read; (2) Answer; (3) Discuss; (4) Explain; (5) Create. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan berpikir analitis siswa setelah penerapan model RADEC. Nilai rata-rata pretest sebesar 62,9 meningkat menjadi 78,1 pada posttest, dengan peningkatan paling signifikan pada indikator menganalisis dan membedakan sebab-akibat. Berdasarkan kategori kemampuan berpikir analitis, rentang nilai pretest berada pada skor 30–80, sedangkan rentang nilai posttest meningkat menjadi 50–90. Secara kualitatif, siswa menunjukkan keterlibatan aktif dalam membaca, berdiskusi, menjelaskan, serta menciptakan karya. Analisis data menunjukkan bahwa model RADEC efektif mendorong siswa untuk berpikir secara analitis, melalui proses belajar bertahap yang memfasilitasi eksplorasi informasi, refleksi, dan komunikasi ide. Dengan demikian, penerapan model pembelajaran RADEC berpotensi dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir analitis siswa secara signifikan, serta menjadi alternatif strategi pembelajaran yang efektif untuk mendukung penguasaan keterampilan abad ke-21 pada pembelajaran IPA di jenjang SMP.

Abstract

Students’ cognitive learning outcomes and Science Self-Efficacy (SSE) are important factors influencing success in science learning. However, many students still demonstrate low confidence and limited understanding of Ecology, indicating the need for innovative learning models. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on cognitive learning outcomes and students' SSE in Ecology at the junior high school level. This study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group posttest-only design. The population consisted of seventh-grade students at Sekolah Indonesia Jeddah (SIJ), Saudi Arabia. Using simple random sampling, 22 students from class VII B were selected as the research sample. Data were collected using test and non-test instruments, namely an essay test to measure cognitive learning outcomes and a Science Self-Efficacy (SSE) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test as a prerequisite test, and a one-sample t-test for hypothesis testing. The results showed that the average score for students' cognitive learning outcomes was 89.59, and the average score for SSE was 84.86, with both distributions normal (Sig. > 0.05). The t-test results (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05) showed that applying the PBL model significantly improved students' cognitive learning outcomes and SSE. The highest cognitive indicator was found in C6 (create), at 92.4%, followed by C5 (evaluate), at 73.4%. In addition, the most dominant dimension of SSE is Magnitude at 75%. The results of this study indicate that the PBL model is effective on students' cognitive learning outcomes and SSE in Ecology material.

Abstract

Metacognition plays a crucial role in enhancing students’ problem-solving abilities through the processes of planning, monitoring, and evaluation, enabling more systematic and effective thinking. In addition, students’ learning styles influence how metacognitive processes are applied in solving mathematical problems. Understanding these processes allows teachers to design instructional strategies that align with students’ characteristics. This study aims to describe students’ metacognitive processes in solving mathematical problems based on VARK learning styles. A qualitative case study approach was employed involving eight tenth-grade students of MAN 2 Kota Kediri, with two students representing each learning style identified through the VARK questionnaire. Data were collected using problem-solving tests and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, with source triangulation ensuring validity. The findings reveal that visual and read/write learners demonstrate more consistent performance in understanding problems and applying strategies, although evaluation is sometimes incomplete. Auditory and kinesthetic learners tend to rely on previously learned strategies but show less consistency in monitoring and evaluating their solutions. All students exhibit confidence in their approaches based on prior experiences. Further research is recommended to explore metacognitive processes using more diverse problem types.
