Abstract

Ada beberapa masalah yang peneliti temukan dilapangan pada proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang menjadi latar belakang penelitian ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan menyelidiki adakah pengaruh dan perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pemahaman membaca siswa dengan menerapkan strategi PQ4R pada pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dengan materi teks recount di kelas X MAN 4 Tanah Datar. Tujuan selanjutnya adalah untuk menemukan apakah strategi PQ4R lebih baik digunakan daripada strategi konvensional. Jenis penelitian yang penliti gunakan ialah kuantitatif yang menggunakan metode eksperimen dan menggunakan desain kuasi eksperimen. Adapun populasi ialah siswa kelas X MAN 4 Tanah Datar. Tes membaca dilakukan sebagai teknik untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan SPSS versi 26.00 untuk menganalisis data dalam penelitian ini. Dari analisis data yang dihasilkan, ada pengaruh yang signifikan dalam hasil belajar siswa yang menerapkan strategi PQ4R. Ini dibuktikan berdasarkan rata-rata kelas experimen pada pretest dan posttest yang telah dilakukan. Selanjutnya dari analisis data yang dihasilkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara penggunaan strategi PQ4R dengan strategi konvensional. Berdasarkan hasil belajar siswa (posttest) kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen diketahui rata-rata nilainya 69,55 untuk kelas kontrol dan 75,60 untuk kelas eksperimen. Dari rangkaian analisis yang dihasilkan, bisa diambil simpulan bahwa penggunaan strategi PQ4R lebih baik daripada penggunaan strategi konvensional pada siswa kelas X MAN 4 Tanah Datar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh beberapa permasalahan terkait penggunaan buku teks Bahasa Inggris di kelas. Sebagian siswa terlihat kurang berminat dalam membaca dan memahami materi dalam buku teks tersebut. Selain itu, sebagian besar siswa memperoleh nilai rendah di bawah batas nilai yang telah ditetapkan. Selain itu, guru mengalami beberapa permasalahan dalam penggunaan buku teks. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui langkah-langkah yang dapat digunakan oleh guru dalam mengajar Bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan buku teks. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana guru menggunakan buku teks di kelas. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif, dengan desain penelitian inkuiri naratif. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah guru Bahasa Inggris yang mengajar kelas IX. Untuk menentukan partisipan penelitian, peneliti menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan instrumen berupa daftar periksa observasi dan wawancara. Peneliti mengamati guru di kelas, setelah itu peneliti mewawancarai guru yang telah selesai peneliti amati saat mengajar di kelas. Hasil penelitian ini adalah dari 15 indikator, terdapat 5 indikator yang tidak terlaksana oleh guru, yaitu; (1) Guru tidak menggunakan teknik pembukaan yang menarik perhatian siswa terhadap materi. (2) Guru tidak menggunakan metode mengajar yang bervariasi seperti ceramah, diskusi kelompok, permainan, atau proyek. (3) Guru tidak menyisipkan kegiatan yang memungkinkan siswa berpartisipasi aktif, seperti bermain peran, simulasi, atau bermain peran. (4) Guru tidak menggunakan penilaian formatif untuk memantau kemajuan belajar siswa secara berkala. (5) Guru tidak mengulang konsep yang sulit dipahami siswa. Hal ini kemungkinan besar menjadi penyebab kurang efektifnya proses belajar mengajar dengan menggunakan buku teks di kelas, sehingga mengakibatkan kurang optimalnya prestasi belajar yang dicapai siswa kelas IX MTSN 10 Agam.

Abstract

The confusion of lecturers in teaching English with specific and suitable material for students who choose majors other than the English department is the main problem mostly encountered found by the writers is the basic reason for conducting this research. The main purpose of having this article is to fill the absence of material provided for students in Accounting Department in Riau University. Through descriptive methods, qualitative approaches and instruments used in the form of a close- ended questionnaire in which the form of questions refer to the need analysis proposed by Hutchinson & Water (necessities, wants, and lacks) of the students, initialized and complemented with their latest English language level and an adaptation questionnaire from Adnan was researched as well. The data was obtained from a number of students majoring in Accounting for academic year of 2020/2021 class E at the Faculty of Economics, Riau University which were converted to frequency and rounded to a percentage. Dominated by students who have basic English skills, the students have various necessities, wants, and lacks in learning English. Eventually based on the finding, a proposed material model was framed.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of English textbooks for economics in aligning with the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, which integrates technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge to enhance language learning. Descriptive qualitative was applied in this study. The analysis focused on four English textbooks: Career Path: Banking, Career Path: Business English, General English Material for Economic Students, and English for Islamic Banking. The evaluation revealed several limitations in these textbooks, such as inadequate alignment with economic content, lack of clear target audience and instructional objectives, insufficient technology integration, and minimal opportunities for interactive and dynamic learning experiences. These deficiencies were found to delay the development of essential language skills, including grammar, pronunciation, and communication, which are crucial for academic and professional success in the field of economics and banking. Furthermore, the analysis highlighted the absence of diverse activities that connect language skills with real-world applications, limiting the students' ability to effectively apply their knowledge in relevant scenarios. The textbooks also lacked comprehensive instructional support for listening and writing skills, critical thinking, and digital literacy, which are vital components of a modern, technology-enhanced learning environment. The study suggests that a more tailored approach, incorporating the TPACK framework, is necessary to address these gaps. By fostering interactive and immersive learning experiences, future textbooks can better meet the specific needs of economics students, promote active participation, and enhance both linguistic competence and digital literacy skills in preparation for global economic challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to increase and strengthen as well as strengthen understanding of leadership and behavioral theory in organizations through the leadership of Islamic Education Management, the formation of scientific understanding for students that displays Islamic Education management in the leadership concept of Tan Malaka. The activities carried out are based on reinforcement carried out by Postgraduate students in Islamic Management Education, which are carried out directly at the home of Tan Malaka's birth, and can get to know any historical heritage from Tan Malaka and can directly discuss with the surrounding community. and strengthening the concept of Tan Malaka's leadership given related to the concept of Tan Malaka's leadership. With this strengthening it is able to understand correctly how the concept of leadership from Tan Malaka, the research results obtained from strengthening the concept of Tan Malaka's leadership have a positive influence on students.

