Abstract

ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant public health challenge, with a rapidly increasing burden in Indonesia. Community health cadres (kader) are crucial for community-level prevention, yet many possess limited knowledge regarding DM management and prevention. This community engagement program aimed to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of health cadres within the Tahtul Yaman Primary Health Center area in Jambi City, focusing on diabetes prevention and control. This program utilized a participatory action research approach involving 15 active community health cadres. The intervention, conducted between August and September 2025, consisted of structured training modules, interactive lectures, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), skill-based simulations (including glucometer use), and the distribution of educational toolkits. A pre-test/post-test design was used to evaluate changes in knowledge, with data analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Qualitative data were gathered through reflection sessions and one-month post-training field observations. Participants showed a statistically significant improvement in knowledge regarding diabetes prevention and management. The median knowledge score increased from 60 (IQR 40–80) at pre-test to 80 (IQR 40–90) at post-test (p = 0.009). Qualitative findings revealed positive shifts in cadres’ attitudes and increased self-efficacy in communicating health information. Key themes identified included knowledge empowerment and enhanced readiness for community engagement. Follow-up observations confirmed that cadres successfully applied their new skills, such as conducting risk screenings and health education, during community Posyandu ILP sessions. A structured, participatory, and context-sensitive training program effectively enhanced the knowledge, attitudes, and practical skills of community health cadres in DM prevention. Empowering cadres through continuous mentorship and integrating such programs into local health systems offers a sustainable and scalable strategy to strengthen community resilience and advance chronic disease management. Abstract

ABSTRACT Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a mandated learning process to prepare "collaborative practice-ready" healthcare professionals. This community service aimed to enhance the capacity of teaching staff at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) Jambi University (UNJA) as competent IPE facilitators, especially in evaluating students' interprofessional reflection abilities using the validated RESPECT instrument]. The training method was applied through lectures, discussions, and role-playing on giving constructive feedback. The activity successfully delivered material on reflection instruments and facilitator competencies to the target of 30 teaching staff. Facilitators were trained to be role models who emphasize reflection at both the professional and interprofessional levels, which is crucial for building a strong collaborative mindset and overcoming prejudices between professions. The result of this community service is a targeted increase in faculty capacity to assess student reflection, ensuring IPE implementation supports the creation of comprehensive healthcare services. Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) and reproductive health remain major issues in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), including Darul Ikhwan Islamic Boarding School in Batanghari Regency. This community service program aims to empower students as peer educators through intensive training based on a digital pocketbook, with support from the Maro Sebo Ilir Community Health Center and the Danau Embat Village Government. Twenty-five students were selected from a pool of 50 students based on their communication skills and recommendations from their boarding school supervisors. The program, conducted in August 2025, began with a pre-test, presentation of material on reproductive health and PHBS, peer communication skills practice, and a post-test evaluation. Analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed a significant increase in students' knowledge (p=0.000), with 96% of participants experiencing an increase in their post-test scores. In addition to increased knowledge, all participants demonstrated effective communication skills, conveying health messages in a relaxed, participatory manner that was easily understood by their peers. The program results demonstrate that peer educator training can increase the capacity of students as agents of healthy behavior change in Islamic boarding schools. In conclusion, peer educator training was effective in improving students' knowledge and communication skills regarding reproductive health and PHBS. It is recommended that this program be expanded to include more students and provide cross-sector support to strengthen the sustainability of health education within Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is an infection that attacks the immune system, specifically white blood cells called CD4 cells. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is the final stage of HIV infection, which occurs when the immune system is severely damaged by the virus. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge levels and attitudes toward HIV/AIDS prevention behavior. Method: This study employed a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample was obtained through random sampling, with a total of 502 respondents from grade 11 of public high schools in Jambi City. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods using the chi-square test. The research instrument used a structured questionnaire. Results: Of the 502 respondents, 119 students (51.1%) had a moderate to poor level of knowledge, while 170 students (33.9%) had a good level of knowledge. Regarding attitudes, 107 students (21.3%) showed fair to poor attitudes, and 177 students (35.3%) had good attitudes. There was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes and HIV/AIDS prevention behavior among public high school students in Jambi City in 2024 (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The majority of students have less-moderate knowledge, mostly positive attitudes, but good behavior is still low, so educational intervention is needed to improve students' knowledge, attitudes and behavior.

Abstract

Background: Pneumonia remains a major cause of morbidity among toddlers in Indonesia, with household exposure to cigarette smoke acting as a significant and preventable risk factor. Posyandu cadres play a crucial role in community-based child health services; however, their capacity to screen environmental risks and perform early detection of respiratory compromise is often limited. Center, Simpang Kawat Community Health Center, and Paal X Community Health Center in 2024. This community service program aimed to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of Posyandu cadres in pneumonia prevention through smoking exposure screening and pulse oximeter training Method: A community-based intervention with a pre-test and post-test design was conducted among 20 Posyandu cadres in the working area of the Olak Kemang Community Health Centre, Jambi City. The intervention consisted of interactive health education on secondhand and thirdhand smoke, a humanistic approach using case-based discussions, hands-on training in pulse oximeter use, and the introduction of a household smoking exposure screening tool. Changes in cadres’ knowledge were evaluated using structured questionnaires administered before and after the intervention. Results: The average knowledge score increased from 65% at baseline to 86% after the intervention, representing an absolute increase of 21 percentage points and a relative improvement of 32.31%, exceeding the predefined success criterion of a ≥20% increase. Conclusion: The program was effective in enhancing Posyandu cadres’ understanding of smoking-related health risks and their ability to perform early hypoxia detection using pulse oximetry. Strengthening cadre capacity through integrated and practical training may support community-based pneumonia prevention and promote healthier, smoke-free environments for toddlers
