Abstract

The precise definition and presentation of concepts play a crucial role in students’ understanding of advanced mathematics. This study aims to analyze the alignment of the content in the Multivariable Calculus textbook with mathematically correct concepts and to identify sections that may lead to misconceptions. The method employed is a qualitative-descriptive analysis through content analysis, focusing on definitions, explanations, and example problems presented in the Multivariable Calculus textbook under study. The analysis results indicate several inaccuracies in the presentation, such as inconsistent use of symbols and unclear explanations of concepts. These inaccuracies have the potential to hinder students’ conceptual understanding. This study recommends a thorough review of the content in the Multivariable Calculus textbook to ensure conformity with mathematical principles and to support the learning process.

Abstract

Textbooks play a central role in multivariable calculus instruction because they are the main reference for lecturers and students to understand important concepts such as vector spaces, linear transformations, multivariable functions, parametric curves, curvature, and coordinate systems. Inaccuracies in the presentation of concepts, definitions, or examples in textbooks can potentially cause long-lasting misconceptions and hinder successful learning at the university level. Given this urgency, this study aims to analyze errors and formulate suggestions for improvement for the textbook Multivariable Calculus by Don Shimamato, so that the content quality and its suitability as a textbook can be assessed more systematically and objectively. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library-research design and content analysis technique. The main data source is the full text of Multivariable Calculus by Don Shimamato, while supporting data sources include standard textbooks in calculus, analysis, linear algebra, topology, and differential geometry, as well as relevant mathematics education journal articles. Data were collected through thorough reading, identification of sections potentially containing errors, systematic recording, and directed comparison with standard reference works. The results indicate that the book contains various forms of errors, which can be classified into four main categories: (1) conceptual errors, related to formulations and explanations of concepts that are not aligned with standard definitions; (2) ontological errors, consisting of misinterpretations concerning the type and status of mathematical objects; (3) terminological errors, concerning the use of mathematical terminology and language that are imprecise or inconsistent; and (4) technical errors, consisting of mistakes in calculations, notation, and examples. Such errors have the potential to cause misconceptions and obscure students’ understanding if the book is used without additional clarification or correction. Based on these findings, the study formulates several suggestions for improvement in the form of rewriting definitions, explanations, and examples in accordance with standard literature and the characteristics of undergraduate students. In general, the results of this research emphasize the importance of critical review and academic scrutiny of mathematics textbooks used in teaching, and show that error analysis of textbooks is an important step in the effort to improve the quality of multivariable calculus teaching at universities.

Abstract

This research was conducted to assess the quality of Scaffolding and visualization in the presentation of the Mathematics Module material for Grade X KD 3.2 regarding 3D vector material. The approach used in this research is a qualitative descriptive approach, which is carried out by analyzing the structure of the material, illustrations, example questions, and exercises provided in the module using content analysis techniques. The focus of the analysis conducted leads to several main aspects, including: (1) The sequence and form of Scaffolding presented as support in understanding the concept gradually, and (2) The effectiveness of visualization to help define and organize spatial vector data in space. This research resulted in a finding that the module has used Scaffolding with a tiered presentation of concepts, starting from the initial stage, namely the introduction of vector material in space to the stage of applying operations on vectors. However, on the other hand, it was also found that there are several stages of this Scaffolding that are not consistent, namely in the transition from examples to exercises which require a higher level of independence. Based on the visualization, the module utilizes spatial coordinate diagrams and vector arrow representations. However, some visuals lack detail in depicting orientation and depth in space, potentially leading to misconceptions among students. Overall, the module provides sufficient support for learning, but further strengthening of conceptual visualizations and more systematic Scaffolding is needed to optimally facilitate students' spatial thinking.

