Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the problem-based learning model on the learning outcomes of reaction rate material in class XI students at SMAN 1 Lingsar. The type of research employed is a quasi-experiment, specifically a non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study consisted of all the students in class XI MIPA at SMAN 1 Lingsar, totaling 143 students divided into 4 classes. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The samples in this study were class XI MIPA 2 as the experimental class and XI MIPA 3 as the control class. The experimental class employs a problem-based learning model, while the control class utilizes a conventional learning model. The student learning outcomes were focused on the reaction rate material in the cognitive domain. The data analysis test used in this study is the t-test Gain. The gain in the experimental class (0.47) was greater than the gain in the control class (0.28). The analysis results showed that tcount (3.45) > ttable (2.03) at the 5% significance level, indicating a positive and significant effect of the problem-based learning model on the learning outcomes of reaction rate material for class XI students at SMAN 1 Lingsar.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the chemical representation abilities of students at the macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic levels in acid-base material practicums in class XI Science of SMAN 2 Mataram. The type of research is descriptive quantitative. The study population was 288 students of class XI SMAN 2 Mataram. The research sample was selected using purposive sampling technique obtained by class XI Science 7 students totaling 36 students and class XI Science 8 students totaling 36 students. Data collection techniques used interview, observation, documentation, and test instruments. Data analysis used N-gain percentage. The results showed that students' initial chemical representation abilities were relatively low, with an average pretest of 34.50% (macroscopic), 31.00% (submicroscopic), and 35.00% (symbolic). After the lab-based learning, posttest results showed significant improvements at all levels of representation, namely 85.25% (macroscopic), 78.25% (submicroscopic), and 76.50% (symbolic). The average total improvement increased from 33.50% to 79.99%, and is considered good. These results indicate that the chemistry lab is effective in improving students' representational skills on acid-base material.
