Abstract

In this study, the researcher analyzed the emotional expressions in three selected songs from Frank Ocean’s Blonde album, namely Ivy, Self-Control, and Godspeed. The research applies Parrott’s (2001) theory of emotions, which categorizes emotions into three levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary. A descriptive qualitative method was used to identify the emotions conveyed in the song lyrics. The findings show that the lyrics depict various emotions. Primary emotions, such as surprise and sadness, arise from spontaneous reactions. Secondary emotions, like hope and longing, are revealed through deeper reflections. Tertiary emotions, which are more complex, reflect emotional maturity and acceptance, as seen in the lyric "I let go of my claim on you, it is a free world." This study concludes that the Blonde album not only presents simple emotional reactions but also portrays a deep and complex emotional journey. These findings provide insights into how emotions are expressed through song lyrics and can serve as a reference for further studies in music and linguistics. Keywords: Emotions, Parrott’s theory, Frank Ocean, Blonde.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of movement-based arts into German language instruction to enhance students’ speaking skills. The “From Movement to Words” approach treats bodily movement as an expressive and cognitively enriching medium rather than a simple visual aid. The method fosters linguistic, emotional, and symbolic engagement by incorporating gestures, embodiment, improvisation, and dance. A qualitative design was employed through classroom observation, in-depth interviews, and reflective documentation to capture pedagogical effects and experiential dimensions of learning. Findings show that movement integration improves pronunciation, vocabulary retention, and fluency while strengthening confidence, emotional involvement, and creative expression. Students described the process as more dynamic, immersive, and meaningful than conventional instruction. The study demonstrates that movement-based teaching provides a holistic, engaging, and learner-centered approach that supports cognitive and affective development. This approach affirms the potential of embodied instruction to align language learning with the evolving demands of 21st-century education.

Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis of Indonesia's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the newly implemented Merdeka Curriculum, utilizing Richards' curriculum development theory as a theoretical framework. Through document analysis, teacher interviews, and classroom observations across multiple Indonesian schools, this research examines both curricula across six key dimensions: goals, content, pedagogy, assessment, flexibility, and teacher autonomy. Findings reveal that while CBC emphasizes standardized competencies and measurable outcomes, the Merdeka Curriculum offers greater flexibility, student-centered approaches, and enhanced teacher autonomy. The transition reflects Indonesia's educational reform agenda to address 21st-century learning needs while respecting local contexts. Richards' framework proves particularly valuable in identifying systematic strengths and weaknesses in both approaches. The Merdeka Curriculum demonstrates significant potential for fostering creativity and critical thinking but faces implementation challenges related to resource distribution and teacher readiness. This study offers insights for policymakers, curriculum developers, and educational practitioners navigating curriculum reforms in similar contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates how netizens express respect toward President Joko Widodo’s government through comments on TikTok, one of the most influential digital platforms used by Indonesian youth. Respect, as a moral and social construct, encompasses both recognition of an individual’s status and appraisal of their actions. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, thirty TikTok comments were purposively selected from five highly viewed accounts discussing Jokowi’s leadership. The data were analyzed through discourse analysis to identify linguistic expressions of recognition respect and appraisal respect in the comments. The findings indicate that netizens display appraisal respect by praising concrete policy outcomes such as pandemic assistance (free electricity credit, food subsidies, and monthly allowances), social welfare programs (BPJS and KIP), and infrastructure development (including toll roads and renewable energy projects). Recognition respect emerges through acknowledgment of Jokowi’s leadership qualities, including sincerity, humility, patience, and simplicity, as well as his symbolic status as a national figure. Emotional expressions, such as sadness toward his retirement and admiration for his legacy, further demonstrate the affective dimension of political respect in digital communities. The results suggest that respect in online political discourse is multidimensional, combining evaluative appreciation of governmental achievements with recognition of leadership identity. This research contributes to understanding how youth-dominated digital spaces construct political respect and provide insight into contemporary perceptions of governance in Indonesia.
