Abstract

Background: Indonesia is currently experiencing Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic which affects all sectors of life, therefore Indonesia is starting to prepare for New Normal era, including in health care sector. COVID-19 was previously known as novel Coronavirus Disease-19 (nCoV-19), where World Health Organization (WHO) declared it as a global pandemic in March 2020. New Normal era is an era of coexistence with COVID-19, resulting in new habits that were rarely or never practiced before. One practice that can be applied in health care sector is to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to treat COVID-19 patients to prevent casualties for health workers. Health care providers are prone to contract aerosol and droplet transmission while treating patients, resulting in cytokine storm, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and acute lung injury (ALI), which leads to death. Purpose: This mini review study used to explain the using of artificial intelligence in the new normal era against pandemic COVID-19 in the field of health services. Reviews: This pandemic COVID-19 restricts all of the communication between person to person. It also challenged the health service sector because the health service sector is the first line to combat the COVID-19. It is now popular to use artificial intelligence. This using can be used to help the health service sector in combating the COVID-19 pandemic especially in this new normal era. Conclusion: COVID-19 pandemic affects all aspects of life, especially health care sector, therefore AI use is important to prevent the deaths of health workers because of this pandemic.

Abstract

Background: Age may be estimated using tooth eruption sequence and/or calcification stage. Because many factors may affect the time of eruption, the tooth calcification stage shows higher accuracy than the time of tooth eruption. Demirjian’s and Willems’ methods have been most commonly used for dental age estimation. Both Willems and Demirjian use the calcification stage as an indicator. Studies comparing these methods have shown varied results, as they have been performed on different populations. Purpose: This paper aims to analyse the estimation of children's age based on dentition via panoramic radiography in Surabaya, Indonesia. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using a purposive sampling method. One hundred digital panoramic radiographs of children between 6 and 15 years that match the inclusion criteria from the Airlangga University dental hospital in Surabaya, Indonesia were evaluated. One researcher analysed estimated dental age (EDA) three times in a one-week time-lapse using Demirjian’s and Willems’ methods. Statistical analysis was carried out using a Paired t-test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test. EDA was calculated using both Demirjian’s and Willems’ methods. Results: The mean chronological age (CA) was 10.57 ± 2.70 for males and 10.73 ± 2.84 for females. The mean difference between CA and EDA using the Demirjian and Willems methods was -0.57 ± 1.17 and 0.10 ± 0.96 for males and 0.58 ± 1.40 and 0.44 ± 0.94 for females. Conclusion: The results suggest that Willems’ method is more precise than Demirjian’s method in males and females and more suitable for children in Surabaya, Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Informed consent is an agreement between the doctor/the provider of medical services and the patient/the recipient of medical services. This relationship between these parties has changed from a paternalistic to a contractual relationship due to technological shifts. Doctors are obliged to notify the patient of all the risks and benefits of a procedure while respecting their autonomy by not intervening the decision-making process. This article will look at three government and academic hospitals in Surabaya, as informed consent has to be practiced in all medical settings. Purpose: This study aims to review the role of informed consent according to Law Number 29, 2004. Review: This study aims to discuss the characteristics of informed consent under Law Number 29, 2004, because there are too few articles addressing this issue. It also explains the roles of the patient and the doctor/dentist in informed consent according to this piece of legislation. Conclusion: According to Article 184, informed consent provides vital evidence that can be used to hold doctors and dentists legally accountable because it contains information about standard operating procedures (SOPs) that medical professionals are legally required to follow. Guidelines for informed consent are given in Law Number 29, 2004, Article 45, paragraph 2.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Tooth extraction is the process of removing teeth from the alveolus. It will leave a mark on the socket and surrounding soft tissue. One of the cells that plays an important role in the wound healing process after tooth extraction is fibroblasts. When an injury occurs, some blood vessels are damaged; therefore, new blood vessels need to form. Purple leaves extract could be an alternative treatment for wound healing after tooth extraction as it contains flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, steroids, and tannins. Purpose: The study aimed to analyze the role of purple leaves extract on the increase in fibroblasts and blood vessels in the socket after tooth extraction in Wistar rats. Methods: The method used was a laboratory experiment with a post-test-only control group design. The samples used were 24 rats divided into two groups: the control group, which was given aquadest, and the treatment group, which was given 1.5 mL of purple leaves extract with 10% concentration by sondage. Tissue preparations were used to count fibroblasts, and blood vessels were counted and observed on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th days. Results: Statistical tests showed a significant difference in the number of fibroblasts and blood vessels between the control and treatment groups on days 3, 5, and 7. Conclusion: Purple leaves extract could increase the number of fibroblasts and blood vessels in the tooth socket after tooth extraction of Wistar rats.

Abstract

Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a clonal bone marrow stem cell disorder associated with a characteristic chromosomal translocation called the Philadelphia chromosome which caused a proliferation of mature granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils) and their precursors, increasing unregulated growth of predominantly myeloid cells in the bone marrow and its accumulation in the blood. As myeloproliferative disease, Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia or CML is a malignancy of the sixth-highest, reaching 15% of all blood malignancies in adults with an incidence of 1.1 per 100,000 population (Ugroseno, 2012). The CML diagnosis is made based on a presence of Philadelphia chromosome due to the existence of a reciprocal translocation of chromosomes 9 and chromosome 22 t (9.22), and raises the fusion of Break Cluster Region (BCR) gene of chromosome 22 on band q11 by Abelson Murine Leukemia (ABL). The fused BCR-ABL gene has BCR sequences of different length, so it produces a protein that has a different molecular weight. Despite having different length of BCR sequences, however, the length of fuses ABL gene sequence is constant. Associated with this different BCR sequence length are the three variations of the BCR-ABL gene fusion. The first variation is a Major Break Cluster (M-BCR), the BCR gene break is found in exon 2 in e13-E14 region. This type of CML is the fusion of BCR exon b2 or b3 to ABL exon a2, forming two major transcripts of the b2a2 or b3a2, which has a protein product with 210 kD weight or referred to as p210. The second variation is Minor BCR (m-BCR), which has e1a2 fusion. CML with BCR-ABL gene fusion of this type has a protein product with a molecular weight of 190 kDa or called p190. The third variation is micro-BCR (m-BCR), with BCR gene break between exons E19 and e20b that form mRNA transcripts e19a2, with BCR-ABL protein P230. This fused gene can be detected with qualitative multiplex PCR.