Abstract

Artikel ini menyajikan analisis kritis terhadap buku CLP-3 Multivariable Calculus karya Feldman, Rechnitzer, dan Yeager dengan fokus pada kekuatan pedagogis, potensi kesalahan konseptual, dan implikasinya bagi pembelajaran Kalkulus Multivariabel. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui analisis dokumen, dengan menelaah secara sistematis struktur bab, alur penyajian materi, representasi konsep kunci (limit multivariabel, turunan parsial, gradien, optimasi, dan integral lipat), serta konsistensi notasi dan ketepatan rumus. Analisis dilengkapi dengan perbandingan terhadap beberapa buku dan sumber kalkulus multivariabel lain yang diakui secara luas.Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa CLP-3 Multivariable Calculus memiliki sejumlah kekuatan utama, antara lain struktur materi yang runtut, keterkaitan yang kuat dengan kalkulus satu variabel melalui strategi daur ulang konsep, penggunaan visualisasi geometris dan alat bantu prosedural (misalnya tree diagrams untuk Chain Rule), serta kelimpahan latihan yang disertai petunjuk dan solusi. Di sisi lain, ditemukan beberapa kelemahan, seperti status buku yang masih bersifat work in progress, ketergantungan pada seri CLP sebelumnya, penempatan konsep penting (misalnya Jacobian dalam koordinat umum) sebagai materi opsional, serta sejumlah ketidaktepatan notasi, rumus, dan penulisan yang berpotensi menimbulkan miskonsepsi. Implikasi dari temuan tersebut adalah bahwa CLP-3 Multivariable Calculus tetap layak digunakan sebagai buku ajar utama pada mata kuliah Kalkulus Multivariabel yang berorientasi pada pemahaman konseptual dan pembuktian, dengan syarat penggunaannya disertai klarifikasi konsep oleh dosen, pemanfaatan lembar errata, serta integrasi dengan bahan pendamping yang menyesuaikan konteks mahasiswa. Selain itu, analisis ini menegaskan pentingnya peninjauan kritis terhadap buku teks matematika sebelum dan selama digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Pengelolaan arsip yang efisien sangat penting untuk mendukung kelancaran administrasi pemerintahan desa, termasuk di Desa Gagakan, Kecamatan Sambong, Jawa Tengah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis prosedur pengelolaan arsip di Balai Desa Gagakan dan mengidentifikasi kendala yang dihadapi dalam upaya meningkatkan efisiensi dan ketertiban administrasi. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan analisis dokumen terkait pengelolaan arsip. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan arsip di Desa Gagakan masih mengandalkan sistem manual, dengan arsip yang sebagian besar disimpan dalam bentuk fisik tanpa pengkodean atau pengelompokan yang memadai. Selain itu, keterbatasan fasilitas penyimpanan, rendahnya penggunaan teknologi, serta kurangnya pelatihan mengenai pengelolaan arsip digital menjadi hambatan utama. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa prosedur pemeliharaan dan penyusutan arsip tidak terorganisir dengan baik, mengakibatkan pemborosan ruang penyimpanan dan memperlambat pelayanan administrasi. Berdasarkan temuan ini, disarankan untuk meningkatkan penggunaan teknologi dengan pelatihan yang memadai, memperbaiki fasilitas penyimpanan arsip, serta mengembangkan sistem pengkodean yang jelas. Implementasi prosedur pemeliharaan dan penyusutan arsip yang rutin juga perlu diperhatikan untuk meningkatkan efisiensi pengelolaan arsip di Desa Gagakan.   Efficient archive management is crucial to support the smooth administration of village government, including in Gagakan Village, Sambong District, Central Java. This study aims to analyze the archive management procedures at the Gagakan Village Office and identify the challenges faced in improving efficiency and administrative order. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis related to archive management. The findings indicate that archive management at the Gagakan Village Office still relies on a manual system, with most of the archives stored in physical form without proper coding or categorization. Additionally, the limited storage facilities, low use of technology, and lack of training in digital archive management are major obstacles. The study also found that the procedures for archiving maintenance and disposal are not well-organized, leading to inefficient use of storage space and delayed administrative services. Based on these findings, it is recommended to enhance the use of technology with adequate training, improve archive storage facilities, and develop a clear coding system. Furthermore, the implementation of routine archive maintenance and disposal procedures should be prioritized to improve the efficiency of archive management in Gagakan Village.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the efforts to introduce Nusantara culture through learning Arabic-Malay script at TPQ Jamiatul Berkah, Bagan Pete Village, Jambi City. As part of Nusantara's cultural heritage, Arabic-Malay script has deep historical and cultural significance, but is currently increasingly marginalized among the younger generation. This research was conducted using qualitative descriptive methods, through observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. The results show that learning Arabic-Malay script at TPQ Jamiatul Berkah not only functions to improve religious literacy, but also as a means of introducing local cultural identity to students. Through this activity, students are not only able to read and write Arabic-Malay script, but also understand the cultural values ​​inherited in it. Thus, learning Arabic-Malay script plays an important role in preserving Nusantara culture while raising awareness of the younger generation about the importance of maintaining ancestral cultural heritage.
