Abstract

Religious extremism remains a persistent challenge in plural societies, requiring communication-based approaches that are both socially grounded and normatively legitimate. This study examines how a hadith-based religious moderation communication strategy, drawing on selected traditions from Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, is implemented to prevent and address religious extremism in Labuhanbatu, Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative field study, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight key informants representing the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Indonesian Ulama Council, religious extension workers, lecturers, and community leaders, complemented by participatory observation and document analysis. The study applies a grounded theory approach involving initial coding, categorical clustering, and analytical filtering to identify dominant patterns of moderation communication. The findings reveal a three-pillar model of hadith-based moderation communication. First, qaulan karima functions as a preventive strategy through community-based religious moderation programmes initiated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Second, qaulan layyina operates as a dialogical mechanism to reduce tension and manage potential conflict, particularly through inter-institutional and interfaith dialogue facilitated by the Indonesian Ulema Council. Third, qaulan sadida serves as an intervention-oriented approach, enabling flexible mediation and rehabilitative communication in situations of escalating religious tension. This integrative communication model has contributed to reducing social polarisation and strengthening tolerance without promoting theological relativism. The study contributes to dakwah and social-religious communication scholarship by conceptualising hadith-based moderation as a practical communication framework for preventing extremism in plural social contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the marketing communication model implemented by Bank Sumut Syariah KCP Binjai in increasing public interest in saving. The research is motivated by persistent problems of limited public understanding, skepticism, and trust issues toward Islamic banking products, which negatively affect saving intentions. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, using in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving branch leaders, account officers, and customer service staff. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, supported by triangulation to ensure data validity. The results indicate that Bank Sumut Syariah KCP Binjai employs a relational, value-based marketing communication model rather than a transactional approach. Face-to-face communication is identified as the most effective strategy, supported by a structured six-step sales process and the application of Islamic communication principles, namely qaulan layyinan, qaulan sadidan, and qaulan balighan. These principles strengthen credibility, build customer trust, and enhance customer satisfaction, which in turn increases public interest in saving. The study concludes that ethical, effective, and sharia-compliant marketing communication plays a significant role in fostering the sustainable growth of Islamic banking in Indonesia.

Abstract

The discussion of symbolic interaction emphasizes more on the motives underlying human actions. Symbolic interaction states that all human actions are based on two motives, namely the motive for (in order to motive) and the motive because (because to motive). Both motives are in the mind of a person who does the act and no one else knows. In Islam, this motive can be called the intention that underlies the act. This intention is important because it is the cause of the acceptance or rejection of an action. Therefore, it is necessary to critique this theory from the perspective of Islamic communication. The results of the criticism of this theory from an Islamic perspective are, first, behavior must be carried out with good motives and intended because of God as the owner of power. Although sometimes in life, there are also many motivations for human behavior that are for other than God. Second, human behavior is not entirely born of his will, but there is also God's will in it. Third, Islam recommends that confirmation be carried out to see the motives of actions.

Abstract

This study examines Restorasi Indonesia as a political vision articulated through the political communication strategy of Surya Paloh in the digital era, in response to the increasing mediatization of political discourse within Indonesia’s contemporary democratic landscape. The research addresses how the vision of national restoration is constructed, disseminated, and transformed through digital political communication practices to influence public perception and political engagement. Employing a qualitative approach, this study utilizes discourse analysis to investigate Surya Paloh’s communication strategies across digital platforms, including speeches, social media narratives, and mediated political messaging. The findings indicate that the articulation of Restorasi Indonesia operates not merely as an ideological construct but as a communicative framework that adapts to the dynamics of digital media through symbolic narratives, strategic framing, and audience-oriented messaging. This transformation reflects a shift from conventional political mobilization toward digitally mediated persuasion, enabling the political vision to maintain relevance in a rapidly evolving information ecosystem. The study argues that the effectiveness of Restorasi Indonesia as a political vision is closely linked to its communicative adaptability, where strategic digital engagement becomes central to shaping political legitimacy and sustaining ideological resonance in the public sphere.

Abstract

The digital era creates a complex environment for Generation Alpha, immersed in technology from birth. This study aims to investigate how families, through communication patterns, facilitate innovation and healthy identity formation amidst the pressures of digital culture. Using a qualitative approach with a multi-family case study design with six subjects, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of communication artifacts. The results show that democratic and participatory communication patterns are significantly correlated with children's innovative capacity. Families that adopt a concept-oriented approach, emphasizing the exchange of ideas and the appreciation of differing opinions, are able to produce individuals with greater cognitive flexibility and resilience. Key findings identify psychological safety as a crucial mediator, enabling families to function as "identity laboratories" where children experiment with digital personas before consolidating authentic identities. The study concludes that transforming parents' roles into digital mentors is crucial for bridging the generation gap through active mediation. By integrating family values and digital influences, children can become thoughtful innovators and responsible digital citizens.

Abstract

Abstract

The increasing number of elderly Hajj pilgrims in Medan City presents specific challenges in religious services, particularly related to physical decline, communication barriers, and the need for emotional support. These conditions often affect the quality of worship experiences among elderly pilgrims. This study aims to analyze the role of interpersonal communication in religious services for elderly Hajj pilgrims and to formulate an effective communication model that ensures a safe, comfortable, and meaningful worship experience. This research employs a qualitative approach, with field research and descriptive analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observations, and documentation involving companions, elderly members of the Hajj Guidance Group (KBIH), administrators, health workers, and pilgrims’ families. Data validity was ensured through triangulation and member checking techniques. The results indicate that interpersonal communication plays a strategic role as a medium for empathy, adaptation, and problem-solving in assisting elderly pilgrims. An effective communication model is characterized by patience, empathy, simple, clear language, two-way communication, and active family involvement. Companions adapt their communication styles to the physical and psychological conditions of the elderly; health workers use visual and nonverbal communication to enhance understanding; and families support the communication process through regular meetings and digital platforms such as WhatsApp. This communication model significantly improves the quality of religious services and worship experiences for elderly Hajj pilgrims.