Abstract

Collaborative learning remains to be a range that is progressively getting consideration in academic fields.  As it has many advantages to individual student learning. One of collaborative learning methods is small group discussion. Furthermore, this study was aimed at describing the result of students’ evaluation of the learning experiences in a small group discussion in the third semester of English education students in UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek (SMDD) Bukittinggi based on the Students Experience Questionnaire (SEQ). This study is categorized as a quantitative study. This descriptive quantitative research collected data by distributing a questionnaire to the third-semester students. The issues addressed are students’ learning experiences in doing a small group discussion. Based on the data analysis, the result showed that the third-semester students had a good learning experience in all aspects; in the good teaching scale, understanding of learning, assessment, appropriate workload, the skills of affective and psychomotor, motivation, and satisfaction with the module used during the learning process through the small group discussion. However, the teachers still need to improve their ability in managing small group discussions.

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the effect of using (RCRR) strategy towards student’s reading comprehension on narrative text at the ninth grade of UPT SMP Negri 1 Padang Gelugur. The rationality of this research was based on the students’ problems in reading comprehension. Firstly, the students’ achievements on reading comprehension narrative text was still low. Secondly, the strategy taken by the teacher in class was monotonous. Thirdly, the srtudents had difficulties on comprehending the detailed information on narrative text. This research employed quantitative method. In this research, the researcher used purposive sampling. The population of this research was the IX grade students at UPT SMP Negeri 1 Padang Gelugur. The research instrument of this research was reading test, which were tested for pre-test and post-test session. In this research, the researcher used descriptive and inferential statistic to analyzed the data. The result of the research indicated that was significant effect of using RCRR strategy towards students’ redading comprehension. It can be seen from p-value which was smaller than the alpha value(0,000<0,05). It is concluded that, using RCRR strategy gave significant effect towards students’ reading comprehension on narrative text.

Abstract

This research was done due to several problems that found by the researcher. This research was aimed to find out the effect of using skimming technique in students reading comprehension to find out main idea on narrative text. This research was conducted at the ninth grade of Mts Ti Paninggahan. In this study, the researcher used quantitative method with pre-experimental design by comparing the students’ pre-test and post-test scores. To determine the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling and choosed one class as experimental class. The subject of this study ninth grade that consist of 18 students. The data was analyzed using t-test formula. The result shown that there were significant difference on the students reading comprehension to find out main idea after taught used skimming technique. The students mean score of the post-test was 78,33, it is bigger than mean score of pre-test was 46,11. The researcher used t-test formula by comparing score of pre-test and post-test through SPSS. Based on the output statistic, the value of Sig (2-tailed) is 0,00 < 0,05. It means that Ha is accepted. It means that the students who are taught using skimming technique is better than the students who are taught before using skimming technique. In short, skimming technique has a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension to find out main idea on narrative text at Mts Ti Paninggahan.

Abstract

This research was due to the problems that were found in MTsN 13 AGAM. The first some of students did not know how to differentiate the countable and uncountable nouns. The second, some of students felt reluctant to write in English. The third, some of students had limited vocabulary. Furthermore,  this research is aimed to find out how was the student’s ability on countable and uncountable nouns in writing descriptive text of MTsN 13 Agam. The researcher used quantitative research. The population in this research was MTsN 13 Agam. There were four classes for the ninth grade students in MTsN 13 Agam. the total population was 105 students from class nine of MTSN 13 Agam. The researcher used cluster random sampling in choosing the sample. The total sample of this study was 24 students. The instrument that use for this research was written test. The researcher gave the students 45 minutes time, and the researcher ordered the students to write a descriptive text. In conclusion, this research has provided valuable insights into the students' ability in using countable and uncountable nouns in writing descriptive texts. The findings showed that the students have a relatively good proficiency in this aspect. Based on the data above, it can be concluded that the majority of the students have good to excellent ability in using countable nouns where 23 students can use at least 3 countable nouns in their writing and only one of them that cannot use any countable noun. However, the same cannot be said for uncountable nouns as there are more students who scored poorly in this area where the total of 13 students got the score between 0-40 which categorized as poor. This could be due to various reasons such as lack of exposure to English as a language, limited.

Abstract

This study was conducted to address the issues observed in SMPN 30 Sijunjung. The identified issues were students' tendency to complan. when the teacher did not provide further explanation in Bahasa during audio activities, difficulty in comprehending native speakers due to their fast pace, lack of focus during video or movie-based listening activities, and confusion regarding certain vocabulary. The aim of this research is to compare the effectiveness of using video and audio as media in students' listening comprehension.A quantitative research approach was utilized in this study. The design was comparative with VIII.1 and VIII.2 as the sample classes, each taught using either video or audio. The data was collected through a listening test.Based on the data gathered from the eighth grade students of SMPN 30 Sijunjung, it was concluded that there is no significant difference in the overall scores of students' listening comprehension when using video or audio. However, the findings showed variations in specific listening skills, with the video group performing better in distinguishing sounds and the audio group excelling in decoding verbal messages. Additionally, both groups had similar levels of ability in perceiving and retaining the entire message. These results suggest that both video and audio can equally facilitate students' listening comprehension.
